Since I'm not too confident when I'm playing guitar, I've been thinking of buying an electric guitar so I can play it unplugged (so it's quite while I'm practicing) and use the amp whenever. (I have an acoustic already and apparently it's really loud.)
But I'm stuck between the choice of a semi-hollow electric guitar to a solid body one.I normally play rock, and at other times blues and jazz.
@Bullethead1231 on electric guitar the strings are a little bit easier to press down but you will need an amplifier. best quality you could get for cheap is a fender squire strat with an amp from your local guitar center or whatever music store. acoustic guitar you would want to go to a guitar shop and try a few out to find out what you want. but you can get a good one for around 150 bucks
i wnt to learn an electric guitar but my sis bought me one semi electric acoustic guitar. now i am confused with that. will it b ok if i start with an acoustic guitar and later move to electric guitar. will learning an acoustic guitar help me more?

@nana35816 If you can go for an electric guitar first I would recommend it. As you said, the strings are thicker and the necks tend to be thicker on acoustic guitars (especially nylon strung ones), so if you have small fingers this would make it really hard work.
When you start playing the guitar, anything that makes life easier is good. You can always get an acoustic guitar with thicker strings later when your fingers have become stronger.
My dad gave me a classical guitar but I want to learn how to play solid electric eventually. I play the classical with a pick and I put what I think are steel and then nylon :/, but is it ok to transfer from the classical acoustic guitar to the solid electric guitar? Pls help me.
@gchguitaracademy yesterday i was in a store and found a folk nd it was cheap but ummmmm....ive found an electric guitar too ...but therezz a problem the storekeeper asked me to..... better purchase an acoustic one so now im confused :/ help !!please
@unknown4lifes It depends, do you want to play acoustic country and slow rock or electric. You might need to buy one style of guitar to learn on, and then later progress to both styles of guitar.
@mindlessboreden if you want to play pop and metal, then a stratocaster style guitar is probably for you. lots of pop guitarists play them for it's jangly, bright clean sound, and a lot of rock guitarists use them because it sounds great distorted. You can get tons of cheap strat copies. A squier stratocaster is a good thing to consider. Hope this helps.
its a matter of trying. I love spanish guitar. Its simplicity and rich sound.... and hate other acoustic guitars with metal strings. I like electric guitars... but just hollow and semi hollow bodies. I can play almost any style with my classical guitar except for heavy metal because of the sound it gives. Although its very hard -or impossible- to play some styles in electric guitar, like bossanova and flamenco. Anyway, this is just my opinion
@9Merijuana9 Your question is impossible to answer. . . The answer is different for everybody, the guitar for you depends on the style of music you want to learn and how much money you want to spend. However I can say this . . .don't spend a lot of money on your first guitar as about half of new guitarists give up.
@9Merijuana9 go with a starter kit before you invest i anything more expensive in most cases a 150 dollar fender star sounds the same as a 5000 dollar strat
@9Merijuana9 Make sure you buy a decent guitar! Cannot stress enough how a decent instrument is vital! If you buy a 50 dollar shitty Fender copy chances are you will give up because it will be horrible to play and wont sound any good. Whereas you spend 200 dollars on a squier stratocaster or an Epiphone or something, you will be far more inclined to play it because it is a qaulity instrument that will sound good.
@darkbladekiller7 Any solid bodied electric guitar would do the job, but humbucker pickups would be a bonus. The humbucker pickups produce more power which makes distortion more easily, but more importantly they reduce background noise (mains hum) which can be a problem with distortion and overdrive.
@recepesek Bob Marley used a Gibson Les Paul style guitar, but you can get a very similar style on most electric guitars. The reggae sound is more about technique than guitar, so you will have to do some tutorials and practise to get it sounding good.
@PiratePandasFly It would be unusual, but not impossible. Most hard rock is done with solid guitars, because with distortion (overdrive) semi-acoustic guitars tend to feedback.
I'm just starting out, but I'm looking for a semi-acoustic hollow body for blues and surf. I'm having trouble figuring out which guitars have the slimmest necks, I have very small hands and I'd like a comfortable fit. I haven't been able to find much information on this feature, any advice?
