here's my problem with vanessa hudgens. She's a very good actress I will admit, but her singing could use a lot of work. But it was all edited in High School Musical so now everybody thinks she can sing and giving her big singing roles like this thereby butchering them.

It's not so much her voice as it is the lack of emotional depth required for Mimi's character. There was so much to Mimi, you didn't think she was stupid for doing drugs or her choice in career, there was a maturity to her- "I'm nineteen but I'm old for my age." I say this as an objective statement, and in no reference to Vanessa's past roles, but she took a thoroughly well written character in her strength, determination, and independence and transformed her into a whiny little brat.

It was Hollywood Bowl and that doesn't mean that each character had to be perfect. This was her interpretation. I didn't like it, and I won't listen to it again which is a shame, but she did her best. And good for her for breaking out of the Disney business. It's hard for people to take Disney stars seriously, and she's doing her best.
