  • WE SHALL RETURN> AFTER A WORD..FORM OUR SPONSOR!!!

    XD Friggin hillarious!

  • OMG, i have this on her FOR THE RECORD cd set in my car!!!! So happy to see the vid!!!

  • When I was a kid my dad listened to Barba often. She is the original Jenny from the block. A girl from Brooklyn that is. Super talent.

  • Love seeing these "discovery" videos of Barbra. Witnessing the eruption of the world's newest volcano. Garry Moore didn't even pronounce "Streisand" correctly.

  • What 21 year old sings these songs today? No one. It was a wonderfully different and better world.

  • "I have a dramatic speech prepared!! Ladies and gentlemen.... hehe." I LUV HER

  • Im 21 yrs old and this Legend can sing her butt off!!!

  • I love her.

  • There is something so intensely sexual about this performance. It's like she's performing "the act" itself from beginning to end. It's that yearning and satisfaction she's communicating throught the song.

    that she's communicating through song.

  • I do love her. hecko. Is there anyone better?

  • @zzyyxxo

No, and there never will be...she is the greatest star I had the pleasure to be around at the Oscars several times...

I have never seen such respect for any star in all my years in Hollywood...she is Magicical to be in her presence...

    ~MM~

  • pure talent..to this day can not be matched.

    her voice is astounding.

  • All the 20 year old stars of today can learn a lot from Barbra, this is how you start out a career!

  • Holy crap....she did a 2 octave jump on the last note! That's awesome!

  • they sure don't sing like they used to

  • @ChrisMagoo99 she doesn't / can't sing like this any more either...

  • @monnfair well, yeah, but she's 68 years old now. Hardly fair to mention that, lol

  • Love early Barbra!!

  • When the sun comes out!! that sun was herself!!

  • the applause just would not stop :)

  • Gary seems nelly.

    Was Gary a homosexual?

  • Quite simply she is to female singers what the Beatles are to rock bands.

  • Wow and that was even before she perfected her style

  • Oh my God!Amazing! She is the greatest there ever was and ever will be.You can talk Fitzgerald,Garland, and Vaughn all you want but can they do this?No they can't.They cannot do what Barbra does. She is the best.

  • I love this song and I was hoping that her current CD "Love Is The Answer" was going to contain songs like this.

But it was too mellow for me.

  • @Sox575 the older she is the more mellow she is.

  • LOL>..that's awesome...I'd never seen the ending part....also interesting is the orchestration.

  • Alguien sabe si hay alguna grabacion en audio de esta cancion?

  • Look at the other video of her singing this - it EVEN BETTER - much better as she's more herself.

  • What a find is this video. Mucho mucho thanks.

  • dear god...that was awesome.

    entrancing voice

  • she doesnt have any peers

  • wHEN THE SUN COMES OUT!!......

te amo barbra!!----ojala vengas a argentina alguna vez!!

  • Hmmmm....at 15 I was certainly an admirer when she meteored across the NY skies in 1961-62. But lung power has little to do with art. Merman had that too. She was a unique and great talent but no Ella or Billie or Sarah. Judy was Judy. None can be compared. --> huh? Barbra is the most effortless singer ever.

  • She's not gawky!! She was just a girl back then! What other teenager do you know who would ever be capable to do a performance like this?

  • was referring to her boniness, no curves, i didn't say she was untalented!!!!

  • how did she go from gawky here to chic in the mid 60s, in such a short time?

  • she was sooooo pritty i love her nose. :)

  • Hmmmm....at 15 I was certainly an admirer when she meteored across the NY skies in 1961-62. But lung power has little to do with art. Merman had that too. She was a unique and great talent but no Ella or Billie or Sarah. Judy was Judy. None can be compared.

  • It's all in where your standards lie, to me none surpasses Barbra.

  • Wow...she was so vivacious and fun and youthful. What a shame that most of her adult life turned out to be such an emotional basketcase. That voice in a different body (brain) would have made for the greatest performer in our lifetime.

  • lookmomitsme1: Barbra voice enjoyed 18 years of total peak 1962 to 1980 , this is very long for a singer.I admit that after 1980 Barbra voice declined a lot (and her career as well),...

  • @vergoti20 after 1980 her voice declined? r u crazy? Barbra did Yental in 83 and it was the most amazing singing she has ever done. maybe your eyes where full of wax.

  • @kyolym :No kyolym, '83 Yentl is NOT the most amazing singing she has done at all.If you want to listen Barbra voice at her very peak listen her middle '60s albums , by middle '70s she started to scream a bit but her sound was still great her '80 album with Andy Gibb.(Even her very last good album is '84 Emotion) BUT since 1986 her vocal decline was very sad.On her '86 concert "One voice" her voice is SO little, she was finished in 1986 at 44

  • @vergoti20 she was screaming? oh yeah the most natural flowing voice of this century. Talk about something you know something about

  • @vergoti20 devi scusare vergoti kyolym ... mi sembra che il suo opinione (per lui) è il solo opinione guisto. ... è un italiano e non sa niente di cantante americana. And yes. Yentl was easily some of Streisand's best singing. Her voice had a maturity and excellence that it lacked in the 60s and when she did those dreadful pop songs in the 70s.