@servingofhumblepie What you have said is so true. Many of the guitar web sites don't give a good idea of the neck dimmensions and many guitar makers make the same style of guitar with neck variations. Because of this, the only way to be sure is to go around the guitar / music shops trying the various guitars until you find one you want. (inconvenient but essential)
A guitar is much Like a woman. You have to hold her in your arms. You have to love her. If she feels right, then she's the one for you. You have to show her lots if attention and take great care of her.. If she becomes warped or twisted, you can remove her neck...
@jigsawnanda Oasis/Radioheadish . . difficult one. Both radiohead and oasis tend to use vintage guitars (old, not the make). And they tend to change guitars. But the sounds they use can be similar. You could probably get close with any cheap electric guitar, but you would be wise saving your money for an effects unit. Something like a V-amp or a pocket pod, then you will be able to make your guitar sound like most guitars.
This is likely fairly useless feedback but I had to say that is one of the most sweet pick designs I've ever seen... your own coat of arms!!! I wish I had one of those picks...
Super guitar noob here, I only play for recreation, just something to do when I'm bored. What guitar can I buy that will play acoustically, but will play electrically when plugged into an amp?
@carsismeZ06 All guitars will play acoustically, but it depends how load you want it. For use in a quite house any guitar will do, but the loudest acoustically would be the electro-acoustic. It also depends on how you want the guitar to sound when electric, because an electro-acoustic guitar amplifies but doesn't sound like an electric guitar.
Really, you need to decide which is most important electric or acoustic, because no guitar does both really well.
get a G and L semi hollow telecaster style guitar, the tribute series are value for money and have a wide range of sounds, with jazz warmth and ice pick rock and much tonal range in between.
@DBZKRN Any solid electric guitar with humbuckers would be good, but I recommend you look at what the artists you like use and choose a similar guitar.
I have a question: what type of guitar would be best to learn how to play guitar? I've never done it before. I'm sure I dont want to play electric guitar, I'm trying to choose between classical or accoustic! I hope someone can help me. Thanks!
@W3NDY23 I personally find that acoustic has a nicer sound than classical, it is also easier to play and can play a wider range of songs effectively. The classical guitar is slightly more selective in its capibilities, but not a 'lesser' guitar by any means. Hope this helps.
@W3NDY23 Well it depends, if you want to play fingerpick songs get classical, Want to train your fingers and play everything get acoustic, it's going to be more tough though.
i have a classical guitar, an dreadnought guitar and an electric guitar, do you think its worthy do still buy a semi-acoustic guitar? if my intention is to play a lot of different types of music, but mostly leaning towards soft-rock...?
@taariqtaariq thanx, but do you know if Epiphone or Jack and Danny Brothers semi-acoustic guitars are good at a price range of about 200 to 300 euros (thats about 260 to 390 dollars) ...?
epiphone are crap.I have never heard of the 'brothers' guitars. Look up the Ibanez art core range on their web site and then compare them with semi hollow teles by G and L on their web site, esp. the 'tribute' range. I am semi professional musician with 3 albums to my name. There are no savings to be made buying cheap and nasty instruments. You can't polish a turd!.
@bristirdude heehehhee, on a zappa vid. a fan gives one of zappa's band members a perfectly rounded polished turd in a jar with no fingerprints on it!!!. It is fairly mature humour, I am not sure you'd get it ;-P.
epiphone semi acoustic guitars are not anywhere near as good as an Ibanez AS73 , and once you put SD zebra humbuckers into AS73 that you have an ES335 without the Gibson price.Respectfully yours, Taariq the guitar addict.
@leuwenharty get a G and L semi hollow telecaster style guitar, the tribute series are value for money and have a wide range of sounds, with jazz warmth and ice pick rock and much tonal range in between.
@parkourer100 A good ska sound, depends on the guitarist not the guitar. You have to get good at muting straight away so the the chord makes a 'chack' sound. I personally prefer a Fender strat style guitar, because the sound is thinner and has more treble. However, most ska players use Les Paul style guitars, because the humbucker pickup can produce a sound with a little edge (kind of distorted, but not). So I would recommend getting the technique first and then trying both syles of guitar.
@DiezBand get a G and L semi hollow telecaster style guitar, the tribute series are value for money and have a wide range of sounds, with jazz warmth and ice pick rock and much tonal range in between.
@TheClumsyOne84 A hard question to answer . . Indie musicians use virtually every guitar on the market, but there does seem to be a preference towards the Gibson Les Paul style guitar. They look and sound the part.
