  • Since then I have realized that the brown grains on the ground were not wheat but rice. After rice is harvested it is brown. There are 2 husks. The first husk is inedible and must be removed, like a peanut shell. When the second layer is kept intact it is called brown rice. Like the thin brown middle part over the peanut. It's when they take off both husks they are left with white rice, which is the staple carbohydrate for a lot of Asia. A very simple machine removes the husks.
