  • how much did it cost for all the new stuff?

  • No anti static wristband ?

  • why did you take it out in the first place?

  • Hey there!...: )

I am such a Techno Geek and loved your approach to making this tutorial. I did it and it was very successful : ) I have one question for ya though...Who sings the song that's in your clip and what's the title?!!! I LOVE IT!

  • just of curiosity, would it be possible to switch a late 2006 1.83 ghz core 2 duo logic board with a 2.1 core 2 duo logic board from a 2008 macbook? this being wanting up up grade the graphics card, but is it worth it?

  • that looks fucking impossible and what if you fuck that up ...you ll look a right dick head ...please nobody try this unless you know what the fuck you are doing ...other wise you ll have a rubbish piece of plastic ...

  • Where did you bought your motherboard and for how much? Nice video!

  • just want to know after iu replace the logic board, need to instal anyting or just turn on and go! thanks for iu help!

  • PSAPP FTW

  • If your computer was DOA, why not bring it to Apple. You get a free 1 year warrenty.

  • what about thermal compound??

  • the motherboard is still the same as by the 2008 apple macbook

  • if its new apple will swap it for a new one if you just call them da

  • Well if he could just do it himself and save money then why not?

  • oh and i think they are both from the same generation

  • CAN SOMEONE HELP ME? i got a black macbook and the logic board got fried thats what apple said, but a friend of mine got a whitemacbook that he is not using anymore... so can i take his logicboard and install it into a black one???

  • @xluisdix i'd say so, they're just different case colours arent' they?

  • well i got surprise to find out that the werent... sometimes the lower case is different so know i have a blackwhite macbook LOL everything is black except the lowercase i had to keep it to use its motherboard

  • lol good to know, if i ever need to do it :D put a white graphic on the black top and it'll look like it was custom :D

  • I've come to believe that apples logic boards have a shelf life about 3-4 years.. Seems like they always need to be replaced eventually.

  • I agree with you bud.

seems that the components after repetitive heat and strain eventually breaks down.

hopefully mine lasts longer since it's always in an air conditioned room. using it in a controlled environment really helps a lot.

  • more like 2 years...

  • I think I have to replace my logic board too. Where's the best place to purchase a new one?

  • whats a logicboard? pc alternate = motherboard?

  • Yes, logic board is what APPLE calls their "motherboards"

  • well thats lame!

  • I love both PC and MAC, but too me logic board just sounds better. Motherboard sounds like something an alien would have. You know like a ¨mothership¨lol

  • Where is the music from? It sounds nice and cool!

  • Cosy in the Rocket by Psapp (Opening theme of Grey's Anatomy)

  • Thanks! Alhough I must say I found it already.

  • n1 work :)

  • nevermind. i misread the title.... continue on

  • thats not a lombard. thats an ibook.

  • hey what kind of connectors does apple use for the parts that connect to the logic board? like i have a new fan that fits in my macbook but it's the wrong kind of connector. do you know what they are called?

  • i just bought a imac g3 laptop on ebay it works and everything. I just need to buy the Airport card and im set. I got it for $123 on ebay. Did i get a good deal tho?

  • the price is honest, and also the value...i personally hate the Gx series...are slow, and have no multitask capability at all..

i would take a netbook at that point and put osx on it, or save money for an intel mac

  • hey, can u tell me where i can get a logic board?

  • Well, you're already at the best place for computer spares and parts: Youtube!

I always get my computer parts from here.

Some idiot tried to tell me to use 'google' or something, but I know they were trying to trick me.

Just keep asking on youtube and I'm sure you'll be fine.

  • haha its funny because its no true.. haha

  • The ice cube tray for keeping fasteners. Brilliant!

  • The last thing you put in. Was that the battery?

  • Yup!

  • THANKS, WICH SCREW ARE YOU USING?

  • he works at appple

  • As a certified Apple Tech, I give that logic Board six months at the max.... Why you may ask...?

That demonstration was done without any ESD safety.

Electrostatic discharge cannot be seen with the human eye, but handling printed circuit boards without equalizing the electronic field around you blows miniature holes in the circuitry. A grounded wrist or ankle strap would have made for a much more desirable demonstration.. ESD safety is vital for the life of the components.

