  • I can't believe he's gone. I still don't know what the circumstances were to make Csaba up and leave. I guess the new guy Eddie Alterman is alright, so far. I mean, you can't be a dummy AND get into the top position such as the Editor-in-Chief of a number 1 auto enthusiast magazine that dates back from the 50's without knowing how to write. And i'm sure he both knows how to write and what to write about. Still, i'm used to seeing that *ahem* "unique" name (Csaba) since my first issue in '88.

  • Csaba Csere is one of the best. Just says it like it is, simple and straightforward. I loved it when Csaba interviewed one of the engineers for the Hyundai Genesis and just because he threw a few tough questions the engineer's way people got all pissy and whiny.

  • well said

  • I think that was the most polite way someone could of could have ever told anyone to just ''deal with it and stop **tching''

  • Or maybe because it's hand built. Every gtr has a different horsepower. One engine might be 4.2 mm off and one maybe 5.2 mm off

  • very respected editor, he told the truth about testing, there are alot of variables, i have seen some video's of gtr's running 117 and some running 121 quarters stock

  • Like this guy, man sounds like he knows his stuff

  • He flat out said that the Nissan engineers MESSED with the software on the first GTR test. Rigged. Shameful.

  • @meadowz06

He has no valid proof. While it may be very likely, again it's just assumptions, so no he didn't flat out said it that they such action. Nevertheless, Car and Driver, Edmunds, Motortrend, and other testers all got similar results for the GT-R.

    3.4 to 3.5 0-60

    11.8 quarter mile

Some got a bit higher, some got a bit lower but that's roughly the average for these car reviews.

  • Logic

  • lo and behold i look up on you tube for one of my favourite pieces of automotive excellence and here i find csabas nose is just as crooked as mine (im a martial arts ex fighter) for what i must assume comes from a circumstance of mouth and arrogance before COMMON sense. YA IM SURE ALL THOSE GT-R FATCORS ARE WHY U ARE YOU-BOOB DEFENDING YOUR ARROGANCE I don't know about you but, when i feel confident about something...i ont need to blog to defend my point. NUFF SAID

  • but they have gone a few too many degrees left of center lately with their choices of new editorialship and CSABAs senility So i deducted thru logical thought. its time to retire C&D's idiocracy from my monthly car enthusiast budget and ive been happy.

  • i understand that the car magazine industry is under threat of extinction. so i pay full price stand price for their expenses...no bs...i understand the economy...and i buy 5-10 car magazines a month...C&D and motor trend our someof my least favourite due to their lack of passion...but i try to support them anyway

  • i will tell you why C&D car &driver are having soooo much trouble with the gt-r. its due to Bias. Look at their last Muscle car review 'Mustang beats Camaro and Challenger...with LESS power" Csaba Csere runs C&D with all the common sense of George W Bush. Yes they are against the MOTOR TREND CAR OF THE YEAR...cuz they try real hard to think outside the INTELLIGENT box. HONESTLY HOW ANGRY ARE YOU THAT LOTUS BEATS THE GTR AS OUR FAVOURITE TRACK CAR?= was their last bit of common sense

  • car and driver numbers on the money for a 3950lb awd car with only 480hp! the faster numbers are with gtrs running higher boost! and if you don"t know that you are from albania!

  • i think 0-60 is pointless it's why people who can afford gtr's buy m3's.

  • ahahaha!!! yea right

  • look at top gear gtr. they were saying since all engines are hand built each engine is different. also it a really good vid

  • not to mention every engine is different as well as are the transmissions so every car will preform differently i personally like car and driver and this guy makes a valid point.

  • Car&Driver has been dead set against the GTR its funny how they are the only ones getting bad quarter mile times and bad 0-60 times from owners to every magizne out there the gtr can get the 1/4 in 11.5-11.8 and if its not somewhere between that then theres something wrong with the test also every other magazine tested production cars between 3.2sec and 3.5sec 0-60 on production and preproduction cars ive really lost respect for car&driver for this one

  • well done!

  • suck ya all

  • Watch Edmunds Review

    They got ONE time

3.3 seconds 0-60 with the GTR

  • exactly, the they got the car off from a local guy in japan. beside, even the australian got a similar time, all i could say is that the weight of the drivers from C&D are different everytime, maybe the person who did the 4.1s weight 300lbs with a slower reaction than the others.

  • car already is a 3970 lb slug!

  • No...you are wrong!!

    It was...3.2 seconds!

    Watch this:

    Nissan Beats Porsche? 2009 Nissan GT-R (U.S.-Spec)

  • Damn you were right.

    0-60 3.2 seconds!

  • every manufacturer will have an engineer or service guy there on its first few tests so dont be so suprised, would you let your pride and joy go out say your own new car without knowing what they will do with it,weather plays a role just as the man said and rubber so stop sooking and grow up this is why car reviewers are so hesitant to tell us from scratch because you all get your knickers in a knot

  • plus, every car is a little bit different.

  • So let me get this straight. According to Car and Driver, Nissan are a bunch of liars and the car actually makes 0-60 in 4.1 not 3.5? And what about the other magazines did they also get "Fake" Nissan GTR's from the dealers? I have lost any respect I had for C&D.

  • So in other words, the first test car was a Nissan Skyline GT-R V Spec and nobody wants to admit it, hense why then they had a Nissan engineer there, with so little time put into the V spec they needed to watch over the car more carefully.

