go to a new save file and get on one of the vines and press left left left right right right up up up and pause the game and press your first jump button then your at the menu and go down twice to the bottom and go there then go to mushroom hill act 1 then get on the manual elevator and do the same code as the vine plus the pause again then your at the menu go to the level select again and hold your jump button before you pick your level then pick your level and your done enjoy

@peperwqio beat the game first then do the following: with the beat save file go to angel island and get on one of the rope things you hang on to and press leftx3, rightx3, and upx3. now get a game over. hold y (if you have classic collection) and go to mushroom hill. go to a elevator and do the same thing. die and hold y until you can move. press b to turn into a ring and y to cycle through items. if you want to do this before mushroom hill just get a game over and hold y at the selected zone.
