Having your own currency, issuing passports, signing treaties, own military, etc. results in enough evidence to claim independence. International law does not require recognition by another in order to claim independence. Having your own currency, issuing passports, signing treaties, own military, etc. results in enough evidence to claim independence. Many counties accepted in the UN today have less credentials than Tibet. The US has passed several resolutions over the years describing Tibet as an occupied country, What do you think that means?

To be clear, International Law dictates that recognition of another is not necessary in order to claim independence. That's the law! Yes, often it's not fair but that's doesn't mean you simply give up. We are trying to set an example, to achieve our goals in a non-violent manner. If this does not work before the Dalai Lama dies then perhaps that strategy will change. Certainly many young Tibetans are considering a more radical approach.

Prove to me there is such a thing as the Western media and I will eat my shoe. I have access to media from the entire world. I am not dependent on any one outlet or opinion. I think for myself. I am my own boss. I also travel internationally.

You cannot say I am informed by one entity and be correct. You must understand that I am not even from the West in the first place. I think that fundamentally all humans are the same and that nation states do not define the human condition. Media does not control people, nor does government. People are essentially the same despite culture or race or national origin.