  • maybe you could help me with my macbook pro, having logic board problems

  • What problem are you having TREKOM..?

  • You said it yourself....I did not see any shot's of his ankles.

  • where do you get the straps?

  • I am a Apple certified service technician, so the ESD Equipment is supplied.. I would suggest that you could purchase this type of equipment at an Electronics store.. If in Australia, try a place like Dick Smith Electronics, if in the States, I am not sure what electronics stores you have.. But something the equivalent of Dick Smith would suffice.

  • thanks

  • Yeah and Elvis Lives! I've disassembled thousands of PC's and laptops in the last decade or so and never once had any such problems. Chips are shielded you know and short of rubbing it on your jeans, I can't see how you could ever X-ray your PCB in the fashion you describe. They used to say your face peeled off if you topped 20mph as well ..

Seriously. ESD discipline is nice, but if you aren't a numpty grounding yourself and tools before applying them is a simple enough habit to learn. ;)

  • Have you never seen training videos on correct handling of printed circuitry ? This has nothing to do with being a "numpty." It has everything to do with following correct procedure when it comes to taking care of PCB's. There is no tell-tale sign of whether the board has been compromised. This my friend is why the process is called Electro-Static Discharge Prevention. "I told you so, is too late." Let common sense prevail.

  • As an Apple Certified Tech cgavin, I can tell you that if we were not maintaining a proper level of ESD Prevention in our service department, Apple would close us down. Remember the old rubbing your feet on the carpet and then releasing the charge into your best friend sitting next to you...? Well that kind of charge is in your body all the time. If you don't equalize the electronic field around you, then that charge, however large or small is released into your PCB's, thus shortening its life.

  • You may not have had "any such problems" with your own experience, but I can absolutely guarantee you that your have shortened many a computer's lifetime through neglecting to follow this practice... Even if they have lasted for long periods of time, the reality is that they could have lasted longer.

  • Well I cannot but respect your efforts to justify your belief. I just consider ESD about on a par with with 'terrorist islamists' on the threat-o-meter. It could happen, then, so could being struck by lightening - a very effective form of ESD. I don't wear a body condom and a wrist band every time I go outside. Do you? Good practice is 90% ritual, I don't work on computers in a high static enviroment. I don't have carpets in the workshop and I must be sincere and say, I don't worry.

  • interesting, because i build pc's all the time (building a mac is a nightmare)

and i have never worn that bracelet.

its funny you think that, because most pc building instructions say that you can either ahve the bracelet, or touch the metal case once before you start to discharge into the casing.

i love the little elitist attitude you have going on there.

and, btw, nice try, you arent apple tech.

  • My MacBook's Logic Board had to be replaced. The sensor in the headphone port was faulty, so it was replaced by Apple.

  • omg thats the same thing that happened to mine. did u hav a red light coming out of ur headphone jack? my internal speakers didnt work and the only way to hear anything was through a headset

  • Smart kid who did that...

  • dude i cant get my keyboard up but im scared ill break it,its on pretty tight around the logicboard area

  • Do you know where I can buy a MacBook Pro logic board? I been search the web but nothing seem to be found at all? I think macBook pro are so rare that no body seem to selling part at all.

  • you guys are so stupid

  • Speaking as an Apple technician, I have to say, 1.5 hours is a really long time to replace a logic board for a MacBook. I guess filming this was all in fun and not as competitive as I make it out to be ;)

  • God... I sure hope she knows what shes doing... that would be an expensive mistae!

  • it's a he and I think he works for the apple store because of the shirt he is wearing. I know what I am doing and I dont even work at the apple store.

  • is the logic board like the mother board?

  • Different name, same part.

  • ooooooooooo! ok! thanks!

  • Apple used to split its motherboards into two parts; the logic board and the cpu board. When they merged the two in their newer computers, they kept the old name for some reason. I guess that's a bit of thinking different.

  • i guess so

  • yes

  • ice cube tray......brilliant

  • y did u need to replace the logic-board in the first place?

  • DAM that logic board is small compared to my hp and macbook pros logic boards that are twice the size.

  • How much did the new logic board cost you?

  • it was still under warranty, so the part was free!!

