THE SMITHS BEST BAND OF ALL TIME

  • I mean their idea for covering it was cool, but their execution was really sloppy.

  • This cover isn't that good but still it's a nice job done. IBlack04 is right, Brian doesn't try to imitate Morrissey, which helps him with the song a lot since Morrissey's voice is one of the most unique in the world. And besides vocals the music is really great.

'Till now the only one I've heard covering Morrissey in a almost mimetic way is Davey Havok from AFI.

  • I heard this before the smiths version and I honestly love them both to bits! This isn't the best quality of their cover but I still love it.

Brian and Morriessey would make a very good duet.

Obviously they both like each other so I don't get all the fan hate going on. XD

  • Holy shit that was horrible (IMO)

  • What a shit cover of a legendary song. I would like to smash every tooth in his head.

  • what 'bout the photos of that guy? kinda sick man

  • Fan of Placebo but they crucified this song.

  • wtf is this shit..this is the most horrible sounding voice i ever heard..he sounds like he is holding his nose while he is trying to sing hahaha

  • How can you say '' that's terrible, that sucks, that's bad cover '' ? Placebo is simply one of the best. And that cover is great.

  • this guys voice is fukin orrible, morrissey bashes this song

  • Steven Parick rules

  • only critic i can point out is that brian doesn't add much to a great song. it's a rock solid cover. but that's it. original is still unchallenged.

  • shit cover.

  • I never knew he sang; now I know how joan of arc felt. all those years. damn.

  • you might hate me but i like this one more.

  • I've been a Smiths fan since I was just a little kid (big brothers have their uses) and fond of Placebo since my early teens. I prefer the Smiths version overall, but this is a great cover. It's not a total rip-off and Malko doesn't try to be Morrissey, which is what makes it great. Besides, why limit yourself to one awesome version of one awesome song when you can love two?? :)

    Xx

  • Holy shit, that's so terrible I can't stop laughing!

    I think my megadrive melted!

  • Instrumentally this is an excellent cover, but--and its not the lisp; lisps never hurt any one--DON'T SKREW UP MORRISSEY's TIMING: TIMING is every thing think about all the great vocalists who can't sing at all=TIMING. And if you are changing the lyrics don't make them bad please, pretty please: what the fuck is a megadrive? You could say iPhone, Plastic Rose, any thing but not megadrive, and I don't like the lack of psg or the end. Other than that, awesome song. I wonder if they're vegans?

  • @0SierraMaestra0 Instrumentally this is so bad

  • I only fell in love with the smiths through this song. Thank you placebo, for forever influencing my life, both with your music, and with the smiths :)

  • 3:26 - Having a sly little pick there Brian? Thought you could get away with it undetected? Think again. Placebo and The Smiths both in a leauge of their own. 2 of my all time favourite bands. I'd love to hear them do "How soon is now?"

  • I like Placebo but they ruined this great song :(

  • good, but the smiths are way better!

  • placebo sucks.

  • @MrJOHN2319 the first verse defo applies to you then

  • Brilliant cover!

  • On very strange way, this is the best song by placebo!

  • awful

  • the worst cover i ve ever heard

  • perfection !

  • AIEEEEEEEEEEEEE

  • no pasa nada....

  • well, I think if you say this is ugly then you go and listen to J***** B*****, "thing" that I won't name and compare it with this e_e

If you don't like alt style or Brian someshit, I don't mind I think you should kill yourself not kill these piece of art.

  • No tienen las ardillas, que les den

  • I prefer Morrissey. No. Brian. No. Shit......

  • UGLY

  • KILL IT KILL IT WITH FIRE

  • I like this more than the original, but i sure know where it came from

  • well i love the voice of brian and dislikes morrissey's so i love this version ngfydrigfigkgf

  • so bad....

  • Uggghhhhhhh....

  • Nice cover =)

  • I adore this version, and Morrisey has a stupid haircut. That is all.

  • @DanielleDragula but his voice is miles better...think brian absolutely destroyed this one!

  • @infeted14 Not a big fan of Morriseys voice. I admit Brians voice is at the least slightly nasally, but I do enjoy nasally vocalists. And especially Brian as his haircut is far superior.

  • Ugly Version, feels like a ... placebo

  • Oh my lord, this is diabolical. Why did I have to be intrigued by this link?

