@jakensine Its a good question. (1) If doctors are paid only if a patient visits you have max incentive to overtreat the wealthy/insured patients and not the poor/uninsured. Docs should be salaried.(2) health care's negative utility of consumption (you are not better off consuming more) so market theory does not apply (3) info gap/incentives. A $20 x-ray is better for your pocket but the hospital gets $800 for MRI and can better pay off its investment.
Don't kid yourself that there are no lines in the US system. All those at home who lost their job and their health care are in line at home. No one is counting them. In Canada they are not forgotten and they don't go to the US. Its a myth. Exceptions do not make the rule.
On the same basis you should be calling for abandonment of the police service and the fire dept (on the grounds that its your right not to fund putting other peoples home fires and and road accidents etc). Most people like it as it is. And you'll like health care when it comes so much cheaper too.
i have separate videos up concerning private security forces (police) and private fire departments so, yes, i oppose them as well. if 50million americans don't have healthcare that equals out 2 about 15% of the population uncovered. of that population, 80% either make more than $53K in annual salary (in other words they are presumably not jobless and should be able to afford health care) OR are already eleigible for govt health care services. that leaves 20% of 15% which leaves about 3% ...
who have legitimately no means and no access. 3% of the population is not beyond the reach of private charity hospitals and LOCAL government enitities for the indigent etc. why extend the poor healthcare that the govt now gives to poor, seniors and children called medicaid/ medicare/ chips to the rest of the country?
@hauskalainen The important question that we need to ask relentlessly is whether a particular function of government is efficient. Private security forces just might be, but they aren't in all cases. Case in point: Private Investigators. That said, we need to always ask: "Can private enterprise do this better?"
Totally screwed logic. You ARE paying for all those who get emergency treatment (it's in your medical bills). Health care is not free in Canada,,its paid in taxes... but US health care creams much more money for much less care!
ok we get your point scott, make a video response or something already or post one of your own as a response. i say the 'we can't' attitude is yours. 'we can't' trust the market 'we can't' find soluttions w/o depending on government we cant fix this problem on our own. that is the we can't attitude i see. of course the real problem with the system now is TOO MUCH govt now we want to add more. i've said my piece, you've said yours and this guy has said his. make a vid for additional commentary
Michael Moore went to Cuba I think it was, and was shown their fancy hospital. Even though they said it was the "average hospital" it was later shown an actual doctor from Cuba sent out pictures of the average person's hospital and turns out it was run-down and low-quality like in most other places with similar health care. Either the quality gets lowered or really long waiting lines get put into play, which causes people to die anyways. So clearly socialized medicine is not the answer

Where are Canadians gonna go for healthcare in emergencies if we switch to a single-payer system?
You must realize that many of them come to the US for health care in emergencies so that they avoid the waiting lines.
Why would we wanna switch to their system? All that'll do is create long waiting lines for health care.

Rationing of health care causeing long waiting lines and causing many people to lose their lives...no thanks.