@kaisariani One of the classic styles of guitar would probably be best. For example Gibson Les Paul or Fender Strat style. It really depends what band or guitarist you would like to sound like.
@kaisariani Ahhh, It might be nice for you to get a semi-acoustic guitar like a Gibson 355 copy or a Gretch copy. One of the guitars pictured in the video is a Shine semi-acoustic which was a reasonable price but looks and sounds great for early rock.
Generally speaking, semi-acoustic guitars are more expensive than solid bodied guitars because they are harder to construct.
Im looking for a first electric guitar. I have a bit of money, so i can afford a decent one, but i would like to know a very good electric that has a humbucker, and is not too expensive. Can someone sugest a few good, but cheaper brands?
@sUjU91 If you have really small fingers, electric guitars have narrower neck compared to most acoustics, and Les Paul style guitars tend to have smaller frets. There are lots of cheap Les Pauls copies, so I suggest to go to your local music shop(s) and try a couple to see what you think.
It is what you like. Anyone who tells you which to get is telling you what they would get. You must have your own goals, so buy according to what you want.
kewl thanx kause my dad idk he says t0 get an ac0ustic t0 get started 0f u n0e like da basic stuff but then hes n0t a guitar expert. . and what kinda guitar d0 the red h0t chili peppers g0t i want that style and als0 s0mething like nirvana s0mething that kan play lyke b0ut everything a wide veriety
The Red hot chilli peppers guitarist uses mainly a Fender strat style guitar and Nirvana use Fender Style guitars (Jaguar / Mustang). But the most available and cheap one to get is the Strat style guitar which nearly every music shop in the world sell, and they can play most styles nicely.
wich ones is better to start off. . i realley want to noe how to play the guitar is it better to start with an acoustic and then go to an electric guitar
Personally, Im a telecaster player because it has a huge range. You can play a lot of genres; blues, country, rock, etc..Andy Summers (The Police) and Joe Strummer (Clash) used telecasters, and even have signature models. They are inexpensive as well. Hope this helps.
Semi-acoustics sound very different to an acoustic. The closest you can get to an acoustic sound with pickups is an electro-acoustic, but this sounds very different to an electric.
In other words, a semi-acoustic can sound like an electric but not an acoustic and an electro-acoustic can sound like an acoustic but not at electric.
Well an acoutsic electric is an acoustic guitar that also has a soap bar pickup which gives it the capability to be plugged into an amp but it has a very nice volume of a regular acoustic by itself. now if u were refering to a semi hollow then yes they deffinitly need an amp.
no thats mainly for if you are recording a song or playing a gig somewhere. if you have just an original acoustic you can put pickups inside the soundhole or put a mic in front of the guitar
Yes . . . it is possible to make and electro acoustic sound distorted using and amp with distortion or and effects pedal, however it has a unique sound which is different to an electric guitar and it can be difficult to control feedback.
yea, i do tha same thing, i have a 1977 gibson es-335 all u realy have to do is replace the pickups, to something like emg or seymour duncan, if the pots for the volume and tone controle are a little weaker, just upgrade to 500 pots, and then if u run through effects, then just make sure to put a noise gate at the end of the chain, and there shouldent be much feedback.
is an acoustic and electro-acoustic guitar when played are the same??................ and electro-acoustic guitar when used is like an classic accoustic right???
The electro-acoustic guitar is an acoustic guitar with the addition of a pickup so it can be amplified. It should play the same as an acoustic guitar.
I whant an electric guitar, but my mum says that it is not for beginners, but I realy, dont whant an accoustick. Also, my mum says that electris are expensive. Find an excuse to get me out of this?
You got both your mom and you satisfied as you can plug in an amplifier...then, after half a year or more you can ask her to get you an electric guitar! Electroacousti is kinda as expensive as acoustic but it is quite harder to learn than the electric guitar...
there isn't an excuse, acoustics are highly recommended for a beginner. it builds finger strength and you will be a better electric guitar player later on in your music career
Hi. I need help choosing a solid body guitar. My budget is around $300 Canadian dollars and I'm a begginer (can play fat lip by sum 41 one step closer by linkin park, before I forget by slipknot). I already know that ibanez is a good brand for these type of music. Can you help me (not only the brand but model) and please be honest.