  • yo, dont like it dont watch it, I personally like this version better so im gonna listen to this version, so haters gtfo

  • SUCKS

  • :-(

  • this version sucks big time. The Smiths is better than this. Morrissey sings better than this fag. A total bastardized version of BIG MOUTH STRIKES AGAIN. Brian's voice is overacting shit.

i would prefer the guys from asia over this placebo fag.

Please look for ROCKIN' PARTY - Big Mouth Strikes Again. That is a cover.

  • @damselknight8172 Funny that you call the singer of Placebo a fag. Have you listened to This Charming Man? Morrissey's sexuality is ambiguous, and he's written songs from a gay perspective. If you're going to use 'fag' as a derogatory term, then at least consider the context, you twat!

  • Never ever before heard this song by the smiths. first time i heard this song was by placebo. And i totally prefer this version. Lol the smiths singer sounds like he's been castrated and his tongue got cut off. Brians voice is so much better and this version has lots more energy. simple chance of tempo and singing volume does a lot. i like this cover better than the original. lol

  • @PhobicPanda I don't think you know what you are talking about.

Anyway, i like this version.Don't know why people bitch so much about this.

  • couldn't finish it D:!, I just don't like this cover, still I really enjoy others placebo' songs/covers :P

  • puta que pariu e muito mau

  • Not a great cover... but a good song is a good song everywhere :)

  • wtf?... owww man placebo shouldnt have tried this one...

  • Eh, you guys shut up. The song is great sung by BOTH Molko AND Morrissey. Good day.

  • Good lord. This guy just wishes he could sing like Morrissey

  • Cringe. This is awful, no one can compete with The Smiths.

  • this is the worst shit

  • I'm not a Smith fan (I like some of their songs) and I like Placebo but there are some songs that they' re just meant to be sung only by the original artist. In the case of Smiths, their style (especially Morrissey's voice) makes it very difficult for someone else to sing their songs. They are one of the most unique in style bands.

  • sea lo que sea placebo tienes buenos covers y la neta mucho los mejoro aunque morrisey sea viejo y bueno mejoraron su cover

  • 588 people would strike this bigmouth, and smash every tooth in his head.

  • @Staytec LOL!!!! Well deserved!!! ;)

  • @gilsonbicudo Myself included.

  • Wow, a Smiths song that's actually listenable to. Good job Placebo!

  • Si no les gusta jodanse, Placebo es lo mejor que hay. Go to hell! =)

  • wow that is dire

  • this song is what got me into placebo in the first place

  • A perfect music of Smiths completely destroyed by that terrible musicians... complete and absolute garbage.. a dirt... that vocalist's voice is horrible... it seems a dog howling while It defecates... I SAND!!!!

  • this is so shit lol

  • it s not thaaaat bad but ok i dont like placebo thaaat much so screw hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiim!:P

  • ¡¡¡Vaya destrozo de la canción de los Smiths!!!!

  • se ve que no conocen a placebo.

  • terrible cover

  • why do you all compare it with the smiths? i think he made a absolutly new song with his cover, he didnt want to make it better than the smiths, he got respect from them and he felt honored of cover this fuckin nice song...so i say this is a great song, i like it from both parts, even if they are different. and yes, brian molko CAN actually sing, and yes, this cover is great. I think its better to make a new song of it, instead of trying to copy a great band like the smiths...

  • @fuckeddirt ......they made a NEW song with the cover.....?>

  • Ok...why fuck up a perfectly good song?? SMFH

  • The guy CAN sing. But the song is ruined, his voice is not suitable for this song, this cover should just never been published, good voice but bad cover.

  • this tranny cant sing

  • i like it D:

  • bad cover, his voice doesn't suit the song

  • Can compare to the smiths

  • Gli Smiths non si toccano!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • sick cover

  • Puff

  • i love placebo, the smiths, and covers but this is just terrible in every way.

  • what about freedom of interpretation? a cover does not need to stand for same message in lyrics i find. and listening to their OWN work they deserve respect just as would morrisey would do a cover from them not?