  • @Shubael1809 : I apologize if my english is not perfect but you will understand what I mean. In your country there have been great singers that their voices remained almost the same or even improved with the years like for example Sarah Vaughan (whose voice was even bigger in the '70s or '80s than in the '50s !) but

  • @vergoti20 non mi piace Sarah Vaughan. Ecco è la mia opinione. Simplicemente vergoti? Non siamo d'accordo.

  • @vergoti20 : You have the right you don't like Vaughan, I was not talking about taste, I was talking about the size of the voices, the sound, the vocal health and preservation.

Aretha Franklyn in my humble opinion had the greatest voice, the biggest one too but I accept that Aretha also lost her voice in around early '90s ? or even in late '80s.The records speak by tthemselves

  • @vergoti20 punto e basta! NON SONO D'ACCORDO ... le tue parole sono inutili

  • @Shubael1809 :BUT anybody who knows little about singing can notice how Barbra voice lost sound since around middle '80s , in her '86 concert "One voice" the voice was totally gone AND all the albums she recorded in the '90s she sang with a microphone in her molar tooth. Her '90s "live" comeback the voice was very very dwarfed, very little and she had to transpose everything.Shubael1809 I understand you love Barbra but

  • @Shubael1809 : You cannot face a sad decline in Barbra career ? She was a NRO 1 in Hollywood in the '70s, expensive and ambitious film produccion, What's up Doc ? opossite Ryan O'Neal, "The way we were" with Robert Redford, Oscar nominations, etc, etc, always in the top ten at the box office, etc.

What happened to Barbra career after Yentl ? She was almost finished after middle '80s, She was a superstar in the '60s and '70s but she didn't last long like Meryl Streep or Catherine Deneuve or etc

  • @vergoti20 It's not that I cannot accept things. I just won't tolerate your misconception. Secondo me, non hai ragione.

  • @Shubael1809 : You listen for example late Donna Summer (in late '90s for example) and the voice was still there, Donna voice lasted.

Barbra voice declined very much after Yentl and collapsed shortly after that. I don't know why because she had a very good technique.

For instance . Play Ethel Merman last years, in the late '70s , Merman was 70 ! and the voice remained huge (I am not crazy about Ethel Merman but it's only to compare),

  • @Shubael1809 :Finally play Barbra in around 1997,she was 55, 15 years younger than Merman in 1979 and Barbra voice was so little at that time.....

  • In spite Barbra voice is very little today, she looks decent at 66.

Vulgar and coarse Madonna is finished at 50 !

We will never see stars like Streisand anymore

  • fucking fabulous. she was 20 years old people....the epitome of "natural born talent". i am fan for life --- love you barbra!!

  • @GinaMarie1982 she was 19

  • @TheJessiePineapple no, she was indeed 20. The show was filmed on May 29, 1962.

  • @romerofosho - thank you for clarifying that for JessiePineapple :)

  • @GinaMarie1982 when her first couple of albums came out in the early 60's barbra's voice & aura was something no one had ever encountered before. her music took us to a new place we had never experienced, & it was wonderful.

i don't know if she ever realized just how special her voice & persona was & would become. to this day those albums strike an uncompromising memory & mood in me that'll never go away.

like judy garland, barbra is a one of a kind woman blessed with more talent imaginable.

  • @GinaMarie1982 19 years old

  • After Streisand, singing became yelling.

  • very true! she is the only one able to hit high notes with power WITHOUT yelling!

  • I agree! There is a big difference between screaming and belting out a song. But then again look a who she had to compete with at that time. Deanna Durbin the fourteen year old opera singer and Judy who had her own special talent. There must have been something in the water back then to produce all of those girls at once.

  • ella and billie are good, garland is amazing too! but to me Barbra is the best female singer of all times, just watch her live perfomances and you will notice that on almost all of her songs she holds a note no shorter than 8 secs! ive seen her hold notes 4 20 freakin seconds! Ive never seen or heard those other female performers do that here on youtube, to behold the magnitude and power she has over these great ladies, i challenge u to look up Barbra the concert People 1994 las vegas, peerless!

  • Ever tried Umm Kulthum ?

  • Love her end note. And her dramatic speech.

  • I so remember this! Can't believe there is a video; thank you so much!

  • the song came out the year i was born

  • I must have this dress.

  • Wow! She could really sing. Sometimes we forget, since she's become such a famous figure, that a great talent supported her idiosyncrasies.

  • As I stated in an earlier comment....Barbra is one of the best singers ever! Wish we could see these all cleaned up and on DVD but for now they are still a real treat.

