OMFG, Am I the only one who remembers the greatest add on for the genesis?? For a mere 9.95 or so a month I paid my cable company for the sega channel. It provied me a 32X looking adapter that I hooked to my cable and my sega and I got streaming game feeds. This ruled and I had it for a few years. All the new titles would be on there with demo versions as well as full length games and plenty of them. Sega Tv ruled all.

the master system was by no means a master. Decent system with decent games, but nowhere near NES. But in Europe, the master system was more popular than the NES. It also depends on where people live, when some people liked sega more or vice versa. If u want arcade games, screw snes, nes genesis and master system. Go Neo-Geo!! That was the Genesis/Mega Drive over the NES, not the Masters System. You're also forgetting that the Genesis was STILL losing to the NES until the bundled it with Sonic, and then the SNES came out and the Genesis had less than half the market. NES had lockout chips to prevent game developers from making shitty games like on the Atari 2600, meaning companies had to get the Nintendo seal of approval to make games, ensuring quality. Physically, the NES was a different system than the Japanese Famicon, so it couldn't actually play those games, but it could play PAL format games. Also; Sega was the one cutting out RPG games, not Nintendo. Segas president said RPG's wouldn't sell well in America, so very few got released on both.

Of course there's shovelware on the NES, but look at all the classic; Zelda, Mario, Contra, Castlevania 1 and 3, the Masters System had nothing compared to the NES. I'm not really an 8-bit gamer, by the way, I just know the NES has more, better games than the MS. The SNES has one of the biggest RPG libraries ever, so don't even go complaining about that. You're forgetting all the FF's, Secret of Mana, Chrono Trigger, Mother 2, SMRPG, Illusion of Gaia, Breath of fire, the list goes on.

I know plenty about the Gensis/MS, and while fact has it that the NES had more better games than the MS, I do agree that Gensis vs SNES is a good differentiation. I prefer the SNES, because the sound is better and there's more colors, but I also happen to prefer the games released on the SNES. My first console was the NES but I soon learned a good lesson about keeping electronics and milk apart. :P If it wasn't for that though, I would not have gotten the Genesis and wouldn't have played my two favorites games, Sonic and Street Fighter Turbo. The system changes were not all cosmetic. The Genesis 1 has crisper audio than the later model revisions. The Genesis 2 and 3 had stereo support in the back and the Genesis 1 could only get stereo through the headphone jack in the front.

ah yes. they werent really successful outside of Japan. the Neo Geo AES was somewhat successful, and very popular, but the fact that it was $650 and $200 per game killed its chance against the Genesis or SNES. And the Mega Drive outdid the turbografx-16 immediately in Europe (and even beat out the SNES there), and the Genesis killed the Turbografx-16 in the US right from the start. only in Japan did the PC engine (Japanese name for the Turbografx) beat the Mega drive, but lost out to the SNES
