The song is basically ridiculing the so called "freedom and independence" that India keeps celebrating every year. This movie was released on the 50th year of India's Independence.

The poet's overall anguish is about how everyone happily ignores all the ills in the society but aid to corruption. The song was more of a communist/socialist sympathising one. But the so called "naxals" don't have a clue what they are doing except destroying public property.
