  • @dasvadder12 Thanks SO much for the info about Gillan's voice and tonsillectomy. Have noticed changes in his voice in '80s and '90s - some great; some pretty bad. Thought for a while that he had "lost" it (as a lot of people thought and wrote him off), but then you hear 2000s "One Eye to Morroco." Again, THANKS!

  • Haven't heard this for years...Awesome.

  • aaaaaaaaaaaaaa gran hpta, mi papa en accion

  • is that bernie torme

  • @vanhalen515084

    Indeed he is !!!!!!!!!

Bernie Torme playing his balls off !

  • ian gillan is a gifted man. holy molly!

  • @Gillanfan89 That makes since. Haven't listened to Toolbox yet. But someone has put several songs and a video he made with the Greek singer (1993), and he sounds great - "Getaway," "I Think I Know." Even has the scream back - which I've never thought of as a scream since he has/had vibratto, etc., with it.

  • I realize Accidentally on Purpose was recorded in 1988 when Gillan's voice was still good. At some point he had inflamed, infected tonsils removed - along with the nodules, that supposedly improved his voice - anybody know when? German doctor found this in '80s, I think. His voice still gives me chills - and other feelings!

  • @Lil1943

That could've happened in the late 80's early 90's. Listen to his solo album Toolbox from 1991, you wil be surprised with his range, after poor 80's coughing

  • @Lil1943 His tonsils got infectet in 1982, but he got them out in 1985.That's why he had problem with his voice in the 80's and early 90's. The Rockpalast-concert from 85 was a few days before his tonsils got out.But Gillan had also good days in the 80's. In 1987 his voice was good.

  • Love the way he widens his right eye at 4:29. His voice still good here, and later songs he's written prove he still has his voice, just having to use it differently now. When I first heard the "older" Gillan sing, I was appalled, too. (I discovered him only this year lol.) But the recordings have grown on me. I find myself listening to the less "rocking" music - Accidentally on Pupose, Road to Morocco, and others. His live singing does leave a lot to be desired.

  • @gillanfan Man when I,m seeing doin this song i remember the time you know. Gillan was great and i was fortunate to see him in Arnhem with Black Sabbath and still i remember his voice , so strong better thab ever it was amazing. But that,s what i mean it,sso sad to see him these day,s. Still touring day after day . Maybe he needed rest and than goes another way. It,s such a loss . Man i was glad to see him with Sabbath and Purple and i assure you he WAS the man together with Blackmore.

  • @gillanfan. It,s painfull to see him trying to do these old songs. Even Smoke on the water.

But they still touring and a lot off people come to see the legend.

Morse is good but NO Blackmore. I guess Gillan can better do what Plant and Blackmore do , other music, not pretending he,s still young.

Just doin things he like with another genre off musis I think the man still got a great voice but his range is short limmited now and he seems to refuse his limitations and thats, painfull to see

  • @DonvanderDeijl

    Exactly

  • @gillanfan yes i see him doin some old Gillan songs in the 90,s and it wasn,t bad, not that good as in the early days but good enough. But when i see him and hear TV in Paris and it was NOT good isaw them twice in Rotterdam Ahoy and the first concert was great, the second was a blur (Gillan had a cold) When i saw Gillan in teh second concerto in the royal Albert he was good enough, not that he has the power but lets face it the man was not in his 20,s When i saw them on live aid i was horrified.

  • @DonvanderDeijl

Oh, you saw them on that new Live 8 (aid or whatever). I know i saw the footage Gillan could barely sing. Highway Star was just awful

  • Gillan at his peak , great song, guitar so so not that good . It,s such a damn shame Gillan lost his voice after his period in Black Sabbath. But liten doin him Heaven and Hell and you know who was the greatest singer that time.

These day,s i,m sorry to say but his voice is over and done. Yes that,s the truth and it,s hard to hear

  • @DonvanderDeijl

Yeah i agree, the last time when he could pulled it off was during his solo career at the beginning of the 90's, he was in pretty good shape back then, and unfortunately it was the last time !

  • SUPER

  • Great stuff. Thanks for posting.

  • I have this on c-kasette and i'm listen that very much. Gillan is Mr Universe.. best song ever, maybe. Thanks for uploafing this massive tune..

    Cheers! =)

  • @nikama75

    No problem, you're welcome

  • I remember hearing this the first time on (The old) Friday night rock show (Tommy Vance?)...fantastic..Gillan was the man. all who came afterwards owe him. Rob Halford has a great rock voice, but in a different way. great find, thank you!

  • Well that was nice...now where the fuck is part 2?

  • Saw Coverdale(poser in my view)/Bolin DP,Rainbow(no encore,Blackmore a statue,Dio n' Powell pure magic,RIP) and Gillian who is one of the few singers lve seen that can deliver live and one of the best frontmen, the 70's was a great time for brit rock, what happend?

