  • Alot of people think this is about a kids father,But it is really about his son when I believe he was 4 or 5,He feel off there balcony and died,Rip.

  • @minecraftrules121 man you got the wrong song tears in heaven is about his son and he fell out of a window of the hotel that somebody has left open

  • I want to play this for people and belt out the lyrics.

  • my father is alcoholic. he was sick. now he is in hospital and maybe never gonna get out of there... my father stays unknown to me 4 ever, and that is sad :( but this song gives me some other view of father, i mean God. He is the Father of Fathers... and never ever leave me! so great song"!

  • Amen to that

  • my dad, wentand threw everything away for alcohol, died when i was 13, dont know why he went and did it, sometimes i feel so sad it makes me angry at him and miss him at the same time.. this song brigs a tear to my eyes everytime..

  • I loved this song the first time I heard it. My father has never really been in my life.

Waiting for my prince to come - I felt that way in my childhood.

    Thanks for posting.

  • every time i hear this i think of my father

  • Lost my Dad in 1993. This song brought tears to my eyes. Wish I could bring my Dad back for just one day, so I could tell him how i loved him. I will alway cherish your memory, Dad.

  • wonderful song by arguably the best guitarist ever!

  • I dont have a son yet, but my love is waiting for him!

  • Thank you I've haven't seen this video in a long time. Thank you.

  • My dad isn't here anymore, but he's always in my heart. He was my first love. See you again one day dad x

  • Nice Cool i Like this Clip!

  • BEST ERIC CLAPTON SONG EVER!!!

  • I'm not sure why I love this song. Perhaps I need to know why my father self destructed his life and died so many years ago. He was an alcoholic and died when I was 11 years old some 37 years ago. Peace to all!

  • Peace to you, brother.

  • my old man did the same, respect brother

  • كلمات رائعة :-)

  • Moving.

  • This song is also a form of closure regurding his dead son

  • Dad... you are missed.

  • you never forget your fathers eyes, they stay ith you long after he has left. r.i.p. dad, 11-18-03

  • He's making an eulogy to his dead father... is it so hard for you to understand, you disrespectful prick?

  • why not?

  • True... two days after my birthday and he gave me a guitar... RIP 6.10.2008

  • He performed the song for the first time in 1992, but it wasn't released as a single until 1998

  • no this song was not out i dont think 16yrs ago,i was trying to say this song reminds me of my dad. this is a super song.

  • you are a stupid slut, aren't you?

  • what a classy sob

  • i love this song it reminds me of my father who has been gone almost 16yrs but it still seems like yesterday to me. great song

  • I never realised this was realised sixteen years ago. Thanks for the knowledge. That I think (and I am thinking off the top of my head) is not long after "Tears in Heaven". A truly tragic but perversly productive period of Claptons life.....

  • all personal music reflect the ture beauty of music and one's personal talent... this is perfection of feelings one can't even sometimes talk about or write about...

  • i miss u dad..

  • Many people, would not agree but this is my favorite Clapton track.

  • i agree with you this song is amazing and anyone who tells you different should take a second look

  • i agree. Such a beautiful song

  • same here !not really in to him but, this is my all time best song,so much emotion !!respect !

  • he's the real best one in talkin' 'bout private deep things.

I Think it's hard to put yourself's problems in a song and sing it in front of the world.

  • i lovethis song.....simply d best

    Tats'ke

  • The song he wrote for his son was called "The circus left town" He wrote "Tears in heaven" for a movie called "Rush".

  • no he wrote both the circus left town and tears in heaven for connor (his son)

  • said it before, but this song is pure class,so much feeling, want it played when they put me in the ground, but not anytime soon i hope..lol

  • I must admit when I was younger I used to loathe Clapton's work, I don't know - he just used to annoy the hell out of me.

    Now I'm 28, I love his music!

    He is pure class (c:

  • Beautiful, just a great song by one of the greatest musicians of all time. One of many.

  • No, I've been told it's dedicated to his son, and Lory Del Santo's too, who died in the Usa, falling from a high building :( poor son

  • Mi sa che la canzone di cui parli è "Tears in Heaven"

  • That was "Tears in Heaven"

  • Tears in heaven was written for his son.

This is written about his father who he never met

  • Luv it...This has gotta be as near to perfection as is possible to achieve. Some call this man God - maybe they have a point. I just love the soul singers throughout this track and I really never knew Clapton's singing was that soulful. I have been educated.

When EC passes over to the other side, I feel there is a special place set aside for him, right next to the main man with the beard and the deep voice.

  • does anybody know the meaning of the song and who this song is dedicated to??? poor son :( However the song is amazing..love this song..