nana35816 5 months ago
@nana35816 An acoustic guitar is good to get started on.
You can move on to a solid bodied electric guitar later,
and by then you will have a good idea of the basics.
It is not better to start on an acoustic and move on to electric later,
but it is not worse either. All the important stuff is the same on both
instruments, the chords the scales etc.

@taariqtaariq actually you can polish a turd, they did it on mythbusters haha
bristirdude 1 year ago
@bristirdude heehehhee, on a zappa vid. a fan gives one of zappa's band members a perfectly rounded polished turd in a jar with no fingerprints on it!!!. It is fairly mature humour, I am not sure you'd get it ;-P.
taariqtaariq 1 year ago
@leuwenharty the epiphone dot semi-hollow is about 400 dollars so pretty close to your price range
bristirdude 1 year ago
@leuwenharty
epiphone semi acoustic guitars are not anywhere near as good as an Ibanez AS73 , and once you put SD zebra humbuckers into AS73 that you have an ES335 without the Gibson price.Respectfully yours, Taariq the guitar addict.

@leuwenharty get a G and L semi hollow telecaster style guitar, the tribute series are value for money and have a wide range of sounds, with jazz warmth and ice pick rock and much tonal range in between.

what do you recomend for ska music?
parkourer100 1 year ago
@parkourer100 A good ska sound, depends on the guitarist not the guitar. You have to get good at muting straight away so the the chord makes a 'chack' sound. I personally prefer a Fender strat style guitar, because the sound is thinner and has more treble. However, most ska players use Les Paul style guitars, because the humbucker pickup can produce a sound with a little edge (kind of distorted, but not). So I would recommend getting the technique first and then trying both syles of guitar.
gchguitaracademy 1 year ago
@parkourer100 a Telecaster will give you a good Ska sound

what guitar would be best for alternative rock or indie music?
TheClumsyOne84 1 year ago
@TheClumsyOne84 A hard question to answer . . Indie musicians use virtually every guitar on the market, but there does seem to be a preference towards the Gibson Les Paul style guitar. They look and sound the part.
gchguitaracademy 1 year ago
thank you!!! very helpful.
but i have a question
i like to play hard rock/metal.
for example: scorpions, metallica edguy. mostly scorpions. i wouldn;t like to go more than $450 and i dont mind changing the pickups
what electric guitar suits me?
MrRichard911 1 year ago
@MrRichard911
A Fender Strat or Gibson Les Paul would be a safe bet, but you should check out Jackson, Ibanez, and PRS guitars as well

