  • I think that Ruth Buzzi is one of the funniest people ever! I just watched some interview clips of her and jo anne about laugh-in. So great! She said she took three of doors from the joke wall after the last show. Good for you Ruthie! Thanks for being so wonderful :)

  • LMFAO @ 3:40-3:48

  • Thank you Ruthie..for sharing this via twitter..I follow you and you follow me..I think you are just one of the greats!!!!!!!!!

When I think comedy , I think of you....Your friend and fan, Jay.. @ thevegasidea

  • I never thought I'd get to sing operatically with such a legend! I had to make myself go off key to make it funny for the kids watching Sesame Street...but she was surprised I could hit some of the notes in this little segment!

  • @RuthBuzzi1 Hello Ruth Buzzi, my name is Patrick Gaddis. I'm almost 16 years old, but I still love Sesame Street. I remember watching it when you were in it. You always cracked me up. I really miss seeing you as Ruthie. Have you ever considered going back? Also, I hope you don't mind, but I've started writing stories for Sesame Street, and in one of my stories, Maria says that you moved to New Jersey. I also included Around The Corner and Finders Keepers is a Laundry Detergent Store now.

  • @RuthBuzzi1 This was my first exposure to real operatic singing.I was sick home from high school and turned into sesamie street. I had never heard anything so beautiful. I ended up going to music school and although I never became an operatic super star, classical singing is still my passion. The first time I met Ms Horne, I recounted this story to her. Thank you for making this such a great memory for me. I know I wouldn't know do what I do if it wasn't for this sketch.

  • Ruthie, I think those braids are taller than you are. PS a couple of FABULOUS voices!

  • @weightfeather1 That's true, but I was thinking of another.

  • Ruthie's got quite a range on her.

  • "That goes double for me!"

  • another fan says hi, my 29 month old son and i listen to this once a week, and we try to sing along, thank you for sharing this wonderful video.

  • which came first, this or madiline kahn's version? I really love them both, my 2 year old listens to both at least once a week.

  • @SholomGootzeit The Madeline Kahn version was first (about 1977); this version (with Ruthie and Marilyn Horne) was from the mid-late 1990s

  • I remember her on sesame street as ruthie when I watched it from 1993-1994

    memories

  • Well, she did a little better than Grover....accent on "a little". :)

  • I should say "we" instead of "they" - - - we will have been married 31 years this December.

  • Ruth Buzzi has a great page on Face Book where you can see her videos and lots of great work from the 60s 70s 80s and 90s...and some from the new century, too. She's alive and a love and well and married, with a wonderful life in Texas where they own a farm near Fort Worth.

  • This is an amazing piece of video. Buzzi sings note for note with one of the greatest operatic voices in the world, and had to deliberately go off key to make it funny...I know, because I was there. Ruthie and I have been married for more than 30 years. Thought you'd find that interesting...kp

  • Really? I've admired her since Laugh-In was on when I was very, very young. Please say hi from a fan.

  • @SSDILLOW She was in my store today at Tom THumb and I LOVE her!! She is ver down to earth no Phoniness about her!!

I keep on forgetting to tell her I love her in "Lost Saucer" with Jim Neighbors!!

  • @SSDILLOW That *is* interesting. From someone who watched this as a child, she has always been so funny and taught me so much as a kid. Really. <3

  • @SSDILLOW Did you meet on a park bench? Seriously, stay clear of her purse.

  • I remember seeing the one with Madeline Kahn when I was very very young. I saw this one when I was in high school. This one had more effect on me because of the sheet beauty and flexibility of Ms Horne's voice. In fact...this very episode was the first time I had ever heard of Ms Horne and one of the reasons why I decided to train as a classical singer.

  • i remember this.... who the hell is ruth buzzi

  • Laugh In

  • Way to show your ignorance. Both in knowledge of women comedians from our past, and in your choice of judgemental words.

  • I love this! Totally ridiculous but it shows that opera can be fun! Love Marilyn Horne, one of my favourite mezzo sopranos!

  • Marilyn Horne was actually quite pretty as a young woman. She performed the first recorded version of the Christmas song "Angels We Have Heard on High" I had ever heard. Also, for trivia's sake, does anyone know in what movie musical she dubbed someone's singing voice before becoming an opera singer? This is a trivia question.

  • Although Marilyn Horne is my very favorite Soprano, I have to say the Madeline Kahn and Grover version has to get the points here... :-)

  • I agree. This is no where near as good as Madeline Kahn and Grover.

  • Absolutely! Madeline Kahn' and Grover's version is a real gem!

  • I think Marilyn Horne is a mezzo :)

  • She's a mezzo-soprano.

  • Madeline Kahns and Grovers version is cuter ;)

  • "That's not the song."

Actually, Marilyn, according to all sources, the song is indeed called "Sing After Me".

  • We need change!

  • LOL!!!! this is so so funny!!!!

  • LOOOOOOOOOVE this!!!!!! thanks!

  • Y'know Ruth would have a great voice if she was being serious. I heard it in her fiddle diddle dee right when she the highest note. She just needs to not have vibrato just as she hits the note. But I have a feeling she knows that.

  • My Hero "Jackie" Marilyn Horne! She can do anything!

  • this is one of my favorite songs from sesame street....and one of my favorite opera singers...wow what a combo, i feel lucky...and i enjoyed this...sesame isn't the same anymore (then again i'm 18 now) ruth was one of my favorite people...i love the fiddle diddle dees this shows how amazing marilyn is. (ornamentation on sesame street who'd have thunk it lol)

  • I love the Buzzi.

  • I luv it! Pick a pickled pepper! Be my echo!

Good entertainment and hilarious. That is what I call this "Sing with an attitude". It is fun.

  • this was when Sesame Street was Sesame street. it really rocks

  • I so remember this this rocks. Ruthie is so cute, funny and loverble so is Ruth Buzzi who plays her. I like it when she says that goes double for me. And I like Marylin Horne says Like I said grwat costume. I think Ruthie sounds like Carol Channing and Katherine Jenkins.

  • "That goes double for me!"

  • Does anybody have a SS clip with the song: Down Below the Street by that singing A Capella group?

  • Like I said... great costume."

Surely that wasn't the only thing Marilyn found complimentary about Ruthie's performance.

  • I wish Marylin Horne was my singing teacher. I wanna hire her one day she is so ace. Ruthie well she is ace. Everytime I see people singing oprea like Katherine Jenkins I think of Marylin and Ruthie dressed up in oprea outfits. Ruthie rules.

  • this is not a bad version, but i still think the version with grover and madeline kahn is the best

    thanks for posting this though!

  • I love Ruthie. She is so funny. I like it when she goes over the top. Has anyone got the videos with Ruthie called cooking by the numbers with chef Ruthie.

  • I love this song as a child me and my sister used to sing this song as an echo all the time

  • Gotta love Horne's coloratura with the trill.

  • that's awesome. Ruth Buzzi sounds like a cross between the Cowardly Lion and Carol Channing!

  • Madiline Kahn, she was soo much better than anything else they did with the song

  • That is so cute!! as well as "C" is for cookie with her! She is such a great person.

  • ahh you mean Madeline Kahn, lol

  • I love that song

  • I love the Buzzi.

  • who doesnt