  • Ohhhh I do love this cover version. I think I'm just addicted to Brians voice. I like the original but I hate the shrill backing singers in the chorus, kills the whole thing for me. Then again, I don't think there's a cover I've heard by Placebo I don't prefer, much prefer the where is my mind cover by Placebo. I'm just going to use all 123 remaining charecters like this: PlaceboPlaceboPlaceboPlaceboPlaceboPlaceboPlaceboPlaceboPlaceboPlaceboPlaceboPlaceboPlaceboPlaceboPlaceboPlaceboPlacebo<3<3<3

  • @DaniellaDragula There are no backing singers, that voice you hear is Morrisseys' which has been changed to sound sqeaky.

  • CRAP

  • It may not be the best cover of all times; however Placebo did help promote an amazing band! I mean, how many kids found the Smiths through Placebo covers? :)

    <3

  • You got no right to take your place in the human race ;-)

  • ... really awful howling

  • You cant top perfection when doing a cover, luckily you can make it alot worse.

  • ew

  • And... I just throw up

  • <3 placebo..and <3 dis song..<3 Brian

  • Love placebo, hate this cover.

Dislike The Smiths, love the original.

    Go figure.

No denying this song is a masterpiece... but only Picasso can paint Picasso.

  • Horrible, nasally shite. Butchery!

  • Love Placebo, love The Smiths, don't love this :( :(

  • Oh my lord was that awful!

  • this is terrible.. they tried to change a classic song with fantastic lyrics but completely failed.

  • Placebo is the very best band for everything but this one

  • Dear god that was atrocious

  • Nasally shitty cover..

  • Her discman started to melt? Did we really need an update. Next will be and her ipod started to melt. UGH.

  • I'm dissapointed by this cover :/ i thought their cover of "running up that hill" was great even though i love the original but this one was just not good.

  • I actually like this cover better than the original and I am a huge fan of The Smiths.

  • in greek

    Για τον πούτσο Καβάλα (εντελώς)

    in English

ftpk = for the pennis Kavala

  • I'ld hate to see what they'ld do to There Is A Light That Never Goes Out.

  • @PaulHong22 haha ur funny

  • oh no! no no no no noooooooo!! i think i wont be able to sleep tonite.................. bigmouth strikes again is a wonderful song, no offense for placebo but this cover is awful man

  • Fantastic song, totally ruined.

  • I Love The Smiths,

But this is a great cover.

  • The smiths are my favorite band, no contest. I can play many of their songs and know their lyrics by heart. I also enjoy operas, baroque lute music, and fourteenth century narrative poetry.

As a person of developed musical and cultural taste, I hereby say this cover, and placebo, in general, is wonderful. Nobody else is right.

  • Music is great, voice is irritating.

  • If anybody is to cover a Smiths song then I would have wanted Placebo to do it. Great band.

  • this is awesome.

  • fuck you fagots, you screwed a great song !

  • @fajrspredr they didnt screw it up,they made it their own. obv smiths are gonna be ahead of anyone that covers any of their music.i quite like it but i do luv original too

  • @fajrspredr Are you aware that Morrissey wrote songs from a gay perspective, or did you just use the word 'faggot' without actually thinking? Consider the context before you open your mouth, and learn to spell.

  • ive never liked this band the blokes voice really gets on my nerves, and this just made me dislike them even more!

  • I really love both bands, but this cover to /me/ is just 'meh.' It's cool they decided to make the song their own though. The whole point of a cover is paying tribute to another band's music by doing so. Which means not only does Placebo make amazing music, but they also have great taste in other music. Hence their Depeche Mode covers and such. =P

  • GO BRIAN GO BRIAN

  • GOD AWFUL!!

  • any one else notices the random Indian guy

  • im runnin up that hill

  • It is good to hear good cover, but if a band has more clicks on their covers than on their own songs - it is a sad true for that band.

  • I really like both Placebo and The Smiths but it's just that I don't feel Molko's voice fits very well in this song :S

  • Nice try, but its a fail .

  • @arillle yeah whatever

  • Great cover! Dancing in Israel!

  • its a great song and this is a decent cover, i like em both

  • no one can cover a smiths song, there style is far too unique and centred around morriesey's voice

  • I like The Smiths version better, only because the singing is on a completely different level.

  • I love The Smiths, but this song... Placebo gives it a lot more passion and anger, which suits the subject rather well. So I'd say it's one of those few times when the cover is better than the original, IMHO

  • This cover is amazing. Of course that the original song of "The smiths" is more great, but ... I love both of them. And they have there own stile. ACCEPT THAT.