what type of guitar is better for classic rock music, not hard rock or metal?i have no idea of electric guitars i have one spanish guitar
kaisariani 1 year ago
@kaisariani One of the classic styles of guitar would probably be best. For example Gibson Les Paul or Fender Strat style. It really depends what band or guitarist you would like to sound like.
gchguitaracademy 1 year ago
@gchguitaracademy thanks i like mainly beatles and some classic rock stuff like chuck berry, what is your suggestion?
kaisariani 1 year ago
@kaisariani Ahhh, It might be nice for you to get a semi-acoustic guitar like a Gibson 355 copy or a Gretch copy. One of the guitars pictured in the video is a Shine semi-acoustic which was a reasonable price but looks and sounds great for early rock.
Generally speaking, semi-acoustic guitars are more expensive than solid bodied guitars because they are harder to construct.

what is that epiphone guitar at 4:20
Rayman400 1 year ago
@Rayman400 The Epiphone is a sheraton, which was made in the 80's. But I think they still make them. It is a copy of a Gibson 335

I have small hands (fingers) is there any advice you can give me before buying a guitar?...
sUjU91 1 year ago
@sUjU91 If you have really small fingers, electric guitars have narrower neck compared to most acoustics, and Les Paul style guitars tend to have smaller frets. There are lots of cheap Les Pauls copies, so I suggest to go to your local music shop(s) and try a couple to see what you think.
gchguitaracademy 1 year ago
is there a guitar that can join the purposes of those 5 guitars? seriously/.
masterlei03 2 years ago
No, not perfectly.
But, an electric guitar and a good processor can sound more or less like everything. A POD or a ZOOM or a V-Amp can make a huge selection of sounds.
gchguitaracademy 2 years ago
i'm planning to get a guitar and i am kinda lost on what to get apx500 (acoustic) or pac012(electric) can you help me? thanks
garryza 1 year ago
It is what you like. Anyone who tells you which to get is telling you what they would get. You must have your own goals, so buy according to what you want.
gchguitaracademy 1 year ago
haha. sounds a lot of money too right? =) thanks
masterlei03 1 year ago
The V-amp is the cheapest (about £50 on Ebay). I got one second hand for £25

0h. . i see and als0 ive seen many lyke extras dist0rsion pedals and stuff d0 u need th0s 0r is it kewl just with an amplifier
funclass09 2 years ago
You can get the extras in the future, it is a waist of money when you just start. All you need to start is a guitar.
gchguitaracademy 1 year ago
wats a strat style haha i ask t00 much but hey im a beginer well n0t even a beginer i still d0nt even have a guitar
funclass09 2 years ago
A strat style guitar is a 'Fender Stratocaster copy', every music shop will know what you mean if you ask to see one, or better still, search google.
gchguitaracademy 2 years ago
kewl thanx kause my dad idk he says t0 get an ac0ustic t0 get started 0f u n0e like da basic stuff but then hes n0t a guitar expert. . and what kinda guitar d0 the red h0t chili peppers g0t i want that style and als0 s0mething like nirvana s0mething that kan play lyke b0ut everything a wide veriety
funclass09 2 years ago
The Red hot chilli peppers guitarist uses mainly a Fender strat style guitar and Nirvana use Fender Style guitars (Jaguar / Mustang). But the most available and cheap one to get is the Strat style guitar which nearly every music shop in the world sell, and they can play most styles nicely.
gchguitaracademy 2 years ago
wich ones is better to start off. . i realley want to noe how to play the guitar is it better to start with an acoustic and then go to an electric guitar
funclass09 2 years ago
It is better to start on the type of guitar you want. There is no advantage in buying an acoustic guitar if you want to learn electric.

Personally, Im a telecaster player because it has a huge range. You can play a lot of genres; blues, country, rock, etc..Andy Summers (The Police) and Joe Strummer (Clash) used telecasters, and even have signature models. They are inexpensive as well. Hope this helps.
Riyach 2 years ago
Telecasters in general are inexpensive. Signature models can be pricy. I had to make this clear.

