the whole song is about him losing somebody (ie they died) like the lyric 'yesterday i lost my closest friend'. the thing about letting go is because he needs to let go and get over it basically. its called 4 am forever because, as you said, 4 am is the time when the most people die and if he doesnt let go he will be dwelling on death forever.