  • As I understand it, the inspiration for this song was Eric Clapton's own father, who he never met (his father died in 1985).

  • I love this song, I am reading his biography, ''Clapton''. I have listened to this song for the past week since I started it.

  • This guy is truly a musical genius.

  • Heavenly and beautiful. Wonderful lyrics and so soulful. Thank you.

  • I love this song... so much.. thanks for posting.

  • lol this song is proof that eric clapton is more than just the greatest guitarist ever

he is, imo, the greatest solo musician ever

  • great song

  • havent heard this 4 ages, pure class,so many different meanings for people, makes me think i wished i would had tryed to get to know my dad better, but still, theres a lesson there somewhere!!respects people its never to late!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Dude, there's only one meaning.

He didn't know his dad cause he was a canadian soldier who his mother had an affair with. He then left.

  • music is a subjective art, even the most blunt lyrics could mean something totally different to someone else.

  • He said "different meanings for different people" Which is true, songs don't always mean exactly what they were written about for everyone. Got attempt to flex your musical grey matter elsewhere.

  • I agree, songs meanings change with the listeners.

  • agree with you dude !respects !!

  • i like this song "dream"

  • I got a stupis question, what song is the car accident song...I though it was by Eric Clapton, but now im not so sure...can anyone help me???

  • Pearl Jam The name of the song has escaped me at the moment but i think thats the song your talking abou

  • "Last Kiss" is the one by Pearl Jam

  • This is my favorite song by him

  • One of the coolest music videos ever :)

  • uh...his son did not commit suicide

he fell out of a 53 story window while he was with him mom and one of her friends

3 year olds probably dont have that much to be sad about (give them some candy and they are fine) and wouldn't realize suicide i dont think

  • Yes, I didn't know the right word, that's to say "toddler"

  • The guy's had a fucked up life. He grew up thinking his grandfather was his real dad, among other fucked up shit, then his son commited suicide.

    Jesus.

  • Eric Clapton's son was too young to commit suicide when he died. It was an accident.

  • i think it was that he thought his mother was his sister and that his grandma was his mom. and yea his 3 yr old son did not commit suicide

  • Rsmaggus, that's true. You are right.

Eric Clapton, in addition to that drama, lost his son who committed suicide falling down from a balcony. The mum of the baby was an Italian showgirl, Lory Del Santo. Eric dedicated to Lory "The lady from Verona" and the couple split up after the tragedy.

    This song moves me

  • what you said was partly rtrue but his son didnt commit suicide... his son was a toddler... He fell out of the window of Clapton's penthouse

  • exactly, poor eric

  • bit by bit...

  • woah!!! just realized clapton looks very much like Freeman from Half Life!

  • Without the glasses, Clapton looks a little bit like Dr. House as well.

  • haha ye i fort that

  • Yeah, and with the glasses he looks like the Gary Oldman version of Commisioner Gordon.

  • at 3:19-3:24 you see a face of a young boy, and an older man. It represents his father and son. There is no reference to god in this song at all.

  • I love this song, sort of strikes a chord. We all have had this sort of situation happen at one time or another...

  • maybe its about both you muppets, both were traumatic experiences in his life, so he could get his inspiration from both. ALso, he never got to know his father, his son never got to know him, so obviously he could mix up both messages as he may see them both as one thing?...

  • he actually meet his father before he died..=]

  • No, actually the song was inspired about Clapton's father, who passed away in 1985. His dad was a Canadian pilot, and Clapton was raised by his grand mother, believing that she was his mother. Just my two cents.

  • I love eric clapton this is one of his greatest songs...

  • Actually, allmodcons6, it's about his son Connor. Why would he mention things like "how do I teach him" and "What do we play?". Look up the history of the song and read his autobiography. This was written after his son died from falling out of a window, and not being there to know his son.

  • He ain't wankin' off too much here.

  • This song is amazing! You can just feel the emotion behind it all!

  • This song is amazing! You can just feel the emotion behind it!!

  • just fabulous!

  • I worship this song. I hold it above all else Clapton has ever done, I don't care about Layla or Wonderful Tonight or anything else.

  • poor Eric he made this song but he algo mande othe songs for Connor Clapton Eric made him 2 special songs wich was "The Circus left town" which was becuase the day before his son died Eric took Connnor to the circus,, then the other song was..

  • Does no one understand this is a play on the word "father". Not just his real father but also "holy father". I am not a religious guy but it was clear to me. This is a song about Clapton trying to deal with his son's death and whether there is a God to make sense of it all.

  • Listening to it again, it makes a lot of sense, including the line: How did I get here? I never thought about that. Well noticed, rgrathbun.

  • Tears in heaven was about his son's death. This has a duel meaning, well spotted!

