I need a Notebook/laptop for school and leisure.

But i have no interest in Games, But i want to spend about $800 Australian max

All i want on it is, Internet, Usb slots, cd slot (plays movies), MSN, and word.

Thats really all i need...

+Good Display (not glare)

+very light for 17"

-LAN Card is piece of shit... never got it to work with XP, Vista and 7 !

-It is LOUD! The fan never stops and it is like a space ship loud! My 7 years old Dell d600 is leiser!

-AC Adapter has some strange Buzz noise (it is "normal" )

My opinion... go for something else! If u are student your collegs will hate u couse of the noise :D

The answer is it is good and it supports all games BUT with average/low graphics details.

You can play everything but low performance.Good anyway!

I use both, and I can tell you that Vista has poor resource management. You're just trying to defend your shitty purchase. Vista is considered to be a failure by the public. Yet, some people insist on defending the horrid thing. Why do you think that Win7 as a beta is on par with XP in regards to resource management? M$ knows that they messed up with Vista.

Yeah, you can just "tell" that Vista has poor resource management. There's nothing more to it than that. You base your entire argument on the assumption that I am a Vista user, even though I'm not. Vista being considered a failure by the "public" doesn't mean anything besides how easily persuaded they are. You're confusing hardware efficiency with hardware requirements. XP has lower requirements than Vista, but that doesn't mean it manages hardware better than Vista does.

agreed. Just because vista needs more requirements it doesnt mean that xp manages hardware better. Vista just has more programs to open, and it has Aero to open unless u disable it. The reviewers say it sucks, so it must suck so the public spread it out and people are then thinking vista sucks.

I don't care how much resources an OS needs to run, but rather how well it can utilize those resources. In the case of Vista, the outcome is very poor. What makes you such a pro I might ask? See, all you're doing is making assumptions. I said I'm not a Vista user. Meaning the computer I own and use does not run it. Meaning I can't just be defending my 'shitty purchase'. You hear that and think that because I'm not a Vista user, my opinion doesn't count because apparently I haven't used Vista enough to know about it. Even though I use Vista all the time and only don't use it at home because my computer is particularly lower performance, and couldn't handle Vista as well as XP.

Vista was only messed up in the beginning. The updates on Vista has made it usable and i would say just as good as XP. I noticed that with vista using 4 GB's of RAM and XP using the same amount with both using Dual core 2.0 GHZ, XP opens things just hair bit faster but Vista does seem to have a sleeker design but the speed is practically comparable. it's be making 2 guys run and 1 gets 5.43 and the other get 5.44 barely any difference. Vista is more compatible with the modern things too.

i couldnt agree with you more gally .. i used to have vista about 2 weeks after it ame out vista ULT to be exact and i went crazy .. i got rid of it and got XP again .. and about 2 months ago i tryed vista again with the updates .. and i find it verry usable =] ...

though i mess stress that no 1 should go out and buy vista yet .. wait for windows 7 as i can conferm that it is 2 times better then vista and XP .. im using it rite now =]

My dual core amd 2000 4 gig running ultimate 64 takes a full 14 minutes to fully boot. By that I mean the full release of the hard drive and processor. Very annoying

Open performance monitor as soon as you can and expand the drive tab. you will see background services continuing to load and your sfcache populating for a long time.

When your screen comes up it is not fully booted. Try the instructions I gave the last guy and see when your hard drive and processor are fully released from the booting process. Geeze is this your first computer?

Make sure performance monitor is open and document when your processor and hard drive are fully released from the boot process. It will be a two part video.
