i lived where the tronado is it wasn't scary at all because my dad lied and said that the sky was red cus of the sunset and he also said that we had to take a bath with no water and clothes on i belived him cus i was like 4 lol
yeah that was a scray day what town do u live in in central illionis u probably already know by my name but i live in Newton. i still remeber bawling on and off during the evening lol. they never had the sirens go off here but thankfully, there were no confirmed tornadoes in jasper county
omg i live in illinois i was 9 when this happened i was scared shitless that day cuz my county was under a tornado warning twice in an hour and a half as well as a flash flood warning severethunderstorm warning and a tornado watch all at the same time!
Wow. Warnings like that always scare the crap out of me! To those who were asking who was the "guy" that did the recording for that, I think it was a computerized voice :P
I'm in Suffolk County, the last tornado I remember was Bridgehampton in '95, and I was on the beach for the duration even though the supercell was only 30 miles away. I invested in a portable weather radio pretty quickly after that!
Suffolk County, New York has had 20 Tornadoes since 1950. the last one hit Islip Terrace in 2007 and it was an F-1.
Suffolrk County uses Firehouse Sirens for Tornado Warnings instead of Tornado Sirens proably becasue of the expense of buying and reparing Tornado Sirens and besides that the Firehouse sirens in Islip Terrace are Loud Federal Singal Thunderbolt Sirens anyway.
You NOT saying Twisters Never hit New York.... you just saying New York never has got that many severe Tornadoes at nighttime before, right? because i know some towns in New York have Tornado Sirens, but others like New York City Dont.
This year 2008...Arkansas has had the worst amounts of Tornado Outbreaks in history! I talk to people who lived in Arkansas all their life and they said this NEVER happened before..
A little of an oops by steve prinzavalli of whio-tv comming on the air while the eas is still going on but I guess he thought that the message was over

ok, now I'm just scared now. Here in Canada, We just have tornado watches and warnings broadcasted on the radio, and they just tell us where to hide and stuff. They don't make a big fuss about it until one touches the ground. Of course, I've never had a tornado before, and I certainly don't want to have one now!
I never understood Envoirment Canada' way of doing warnings. They pretty much only say the cities of the warning and the same message saying "take cover" but there is no detail on where the storm is and where it is heading... I know Canada uses the Northern United States major cities "local channels" for NBC, ABC, FOX, and CBS... But are there any "local" or regional stations in Canada that will brodcast live for warnings? Or just The Weather Network?
I'm not really sure. I've never been IN a tornado, but we HAVE had tornado warnings before. I just can't remember what happened. And, I keep watching the Weather Network, cuz it's me favourite channel, and I keep up to date. Other than that, I don't know. Probably, they don't broadcast emergencies until one has touched down.
We have a new system here for Tornado/Flash Flood Warnings but we have not had to use it yet since it was installed eariler this year... I beleive our cable boxes will do the same thing and the on-screen graphic is more specific.
No report of a tornado in the Valley but there were reports in Indiana and that is what the NWS in wilmington was going by since all three radars in Dayton/Wilmington were having a very hard time seeing anything north of I-70 once the line "snaked" across the area.
I will never forget that day, the high school where i live was having graduation, and the school is under construction, and a tornado came within 100 yards of the school!!!
Memorial Day Sunday 2004 Was A Good One... How About Memorial Day 2007 In The Miami Valley? The Storm Prediction Center Says There Might Be Some Severe Weather Saturday/Sunday Here... As Long As The Power Stays On, I Will Have Coverage.
I caught a mistake made by that NWS Robot. On the first Tornado Warning, he said severe storms were located at 9:46pm EST, but it should be 9:46pm EDT.
Listen to 3:30 to 3:34. The guy said "The situation with these tornado warnings are not......." Then the Warning tones. that is so hilarious! Trust me. i'tll crack you up!!!!!
Unlike the DFW area, they don't cut in and out of a Tornado warning storm. just the other day, DFW was hit by bad storms but, WFAA, FOX 4 (KDFW), NBC 5 (KXAS),and CBS 11 (KTVT)/TXA 21 (KTXA). stay with the coverage.
That EAS was less scary than where I live (which I will never tell you my location, there is some idiots that will try to kidnap me). Let me explain this to you.
When you are watch a show, then out of nowhere, the EAS pops out, then that annoying robotish guy's voice say " the Emergency Alert System has been activated, go to channel 23 for more information" it says it a couple times then it stop. I can pop ut another time. Can you picture that?
Yes, because our cable does the same thing, except ours is Channel 21. You get a red screen on any other channel and then you get this blue screen on 21 with the message. I wonder if you are close to me, but thank goodness we now have satellite instead (don't worry, I have a weather radio).
Sometimes it can be very hard... I have seen stations in Dayton lose all video and go into a black screen "Radio Mode" and just talk for an hour. WHIO and WDTN are hard core on coverage here in Dayton.
Had to be a long night for these guys. We don't get tornadoes up in my neck of the woods, but hey we still get severe weather, and some tornadoes. If something like that happens, we get local station break-ins, but the TV very rarely if ever broadcast EAS alerts sent from the NWS.
Our meterologist have long nights when this happens. I remember not that long ago we had a weather event that lasted 12 hours (although the wall-to-wall coverage only went from 8:45 that night until 3:00 the next morning we were under a watch so they broke in every half hour)
I'll admit. Your guy's EAS activates MUCH faster than ours. They can issue a warning and it'll be about 1-3 minutes before the system notices and interrupts any broadcasts.
We have just installed a brand new upgrade to the cable EAS in Western Ohio so hopefully every channel will get the alert as fast as WHIO does currently.
Its ok for him to talk fast as long as you can understand what hes saying. Besides he was just having a adrline rush form having to cover such a stress event.
I actually remember this storm. These storms built just ahead of Indianapolis just before the 500 ended. I'm in east central Darke county. I remember having to get up out of bed and get ready to hit the basement. Tornados at night? No thanks. Got any more of these?
Just search "WHIO" and/or "EAS" and you can find everything I have... I pretty much have all the big ones posted and as we go into 2007, I hope to see a busy year once again and have things posted by the next day of the event.
Are you a meteorologist? if so I would like a phone #, cause I live in Trotwood Ohio in Mont. County. and I'm in the country part near Sycamore State Park. Do you have footage of the Trotwood Tornado of 1997? I would like to see that. Thanks