  • You nailed it right on the head. Nissan obviously tuned it to the point where it was basically the Spec V. Really great video, nice to finally have a clarification on the times. Testing will always produce different results, but the times on the GTR were very different. I think we now know why.

  • I would never buy the gt-r, even if I had the money, they are going to be nothing but trouble because they are a mess of electronic controls and computers. The vette is faster and you can actually WORK on it.

  • ryaneirich, you would never buy a gt-r because you are just like every other "domestic is better than import" guy. They will not admit that some import is better even if it is on paper or they experienced it themselves. Between the vette and the gt-r, it is personal preference. Having either one for me is just fine as long as I can afford it. When you say faster, you must meant the straight AFTER the 1/4 mile because the gt-r is faster than the vette at the track and on the 1/4 mile Exclude Zr1.

  • nissan just got owned.....

  • Good old Csaba. I used to hang on his every word in the mid-80's. He looks a little bit like Donald Fagen, these days.

  • every GTR is hand built :) thats why there a big variation

  • well whate I woud do this buy a production

GTR buy stike tairs add new aftermarket

    ECU and some ather parts

and you get the fastest car you can get

its gana go faster then 3.5 to 100

  • keep in mind EVERY GTR is handbuilt. your mileage may vary.

  • C&D does suck bad. One of the most biased magazines out there other than Motortrend.

  • All of this is fine . BUT there are many many many vids and tests of this car by mags and lone individuals. low3's 0-60, and mid 11's in the 1/4. seems to be the most common result. really like %90 of the results. so im not really sure way so much downing and doubting is going on, maybe just alil Jealous. also not really sure way the ZR1 gets brought up either, have you people never seen a blower on a vette? its really nothing new. Both camps involved seem to have idiots cheerleading, its funny.

  • I really was upset when i saw the numbers of the gtr's 0-60, from last months issue, due to the other numbers that heve been said from different mag's. Im glad u adressed the causse it.

  • Hmmm. A very interesting video.

  • oh god, you mean that fiber glass bucket that depreciates faster than you can say GTR?

  • @85corolla Oh yes! the 85 Corolla is ten times better and faster and way cooler!

    >.<

  • that's because every GTR have a hand made engine and the gearbox of each GTR doesn't work on other GTR.

appart from that the only relative thing is the 0-60 butt still mess your mind on corners.

  • wow. First, great video on the insides of car and driver. I feel you have elaborated on the truth behind the GTR's impressive initial times. NISSAN BACKED TIMES. The GTR r35 would have to have a magic-pixie dust dispenser buit in to display those kinds of numbers at the advertised manufacture specifications.

Also, let it be known that a c6 Z06 motor is ALSO hand built, and they all produce similar numbers. GTR fans, educate yourselves before typing, it doesn't help the car one bit.

  • Funny many people that own this car produce the exact same #'s without nissan's help.

    how is that.

  • sorry for all the idiots saying you guys can't drive .. gtr is the best

  • good job the GTR is an incredible car and i wish i could afford one.

  • The cars engine is hand built and each is different Every engine in the GTR is not entirely identical

  • That was a clear and level headed explanation of information that I regularly take for granted. Thank you.

I do think the GT-R defies physics though. How a heavier car with less power than my Z06 can beat it around the track is pretty damn amazing.

  • it does the same time than the F430 Scuderia

  • not to mention driver to driver. some drivers i would think have heavier right feet.

  • @ 00:56 seconds "i think they actually messed around with the software to get the best power and best launch possible...."

    You "think"?

Don't speculate when you have No proof. Either it was modified or it was Not, provide proof that it was modified.

Again you're speculating about sensors during the rest of the video.

1 second 1/4 mile difference = bus length, which is a lot.

These are the GTR runs by customers, Notice they didn't need engineers.

    watch?v=s-9v8Zl1FMo

    watch?v=sbg89R9jH5U

  • Which time are you getting with your GT R? I am hoping you must put your video with better time up for us to see. Maybe you are an angry driver, and will gets better time.

  • there are already two links i've posted of customers running the GTR much faster than C/D. Plus i'm Not the one speculating like C/D is.

  • let me tell you a little bit about the watered down crap in cali and ny they call petrol: you'll lose 40 horses on the gtr by putting that shit in it, dont expect low 3's to 60 with that crap in it

  • *sniff* I know. Ask us how we're doing as far as gun rights. California used to be a great place to live overall. The state itself has been watered down by the queers here.

  • C&D, i would've bought your theory about first GTR on hand being the fastest, but these are the results that the customers who bought the GTRs are getting:

    watch?v=s-9v8Zl1FMo

    watch?v=sbg89R9jH5U

Notice i did Not even post the edmunds insideline video link....the GTR they tested was of a Japanese J-Spec CUSTOMER NOT engineer.

So for you to say that first GTR was fast cuz of engineers becomes pointless when an average customer is posting times much quicker than what you got with the last GTR.

  • I'm glad C/D does such thorough testing, but that's an embarrassing amount of variability for the GT-R. Surely they could have programmed the launch control to cope with temp changes???

  • these are the times the customers are getting:

    watch?v=s-9v8Zl1FMo

    watch?v=sbg89R9jH5U

way better than last test done by C/D

  • Tell your publishing company you need the budget to hold-up Car and Driver's technical reputation.
