  • Lead singer looks like Craig Bellamy

  • my new ring tone

  • She was...but you would have to ask the canera man, if he's still around.

  • had the pleasure of seeing this fine band on a number of occassions. never disappointed

  • joo kurkkupurkeista tehtiin rummut ja putkiradiosta vahvarit soitettettiin

kovaa ja korkeelta 1978 oulussa ja naapuri hälyytti kytät jeeeeeeee oli se aika.........

  • The Adverts & the Buzzcocks=Best Punk Rock Drumlines Ever!

  • The Gary Gilmore song - you'll see more of her there. x

  • I saw The Adverts playing with the damned way back! Crossing the Red Sea is THE underated album from that time - pisses on Never Mind the Bollocks!!

  • crist good days this was first singel ever i bought

  • top!

  • Great track and also check roddy76to86's upload of the song.

  • just heard this live 20 mins ago, fricking awesome

  • wow this is rare, my fav song by them

  • tv was a lucky man.

  • cute, poor old Howard is dead, at least things happened back then

  • btw crs was the first punk cd from the adverts so i hold a special place for them in my heart...love the song...

  • the cameras avoid gaye cos she doesn't look slutty and she's sexier than blondie any given day if blondie were up their playing bass the cameras would be all over her...gaye was the punk pin up first to drooling guys...and maybe girls...

  • great to hear this song on youtube !

    Thanks for posting !

  • The best Punk Rock single ever.

  • ... and the best singer ever

  • YAH

  • 21 seems to be the ideal punk-rock age to die lol

  • hahaha most rock stars did end up dying before 30

  • Yes, he is still alive and still a dick. This is great to see, pity they are miming though - and why do the cameras avoid Gaye? surely she was the most photogenic!

  • @nicky52 miming? dude, its a fukkin video

  • @ChrisCrueHead666 - It is an appearance on BBC' Top of The Pops' - not a video, and they are miming when they could easily have performed it perfectly well live. I saw this on TOTP and I saw the Adverts live many times, so I don't really see the point of your illiterate comment.

  • @nicky52 she had a tendency to mouth "fuck off" whenever a camera was pointed at her

  • @nicky52 shes also hot too

  • Blackburn would only ever crap endlessly on about soul , he was a dick , is he still alive?.

  • anyone know where i can get a good tab for this???

  • Well Tony Blackburn always was and still is a complete twat.

  • love the adverts =)

  • The face at the beggining was DJ Tony Blackburn who introduced Top of the Pops back then. He hated Punk and always slagged it off on his radio show.

  • Tony Blackburn hated every type of rock.

  • Is this dubbed?

  • It's top of the pops - I remember watching it at the time. And yes it was mimed.

  • awesome, love this song.

  • Sounds pretty good live. A lot of the early punk songs were a reaction against the over-produced bands of the mid 1970s. They must have sounded really strange at the time. ( and so were an easy tarhget for critics )

  • I just discovered them, so cool, and they sound really fresh:)

  • this is one of the best underated punk bands ever gaye advert is a great bassit and a inspration and tv smith is awesome too

  • the worst thing about people not knowing who the adverts are are the fact that they were the first punk band to get a no.1 single on the uk pop charts w/gary gilmore's eyes

  • er, they didn't get to no.1, it was like no.17 at best... but still the most important of the first wave of English punk, gotta love em. TV Smith one of the best RnR lyricists ever

  • Kind of a shame, this band is always put in the back burner when the first wave of punk is discussed, personally i think there just as important as The Clash,Sex pistols etc.

  • absolutely...they were more talented than the pistols and every bit as talented as the clash...and gaye advert was in my opinion the best bassist of first wave

  • I agree with you 100 per cent on your first two statements! But Gaye advert the best bass player? To be honest her lines are even more stumbly than the young Paul Simenon, and do you think she evn comes close to JJ Burnel?

  • I'm not going to debate personal opinion...jj was good even though i never really cared for the stranglers...but his lines were alot more polished...gaye had a rawness to her style that nobody else can really match...

  • i'm related to the drummer he's my dad's cousin

  • thats pretty cool man

  • Great band

If you read their lyrics on the page they are probably some of the most intelligent and poetic of that 77 punk era

  • Saw the Adverts a few times, playing with the Damned, as cricforum has already said totally underated, their 1st Album 'Crossing the Red sea' is in the top 5 Punk albums. These being in my humble opinion: No 1: Damned Damned Damned No:2 Crossing the Red Sea No:3 The Clash No:4 The Scream No:5 Never Mind the Bollocks

  • Damned Damned Damned is a great fucking album...absolutely essential

  • very pop like but well yeah 77 ...

  • though still great !

  • Probably the most under-rated first wave British punk band. The b-side to this single was a top tune called New Day Dawning.

  • badass - I love their music - I have them on repeat whilst I paint nude people - gives it more oomph!

  • wtf...?!

  • I'm a painter my dear - I paint to unleash my creative talents and intellectual property. Sometimes I paint pretty nude men (aka male prostitutes) and other times I paint people who are dead. And if you understand that, you'll understand that in order to paint you need to listen to badass music to inspire you even more. Some folk are soooo simple:)

  • i think i'd need something more than punk to make me do that... :P

  • Gary Adverts exelent!

  • Wow just listen to that bass! XD

  • Fast,clean,cheap

  • her bass only sounds good cus shes playing a rickenbacker and those will make anyone sound good...overall...one of my fav bands

  • Nice upload - thanks.

    Gaye's bass sounds good here.

May God come down from His Heaven to bless Da Adverts.

  • They had no choice about miming in those days

  • the tag says "live". do you know what that means? it doesnt mean miming to your record.

  • I like that you can actually hear the bass in their songs

  • Will Someone please post One Chord Wonders. Please Please

  • It WAS TOTP in 1977.

  • 1978 to be exact - February time! :)

  • 41! He actually looks older in that

clip then yesterday when I saw him

perform in London, I want a pint of

    whatever he drinks!

    Fantastic clip, thanks for

    posting.

  • No time to be 41 - cheeky young whippersnappers

  • i love that english old bands

old punks rocks and they never talked about anarchy i dont know why today people ascociate punk with anarchy

anarco punks fuck off you destroyed punk music punk in the artistic way

  • Thank you! You are so right

  • Lipsynching? It must've been TOTP...

  • i recon its the ogwt

  • That's the album version...

Was this top of the pops or something?

  • i love watching trendy twats dancing to punk on t.o.t.p jerk offs

  • Didn't realise that TV had got to meet Tony Blackburn!