(otherwise the logic board runs for about $585)

  • Oh sweet deal. You're lucky Anthony was there.

  • found new one for 300 something at powerbook medics

  • Wow if that's at 3X speed then it only took about 7:36 in real time which is relatively fast for such a major task.

  • look to the right: original clip was 1.5 hrs.

as i've said before, this is NOT just a timelapse. several parts were clipped out/edited. notice the screws/tools magically appearing and moving?

  • i have the same problem need replacement is there anything else you need to do after putting it back together or is it just to turn it on?

  • how much would that cost?

  • The genius jus sat there and did that in front of you ?

  • the mac tech lives with me. :)

  • oh right, cause when i had the battery connector replaced on my macbook they took it in, it would have been interesting to watch them fiddle around on the insides

  • I take it, that is, this voids all your warrenties on your MacBook?

  • Actually, no. Anthony is a Mac-certified tech.

  • psh..I can do that too..

  • psh..only cos anthony was your sensei. ;)

  • Nice thanks, fixed my bluetooth with this video just wanted to make sure that I took out the right screws in the right order. Thanks.

  • could you replace the logic board of the older MacBook models with one from the new ones released today?

  • No because the very first macbooks had core duo processors while the new ones have core 2 duos and santa rosa etc

  • Hey, I have a Macbook Pro and I was wondering where can you buy a new logic board (motherboard). Because I need to replace mine as well. That is a cool and educational video. Thanks

  • Hi somebody spilled red wine on my macbook it is workinf fine but only when plugged into the power adaptor, do u reckon i should replace the logic board?

  • crazy

  • no ! get a new battery

  • i fi did that... i would probably have NO idea what i was doing. but good job. (:

  • using the ice cube molds as a part storage container is a genius idea.

  • whats the name of the song

  • DOA? I thought they had zero-DOA. At least none of the DOA leave the store, I'm being told.

This is going to give you some heavy flaming from the Apple-fans...

  • Pretty cool. I did the same thing with an older HP P4 laptop not long ago, except I used components from it to build a hybrid PC system and because of the low wattage and heat, I was able to overclock the shit out of it. :3

  • is there an URL with a step-by-step instruction how to open the 13" case?

  • yeah if you go to ifixit . com then click on guides they have a 13" macbook guide

  • I wouldn't dare take apart my MacBook! Cool video anyway.

  • Great music!

  • Nice video, nice editing, great music. Must've been scary to see your mac get taken apart :P

  • Awesome video. Great editing. Glad you got it working. Hope you enjoy your new MacBook!!

its timelaps not editing. this looks easy and it doesn't ven take that long about 4min?!

  • oh. i thought taking out parts was editing. notice how huge portions magically don't require any screws to put back together? that's me taking the boring parts out lol.

  • Thanks for sharing...nice music selection, and smooth transitions...seriously mad skills on that tech...i would compare him to a surgeon, or a conductor...great to see, "behind the curtain" so to speak...

  • thanks!

  • Dude, that was pretty neat, next time have the guy take it all apart including the HD and DVD drive, then put it back apart and turn it on and show it to us, but overall the guy has skill.

  • Which group / cd is the music from?

  • actually those are pretty heavy games lol. you can try loading windows on your macbook and playing them, but anthony doesn't think they'll run at a very good quality since they are so intensive. :(

  • you could of been a regular person and returned it.

  • aw but where's the fun in that? lol :D

  • you fool you voided your warrenty

  • actually anthony is an apple certified portable technician - so the warranty stands. :)

  • Ok well I have a ?, i was thinking about getting a macbook, but i play games, not heavy but light games, will the macbook be able to play games like the sims3, spore, M$ flight sim X, when they come out.

  • so i'm thinking i should re-film this including all the steps and showing that it works aftewards....ALL in one take. you up for it again, anthony? :D

  • Awesome video. Great editing. Glad you got it working. Hope you enjoy your new MacBook!!

  • cool! I Enjoyed This, In Fact Gonna Add To My Favs. I F**ked Up, I Should have bought one of these, but i bought a HP ZD8000. Good Machine, But Lacks Battery life & Gets Soooooo hot!!

  • did it work afterwards? ;)

  • yup - it's working perfectly now :)