  • @196020111

I'm glad you like it, and i'm glad you left a comment, but please do be careful when you type Ian's last name.

it's GILLAN not Gillian... Many fans get upset even Ian

  • @Gillanfan89 Ian makes light of it in the song MTV (bonus track on Rapture tin box edition).

    Regards. David.

  • One of the most overlooked & underrated singers/bands ever.

  • @bobs2cool4u Indeed! Some music critics seem to think the band "Gillan" was just a small stop gap in the history of his career but they were a great outfit (intelligent hard rock) and my fave one of the Purple spin-offs.

  • GREAT!

  • Who are the musicians?

  • @The7thsonof7thson

    Bernie Torme: Guitar

    John McCoy: Bass

    Colin Towns: Keyboards

    Mick Underwood: Drums

  • A M A Z I N G!

  • Was that Mick Underwood on drums?

  • @kragberay

Yes it was, but you can't see him very clearly on this video

  • THANKS FOR THE AWESOME VIDEO!

  • Such a great band. Bernie Torme on guitar and Ian Gillan at the top of his game. I saw this band so many times back in the 70s - they were just brilliant.

  • Massive tune! All album is perfecto!!

  • Where the hell did this footage come from. At last a rare glimpse of just what Bernie Torme was all about back then in his prime. The perfect fusion of Punk, Blues and Rock. Oh yeah and the rest of the band, Gillan, Underwood, Towns and McCoy were legends as well. Thanks for this.

  • Best rock and roll singer.

  • Now I'm here, don't keep me waiting. The best solo Gillan album ever. Agreed?

  • Very cool! Thanks for posting!

  • this takes me back to the Liverpool empire i think he played there every year 1980 -1985 two -three nighters always packed to the rafters . Great !!

  • @scipfish I saw Gillan at the Empire to. Great watching McCoy flying round the stage in a harness playing his guitar. I got his and Gillian's autographs after the concert.

  • This reminds me of why I loved Gillan. He had an incredible voice.

  • john mccoy on bass

  • I love it! :D Thank you!

Gillan was so sexy in the seventies! :P

  • Superb, Seen Gillan play at the playhouse in Edinburgh in 82 i think, the backing group was spyder

  • @MrJconnolly1916 Lucky you. I have the Glasgow Apollo cd from '82 which is great. Gers was a fine replacement after Torme left.

    (David).

  • Bernie Torme...............just so fucking good.

  • An all-time great, Colin Towns is a great writer and musician, and the guitar is amazing! Bernie Torme rules!

  • Probably at his finest?

  • no, rob is on the bass

  • Comment removed

  • I love that song

  • Gillan were a class act and this is a class song from a class album. Didn't realise they did a promo vid for this track. Trust their old record company Acrobat Records to go bust just as they were hitting the big time with the Mr Universe album. It would have no doubt went to the top instead of dissappearing out the charts. Cheers for posting.

  • WOW this is GREAT man!!! thanks for posting!

  • Epic song! This is the first time I hear Gillan solo. This song made the hair on my testicles stand on end. By the middle of the video, my fist was thrust into the air, pleading to the Gods of Rock to bring back such awesome music as this, instead of the shit that fills FM airwaves now.

  • This is like Pink Floyd from the beginning to hair metal acid on steroids throughout, this song kicks the ass of the universe !

  • A million years of procreating ?, damn thats one horny bastard. Ok this song really picks up at 2:22 !

  • I saw Gillan at the Marquee clube in 1978, they blew me away !, brill band !!!

  • @thebikesblue Whit Ritchie Blackmore ???

  • still rocking!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • That lyrics are so great!!!!!!

  • I wonder what happened to Bernie torme this was the best of Gillans line ups

  • Bernie and John are back together in a Mega rocking power trio called GMT (Guy, McCoy, Torme) There are a few clips of them on youtube. Check them out. They will blow you away.

  • the guitar player is not bad.

  • The guitar player Bernie Torme' ..used to play in Punk Rock bands before he joined Gillan.

  • it looked like Rob Halford came back in time and was playing bass.

  • Great song, great band, extraordinary vocalist:)

  • soooo cool, thx for posting!! :)

  • This whole CD is greatl Love Ian better with his own group instead of Deep Purple. Toolbox is excellent.

  • Don't forget the book :-)

  • My apologies..at 3:15 Colin Towns is hitting the cymbals with drumsticks..confused me lol.

  • THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART!

  • CLASSIC OF BRITISH METAL

  • What has rob halford got to do with it ???

    Bernie Torme was on guitar....

  • Who was the drummer ?

  • @theyorkshirewhites : Mick Underwood on drums

  • @Gillanfan89 he's referring to the bass guitar player, John McCoy.

  • And a great axe man at that

  • @Gillanfan89 I think what he meant to say is that is how Rob looks nowadays, ah what the heck do i know

  • @NEZMARQ I think you wonder about the bass player, that is John McCoy. Not Rob Halford.

  • @NEZMARQ

    It isnt him!!!!