  • Barbra has one of the best voices ever, but decidedly is not one of the best singers ever. A singers only task is to convey the meaning of the lyric through mrlody. Bargra never considers the song's meaning. She doesn't need to. Her voice carries her, sometimes distorting. Ella Fitzgerald. Billie Holiday, Judy Garland are better singers.

  • What do you mean, "never considers the song's meaning"?

  • Well, there are many ways of lamenting a lost love...it can be a "quiet lament", or it can be a scream of anguish and/or anger. My criticism of this arrangement is that the tempo is too choppy, and the horns intrude on the vocals. Her voice, and the intensity of interpretation match the lyrics perfectly.

  • This was the original arrangement from the show "Fantastics" a big hit then and ran for 42 years. It was the sound of the day and meant to do that. Especially as she had the voice that could not be drowned out.

  • "This was the original arrangement from the show "Fantastics""

Huh? What are you talkinga about? She's singing "When the Sun Comes Out"

  • I agree with you on this but don't forget to ad Sarah Vaughn and Lena Horne

  • I just remember that what I initially loved about her--besides her obvious talent and moxie--was her original unpretentiousness.

  • Okay. Ella Fitzgerald was a high achiever with that gift, too, but she didn't become annoyingly pretentious, like anyone who gets addressed with a "La" before her name.

  • This is Barbra at her best: in the 60's, before she got involved w/Jon Peters, before she felt she had to be "perfect".

  • she thought she had to be "a perfectionist" long before that it started in early childhood. Her stepfather never spoke to her when she was a small child and totally ignored her so she tried to make up for it by being a good little girl and that carried over into adulthood and never feeling good enough. Hence, a prefectionist. On the upside it made her into a high achiever and with the gift of a absolutely fantastic voice.

  • What does this chat have to do with Bahh-bara? Did I miss something? Speaking of homo her son is Gay and doing very well..

  • Sexuality is an physical expression of a spiritual reality(a sacrament if you like). If the spiritual reality isn't there then the sexual expression is a lie. Are you oblivious to the way sexuality is treated like garbage in our culture (on the internet for example?). I wish you healing.

  • Baby, your Church has attacked, burned and humiliated us for centuries. You know what you can do with your grace-filled Christmas, Father!

  • rough diamond!

  • Don't people on here know how to communicate without using the "s" and "f" words? I am really worried about the way our culture is going.

  • catholicpriest1--I heartily agree. If certain four-letter words were eliminated from the English language, many people would be rendered mute. Shameful.

  • what about the "m" word? (molester?) and your homophobic, hypocritical catholic culture?

  • Molesters come from all segments of society, and all religious groups...the Catholic Church just gets more publicity...and lawyers go after the Church's "deep pockets".

  • More publicity because no one is as nasty about regulating human sexuality as the catholic church. And no one worries about the cc going broke.

  • gabsylv, Some dioceses have gone "broke". Several have declared bankrupcy. I have given my whole life to the service of the Church. I was just making a statement about the way our culture is going. Thank God that the Catholic Church stands up for the sanctity of human life and the sacredness of sexuality. The gift of sexuality is treated by our culture as a commodity and human persons are treated as mere objects.

  • Guffaw! Sacredness of **WHOSE** sexuality? I have spent MY whole life recovering from your church's moral fascism. You've given your whole life to an ideological sewer. And with that I rest my homosexual case.

  • holy shit, that was like a very different girl. stunning

  • As always, I love a good full chest singin' legend... but I prefer the 1965 taped version of this, it better employs La Streisand's use of vocal dynamic...

  • amazing voice for a 19 year old!

  • Thanks for sharing this very rare TV footage. By comparing this TV clip with her first TV special, "My Name is Barbra," you can appreciate the fact that she transformed her image in a very short period of time in order to broaden her appeal to a wider television, e.g. hair, clothes, gestures, make-up, etc. Yes! The arrangement is excellent. I wouldn't be surprise if arranger/conductor Peter Matz and studio musicians from Columbia Records were brought in serve as Barbra's make-up band.

  • AFTER A WORD FROM OUR SPONSERS!!!!! haha i love this woman!

  • shes hott. no joke.

  • She is so comfortable, so relaxed and having so much fun.

  • She's so beautiful.

  • She is adoreable, as always :D

  • Brilliant performance.

  • WHOA! thank you soo much for sharing this clip! I have Barbra's Just For the Record CD, with this song on it but I've never seen the vid. Is this available to buy anywhere?

  • Who's orchestra was Garry Moore's... Damn what a hot arrangement, screw how wonderful Barbra [sic] is...

  • This was one of her first prime-time appearances on network television. And when Keefe Brasselle temporarily replaced Garry in the summer of 1963, his first telecast also featured Barbara as a guest star...

  • Barbra is one of my fav artist of all time. thank u SOOO much for uploading this rare and miraculously brilliant footage of her. she IS an inspiration to me - a day without barbra is like a day without sunshine. so grateful!

  • Her voice only declined with time - what a shame

  • 19 years old? damn Babs.

  • Love the set! Do you think Barbra picked the props in the background?