  • his voice is so nasaly

  • An abomination

  • wow another song about my ex

  • This is a great cover, but in my own opinion i waayy prefer the smiths orgininal version <3

  • Placebo.....it only works when you believein it...but these dudes certainly do NOT make it work. I've heard a lot better from them

  • Una pregunta: ¿ A los Placebo después de esta versión los smiths no los encerraron y tiraron la llave? el intro del principio es para salir corriendo y no parar, por no seguir con lo que viene acontinuación.

  • No need to compare cover to the original. I LOVE the original...

And, you know, this is a good cover, actually. There's no need to mention you like the original better. I'm sure most people do.

    But Placebo did well.

  • prefiro the smiths......semduvida

  • i reackon alot of people didnt listn to the whole thing. im not a fan of placebo, and i dont think his singing is up to it, but the instrumentation is great.

  • Brian Molko is a genius.

    This cover is amazing!!

    Now shut up!!

  • No, this is actually awful. It adds nothing, and his voice is gormless and pissy. Also, what's with "mega drive started to melt?" I get that he thinks he's updating the lyrics with more modern devices, but the point of Morrissey's line "hearing aid started to melt" seems to refer to her supposed ability to hear the voice of god. As the flames rise, suddenly she's not so sure of herself anymore. This guy doesn't even understand the song he's covering.

  • @ergotNalkaloid Put fantastically! Just about everything I was going to say. It does not sound good. The instrumentation is done fairly well but this is not a good cover, sorry.

  • @ergotNalkaloid He should've said iPod, would've made more sense. And I agree his voice goes straight through me. He has no right to take his place with the human race ;)

  • @ergotNalkaloid there is a clear difference between bands that cover songs cos they believe to come up with an improved version and bands who just feel like paying tribute to their own fave musicians. brian molko's voice definitely is one to love or hate and I absolutely get how it can piss one off to listen to a cover of a beloved song that doesn't click. still you can be sure that he understood the song very well, besides, morrisey liked their job, they are friends anyway.

  • @ergotNalkaloid

well, Morrissey updates the lyrics himself live with walkman/iPod started to melt, so take the stick out of your arse.

  • @frauleinschwein what an absolutey un-morrissey thing to say. Song still manages to be more pretentious than the original, which quite a feat, considering he's going up against Morrissey. But Morrissey has that humor and levity in his voice.

  • Comment removed

  • @ergotNalkaloid no it doesn't, it's a joke, don't be pretentious.

  • Awful!! Makes you reallise what geniuses Morrissey & Marr were!!

  • High surfer?? Shameful about being American right now. >[

  • Yeah- brian you are a genius.. love it!!!

  • Don't like the vocals but what a fecking good job the band did. But then again, who can match Morrissey's beautiful voice?

  • @StrawberryJungle omg how can u say u dont like the vocals !!!!!!!! brian's voice is the most powerful and most magical voice i've ever heard <3 love placeboooo

  • @anamuri00 Well it's a subjective matter isn't it really lol. I prefer Morrissey, you prefer Brian. The world goes on :)

  • Love both bands but prefer Morrissey's voice on this one but the backing is FANTASTIC!!

  • This is fucking horrific

  • Good cover...musical with a good bit of Placebo personality. Not just a Morrissey and Johnny clone.

  • is that guy wearing makeup??!!

  • @superbronden indeed he is :]

  • Another Yank has absolutely ruined British music. I will never listen to the original with such love again. Absolutely butchered it. They deserve to be condemned to a dismal life of servitude at Wendy's.

  • @oneilexpress ...placebo aren't american, but okay.

  • @oneilexpress

    Calm down, dear.

Did you listen to Placebo's cover of "Running up That Hill"? I love Kate Bush's original, but I think Placebo's cover of it is terrific. Not better, just different, and interesting.

  • @oneilexpress

And btw Placebo aren't American, although their mixed heritage includes American elements. (Molko's father is American.)

  • I love how they changed the lyrics to "discman"...

  • Sweetness is one of the best songs ever!!!! Unfortunately Placebo's version can't be compared with the Smith's one!!!! Good effort though

  • @GeorgeK91 "Sweetness"? Dumbass, it's "Bigmouth strikes again". And this cover sucks.
