Some trivia. It's made by a Finnish company Bloodhouse, now part of Housemarque. NOT Swedish demo coders as infesticon said.
Trivia part 2. The Princess, who the Professor kidnapped, is called Voi Levi as you see in the beginning. Voilevi (voi = butter, levi is short for levite, which means spread) was a brand name of margarine in Finland, until the EU forbid using the word butter in margarine/spread brand names and it became KevytLevi (light margarine/spread)
One of my favorites, had to find it via your channel though, for some reason it didn't feature your last 3 videos under my Subscriptions videos, You Tube gets crapper by the minute.
I agree best Asteroids rip-off ever, love the music too.
Interestingly I noticed that the sound FX of the siren you hear from time to time is the same classic siren sound known for its inclusion in Goldeneye 64.
This was a great asteroids clone. I always remember my mates mouths wide open when the tunnel bit came on cos back in the day that bonus stage looked absolutely amazing especially on a little old A500...
@laffer35 I'm not a fan of time limits myself, but in this case, it does actually add to the frantic nature of the game. It's also not so bad as it doesn't end the game when the counter reaches zero... it just gets harder.
Do you think you might give Super Stardust HD a try on the PSN and see what kind of graphical spit polish they put on this game? I'd be interested in seeing if it plays as well as this or if it's just a lot of smoke and mirrors.
Videos like this remind me why I used to have such intense love for the Amiga. By the time I finally got one, the OCS was nearing the end of its life span, and the others never really caught on here (US). To be honest, I was the only person I knew growing up who had one. Still, I've got lots of great memories playing games like this on my Amiga and C64. At least, until I met my greatest love (the PC-Engine) ;) Keep making great vids!
Why Ambassador with these Ferrero Rocher worth of games you are spoiling us :D
Yet again this game kicks arse, the best Asteroids clone (apart from Spheres of Chaos/Minestorm :) but still really bloody hard, insanely hard at times. Love the music, pity the CD32 music is totally different, and not as good :S also...
Super Stardust was made by sweedish demo coders not team 17, Team 17 did release it though. Christ team 17 in house coders couldn't even get thier street fighter rip off to run at a nice speed(well not until the cd3d version,,,). Skidmarks was nothing to do with team 17. And you have to survive 6 levelsto get the tunnel, and you think the aga version is nasty you should the original mail order 500 version!! Harder than a coffin nail.
Hey Steve - sub'd a while back and finally posting a comment. Love watching your vid's. Nice to see all the game reviews and your fun, common sense approach. Loved my Amiga 500 many years ago too.

Oh how we laughed at Voi Levi ;)

@pundewhee I didn't know either of those facts. Thanks :D

I should've watched this before the HD PS3 remake video you posted. This is a spectacular Asteroids alternative, though.

Oh yeah Steve put all ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ's in on the Password for a shit load of lives, it's the only way I've been able to complete it.

Never did play this on my Amiga. The players ship looks a bit too big!
Great vid Steve =)

Guess you didn't reach it then?

The female voice acting is very similar to two other MS-DOS shmups: Tyrian and Tubular Worlds :)

Now this title had my heart beating a little faster. I think this is an AGA enabled game right? I didn't think it worked on a regular A500.
It plays a lot like a VGA-MS-DOS game I played a lot back in the day. Oh.... hey it is! Very similar.
markvergeer 1 year ago
@markvergeer There is a regular 500 version of this game, but this is the AGA version.
SteveBenway 1 year ago
@SteveBenway Hey thanks. If I come across a copy and when I get my A500's 3.5" drive working again I'll be sure to try it out.
markvergeer 1 year ago
@SteveBenway I'm pretty sure there isn't an OCS/ECS version of this game. Maybe you're talking about the first Stardust title?
pintcat1 5 months ago
Aww...you didn't get to the bonus level. :(
Looks like a pretty fun game, though! :D

@ShinmaRyuu This already looks HD to me as it is probably because it's HD for the AMIGA being AGA.
wrestletube1 1 year ago
@wrestletube1 This isn't HD. AGA was very much standard definition.
SteveBenway 1 year ago
@ShinmaRyuu I've had the PS3 version since it came out, and have been planning on putting up vids back to back ever since :)

@infesticon Heh, yup, I realised after posting that I'd got my facts wrong. It's coded by Bloodhouse, and Skidmarks was Acid Software. Doh!
I'll add some annotations when I'm not half asleep :)

Oh if you can download disks for you amiga Amiga power had a demo with just the tunnel for the 500. But nice to see an upload of that:)
infesticon 1 year ago
@infesticon I might have the original coverdisk here. I have hundreds of them sitting around. I'll see what I can find :)

@infesticon Do you mean Super Stardust has a tunnel after the 6 sections that make uo each level?
