I life in Norway, and weve been spreading the wealth around for several decades, but unlike what many Republicans belief it didnt made mainstreet poorer, on the contrary, it made everybody richer. In my own family weve both blue and white collar workers, as well as a multi millionaire. As a grandmother of 3 young children I find it reassuring that all my grandchildren has the very same right to free healthcare, the same education and the same social benefits.
Im sick and tired of John McCain calling Obama a socialist and implying that Europe is socialistic. Our shops are full of luxury items that people actually can afford to buy, even in these financial troubled days. All my children are travelling abroad for their holidays at least once a year. How many blue collar Americans can do that? John McCain is deliberately lying about Europe in the hope to scare ignorant voters.
I'm sick and tired of people bashing Socialism. Socialism is what the New Deal was founded on! Are people THAT stupid? No one thinks the New Deal destroyed the U.S. (and anyone who does doesn't know history).
Even in rich Norway you can find some less fortunate people, eventhough its the government intention to eliminate poverty. But our poor people are rich in comparission with the American poors. We do read foreign newspapers you know, and we do watch CNN, and we do watch 60 minutes and other documentaries. And yes, we hear John McCain/Palin speeches and we dont like the way he speeks about USA friends and allies. I say: thanks, but no thanks to friendship á la John McCain.
I agree, one need to create jobs for the unemployed. Lots of people seems to forget that welfare, and or unemployment benefits cost money too. The only way to save money is to let people die of starvation, and that is no option.
When will these *Joe the Plummer Republicans* realize that they're being screwed by the very people they're voting for. Republicans promise less government spending and they not only spend more than the Democrats, they run up the deficit, print more money, and lower the standard of living for everyone but the top 2 percent. McCain is trying to make the argument that Dems will raise taxes, but Repubs will devalue your dollar and devalue everything else you own!
its not about a better tomorrow for the country or for their neighbor.
Its all about a dream that they have to support the rich because someday, just maybe they can be up there too
Maybe joe wishes so hard that he can make over 250k a year that he thinks one of the things standing in his way is taxes
He believes with all his heart that if he works hard enough he can get anything he wants and its only the democrats keeping his hard work from paying off
its like how poor white southeners where the biggest proponents for slavery during the pre-civil war era when it was economically unbenafically for them to be so because they couldn't get jobs on plantations.
They put slaves down because they thought one day they could be like the rich and powerful plantation owners who where the super rich yet were a minority like the super rich today.
Read Tim Wise's articles on why poor whites vote against their interests, its insane that joe the fantasist will vote against a tax cut today because he is more worried about possible tax rises he will have to pay IF he makes more money.
The only analogy i can think of is deciding where to buy gas before learning to drive.
Since Reagan, Republicans have pursued tax plans that have transferred wealth from the middle class to the wealthiest, and done it w/debt. We now have the most wealth inequality since the early 1930s. $600B/yr, represents $8,000/household/yr ave since 1979, or $232,000 ave per household redistributed to the top 1%.
McCain wants to make the Bush tax cuts, that have accelerated the transfer of wealth, permanent. Hmm. I wonder who's backing him, and where this Leftist BS is coming from.
You know, it is amusing that no matter what independent analysis you use, Obama's idea, which is still miles from Canada, is always more cost effective.
THIS is a talking point that needs to make the rounds. The redistribution of wealth is already happening, and chances are that wealth is being taken away from YOU!
it's a hollow argument to point out the flaws of the other side instead of addressing the issue.

Yes, I imagine just about everyone wants socialism to a degree. I frankly think the government should do more than most Americans think it should.

What's wrong with all you people - socialism is EVIL - (unless it's socialism for the wealthy, of course)

I've never seen Gergen so fired up as he has been this election.
He and Bob Schneider are perhaps two of the most reliable analysists.