  • no, it has nothing to do with god. eric has said what this song is about many times and has never said anything about god.

  • its about his dad you muppet. he never met his dad (hence the lyric 'how will i know when, when i look in my father's eyes). nothing to do with god

  • I absolutely love this song. My father is still alive, Thank God, but this is hands down my favorite song of all time.

  • Wonderful song.............

  • im pleased you found jesus because i did too he was behind the sofa all along !

  • Simply amazing!!

  • Das haben wir früher immer mit unserem Kochlehrer im AUto gehört, wenn wir einkaufen waren :D

  • 4:01 is sad.

  • I can say that I've never met my real father, so i missed out alot of stuff.I've grown into a man on my own terms with my heavenly father Jesus guiding me through!! That "footprints in the sand"really holds true. If you come across it take the time to read it and see if it applies to you!

  • If you had a step-father or foster father, how would he feel if he knew you said you missed out. If not, forget it.

  • Daddy I miss you since August 13,2008. I am not advertising this for sympathy. I just want to tell people please do not abuse drugs. I lost him at only 55. I can never get him back. Be good to eachother and love you. Don't do drugs. I will miss him for ever. He was a great man. Drugs destroy everything. I hate Drugs that kill.

  • What a legend.

  • Guad123, the purpose of this song is that Eric never met his father and now that he's dead, eric regrets missing his chances to meet his dad. F.Y.I., In 2004, Clapton retired this song and "Tears in Heaven".

  • Guys were forgetting about Eric here, this is turning into a chat place. Eric is amazing.

  • good point and ya eric is amazing

  • sounds like your dad was a jerk

  • What does Hitler have anything to do with this?

  • He wasn't supporting your obnoxious behavior. He was supporting the people who were posting the RIP dad comments.

Means that since they have every rights to speak out their thoughts, you do too. But when you do in it in away that makes you look like a douchebag, we're going to disagree with you.

  • I don't post religiously on youtube and am unaware of replying methods.

  • Alright. I said what I wanted to say.

  • It was above your comment, if I replyed to yours it would put it under would it not? Regardless, you are an asshole mocking people whom have lost their fathers.

  • Well it must be true...I didn't even address you as a peice of shit. But you chimed in right away even thought I was. Hmm interesting.

  • What a comeback dipshit. No one's looking for sympathy either. Way to be an asshole dickface.

  • You're a piece of shit.

  • that was to guad123

  • People deal differently in their grief, seeing how Eric Clapton is a musical artist, it would just come naturally to express his feelings into words and songs.

  • I care, you heartless bastard, this sends a message to all telling us to cherish life, do you not care that his young son died either? You probably haven't felt the sting of a parent's or child's death.

  • this last comment was directed towards gaud123

  • that is so true that was hella ignorant and sh!t as an artist you tend to express emotions you cant talk about its a medium to get things out and all who dont believe me can go to hell

  • Plus, he was originally supposed to be on the flight that ended up killing Stevie Ray Vaughan, so that might be part of his message to cherish life as well.

  • En mis top 10. Adoro a Clapton.

  • ONE WORD...........CLASS

  • Yes, yes we are. And the internet was created as a means of expression our opinions. Whether someone agrees with them or not.

  • I love this song, it always calms me down. Beautiful.

  • Dude, that's a little heartless. No one may care, but who are we to judge.

  • I care

  • Eric Clapton was a bastard child (using technical terms) of a musician with low income. It's incredible how he came to become such an incredible legendary musician in such a harsh life as a child. He is the finest example of his generation. Clapton is an idol of mine and Mozart of the Modern Age.

  • Whenever I listen to Eric Clapton, I can't concentrate on anything. His music is just speechlessly amazing.

  • amen

  • rip daddy

    march 13, 2007

  • great song....reminds me of my dads passing as well....R.I.P. pops, March 23, 2008

  • dad,his reminds me of u, wot a song from your son ste x

  • lovely song, made me cry

  • A legend song from Clapton.

  • I cry every time I hear this song. It really reminds me of my dads passing

  • One of my favorite Eric Clapton songs! I do love it!

  • Reminds me of my father

  • eric clapton doesnt sing tears in heaven and fathers eyes anymore after what happened to his son :(

its a shame hes a great musician and always will be a legend in the singer song writer industry

  • he wrote tears in heaven FOR his son, his death wasn't what stopped him from playing it anymore. He stopped playing both Tears in Heaven and My Father's Eyes in 2004, because he said he didn't feel the loss anymore. He played those songs when he could connect with the emotion he felt when they died, but he doesn't feel that anymore. He stopped because he doesn't want those feelings to come back.

  • love this song reminds me of my dad who i love!

  • kool song
