good question. Obviously, Blu Ray is new tech since I've moved to Japan, so I have no real experience with it. It just started being offered widely over here - my local video store rents about 100 titles - within the past year, and I didn't want to invest until I return to America. I'm eager to check it out - I've never seen a movie on Blu Ray yet.
Yeah - I really want to see it, but it might be one of those films that I end up missing, since it's out now in the US but probably won't be released here in Japan before I leave in August.
yeah - Spike is the man! I was completely blown away the first time I saw "Do The Right Thing" and that film still rocks my socks each time I see it. I have a fantastic Criterion Laserdisc of it with oodles of cool extras. But I also love his more comedic side, like the Mars Blackman character from "She's Gotta Have It."
Flynn's "Robin Hood" is indeed great. But I can't stand it in color. I always turn the TV set to b/w. It's classier that way. :-)
"American Werewolf" is not really comedic... there are a few jokes, but funny elements are not as obvious, or important, than in "House" (1986), which was great on that behalf.
Don't feel bad about going off on a tangent. They're usually very interesting, let alone give me some "useless" knowledge I would never have known. I love all those little facts, keep up the great videos.
Slumdog Millionaire was rated like 3rd best movie to come out in 2008. Depends where ya look, but apparently it's awesome. I had never heard of the movie until I started looking up the top 50 movies of 2008 and it was there.
The Evil Dead Trilogy is the best. American Werewolf in London has a great soundtrack.
Three movies that you didn't mention that you need to see if you haven't seen them are Boondock Saints (Willem Dafoe), Battle Royale (Tatsuya Fujiwara), and Bringing Out the Dead (stars Nicolas Cage).
Fujiwara, also played Light Yagami in the live action Death Note movies which I can't recommend enough.
I haven't seen the Nic Cage film - but I'll give it a try. I've seen the other two - I enjoyed Battle Royale, but I enjoyed the book more (in an English translation).
I'd like to see the Death Note movies, but here in Japan the DVDs don't have English subtitles.
The evil dead series and big trouble in little china are awesome, liking you more and more Jason. :P If you haven't already you should watch The Usual Suspects, that movie is incredible. You'd also like Bubbah Ho-Tep its another Bruce Campbell/Sam Reimi film.
Good movies. Although, how could you mention Black Hawk Down and Ridley Scott?! If you're going to talk about Ridley Scott, you talk about either Alien or Blade Runner. Two of the best sci-fi films out there. Scott at his best.
Sci-fi today (The Matrix series included) pales in comparison to those films.
I'll get to some films later as I don't file box sets in regular alphabetical sequence, so more on the Aliens franchise later.
Blade Runner is a movie I own on Laserdisc, and I didn't rebuy it on DVD until very recently, when they out out the nice anniversary editions. So that one is in a case and not in a binder.
Mate - some great movies there, Airplane is one of my all time fave movies. I think that this is better than 51things - looking forward to your follow up vids!
Bridge on the river kwai is one that I also was showed by my father when I was around 9-10years old, great movie. And Amadeus is my ALL TIME FAVOURITE MOVIE!!!!! Maybe I should make a video response to this vid to tell you in person how much I love this movie :)
Really looking forward to this series Jason! I did exactly the same thing ( surprising how heavy a dvd folder becomes! ) Slumdog millionaire is amazing!
Oh! I just remembered seeing 25th Hour. The best movie I have just happened to see on HBO or one of those channels by chance. I REALLY love Edward Norton also.
Bridge over the River Kawai is a movie I have never seen as it was before my time. I will try to rent it though.
I definitely can relate with the last thing you mentioned about movies you watch with your father. That is actually why I will always like The Outer Limits as my dad is a sci fi nut.

Don't you have Blade Runner in the "B" section of your dvds? ^_^

Shaun of the Dead
Sunshine
28 Days/Weeks Later
You should get those movies if you like Horror/Comedy & Danny Boyle.

just rewatched Shaun of the Dead after renting Hot Fuzz last month. Great fun!
Sunshine is bunk - sorry - didn't care for it.
28 Weeks later was ok - but not as interesting as the original.

Yeah - Ed Norton is amazing!
The Bridge on the River Kwai was released in 1957, so it's before MY time too! LOL
But it's a phenomenal film and well worth seeking out.
Yeah - my Dad is from England, so we watched a lot of Benny Hill and Monty Python when I was growing up.