Can you still play a semi-acoustic as an acoustic? or do they sound totally different?
ConorLovesChelsea 2 years ago
Semi-acoustics sound very different to an acoustic. The closest you can get to an acoustic sound with pickups is an electro-acoustic, but this sounds very different to an electric.
In other words, a semi-acoustic can sound like an electric but not an acoustic and an electro-acoustic can sound like an acoustic but not at electric.

If i were to get an Acousitic electric guitar, do i need to get an amp?
asweetcakes 2 years ago
Sorry there is no such thing as an acoustic electric guitar. Do you mean electro-acoustic ? ? if you do then no you don't.
gchguitaracademy 2 years ago
Well an acoutsic electric is an acoustic guitar that also has a soap bar pickup which gives it the capability to be plugged into an amp but it has a very nice volume of a regular acoustic by itself. now if u were refering to a semi hollow then yes they deffinitly need an amp.
arpboy10 2 years ago
no thats mainly for if you are recording a song or playing a gig somewhere. if you have just an original acoustic you can put pickups inside the soundhole or put a mic in front of the guitar
codyjt5150 2 years ago

ok ive can on electric guitra ive been playing for about 1 year and im good at it but i want a semiacoustic guitar this look stunning !!
but im a heavy metal fan.... is it possible to make it sosund distorted if i use the amp in some way please reply
homerhuntley 2 years ago
Yes . . . it is possible to make and electro acoustic sound distorted using and amp with distortion or and effects pedal, however it has a unique sound which is different to an electric guitar and it can be difficult to control feedback.
gchguitaracademy 2 years ago
thanks =D

search for jazz guitars..
with this i mean for example the Gibson L5/L7
cheaper ones are maybe the Epiphone Ebony
Or richwood "superswinger"re 335
or other RE series..
check them out..
i'd recomment using a footswitch of choise for the effect..
try some out

don't worry , ted nugent used to play a Byrdland guitar, a real hollowbody jazz guitar and he used it for insane rock.
taariqtaariq 1 year ago
yea, i do tha same thing, i have a 1977 gibson es-335 all u realy have to do is replace the pickups, to something like emg or seymour duncan, if the pots for the volume and tone controle are a little weaker, just upgrade to 500 pots, and then if u run through effects, then just make sure to put a noise gate at the end of the chain, and there shouldent be much feedback.

is an acoustic and electro-acoustic guitar when played are the same??................ and electro-acoustic guitar when used is like an classic accoustic right???
jairz4ever 2 years ago
Yes . . . .
The electro-acoustic guitar is an acoustic guitar with the addition of a pickup so it can be amplified. It should play the same as an acoustic guitar.
gchguitaracademy 2 years ago
I whant an electric guitar, but my mum says that it is not for beginners, but I realy, dont whant an accoustick. Also, my mum says that electris are expensive. Find an excuse to get me out of this?
felix402 2 years ago
Buy an electroacoustic guitar :D
You got both your mom and you satisfied as you can plug in an amplifier...then, after half a year or more you can ask her to get you an electric guitar! Electroacousti is kinda as expensive as acoustic but it is quite harder to learn than the electric guitar...
M3njim 2 years ago
She's right. An electric guitar is much harder to start with than an acoustic one.
teh1owner 2 years ago
there isn't an excuse, acoustics are highly recommended for a beginner. it builds finger strength and you will be a better electric guitar player later on in your music career
golden1324 2 years ago
NOT TRUE . . . .
Strength does not aid speed and / or accuracy, which are far more important.
Concentrating on building up strength can damage your agility on the guitar.
gchguitaracademy 2 years ago
I've got both guitars, electric is more easy to learn if you wanna play pop songs and harder stuff, it's not harder than acoustic!!!
tosti1122 2 years ago
hey, in my guitar center.. he just started today ... but he bought someelectric guitar that cost about $300
or you can buy like me ?? an electric/acoustic guitar
you can plug it in and also play it like acoustic ^^ :D
