Hitler was not democratically elected. He never got more than 37% of the vote. He was appointed Chancellor by HIndenberg. The rules under the Weimar Republic were very different than the rules today.

Even with the added troops McCrystal told the US to brace for casualties because of what the troops surge meant. They were progressives who launched muckraking to clean up the corporate systems of America that had a stranglehold on the nation during the Gilded Age (post-Reconstruction but pre-1900s). Or how about Lincoln? He suspended habeas corpus and had political dissidents arrested and more or less declared martial law in areas of the country when things didn't go his way.

And the opposition among the 63 percent against him was generally quite strong. Hitler therefore would have never seen the light of day had the German Republic been truly democratic.

The Nazi party after the elections was roughly 20% making it the 2nd largest party in Germany besides the Social Democratic Party. The jump from roughly 2% support shortly after the failed revolution to 20% in less than a decade is not trivial. The opposition also wasnt as strong as you suggest. The opposing parties were strongly nationalist in nature mostly.

The ONLY reason why the US government didnt leap into the war ASAP with Britain and France was because US public sentiment was STRONGLY opposed to the idea of war. Period. I did read his autobiography and I consider myself to be a fairly reasonable person who is curious about this new president and I did not come away with the feeling that he is a 'racialist' at all. In fact some of the chapters were incredibly well thought out and very hopeful showing a very solid hold on what can be very convoluted political processes. Anyway, Anne Coulter is fame-junkie and a narcissist and you know those sort of folks ultimately hate themselves.

I agree, Germany declared war on USA after the Pacific War started so Hitler could help his ally, Japan. Possibly the biggest mistake he did in the war. But seriously, there was no reason on our part to enter the war before that. Even if we didn't like Hitler, war is a waste of lives and ressourses, until then WWII was strictly a European conflict (until then Hitler had no intention of attacking us), and the people were against it. Why go?
