  • Seeing that, you can just imagine what it would do to your insides....a sobering thought indeed. :|

  • FIREPOWAAA!!!

  • .357 is the hardest hitting round thjat i can shoot accurately and repeatedly, consistently and it is one of the meanest. I absolutely destroy targets with it. Anything that small that can take chunks out of steel and yet does not need a rifle to shoot it, is good stuff.

  • from what i understand, the federal classic 125gr hp (non-hydrashock) with exposed lead outside the jacket expands faster, if you can get them id love to see it for comparison

  • @lawsturner The Remington 357 Mag 125gr SJHP is particularly destructive due to the large amount of exposed soft lead core. Winchester 125gr is practically the same and I have personally chronographed Win 357 Mag 125gr JHP at 1475 fps from a 4-inch revolver. VERY destructive fired into 1 gallon water jugs!

  • @coltperc which is why i would prefer one of these loads in a revolver, while i believe the gold dot is an outstanding bullet, it works better in an automatic where it's needed to improve feeding

  • @lawsturner Agreed. One of my favorite carry loads in my 357 revolvers is the 38 Special with 158gr Lead Hollow-points, loaded to a +P velocity of around 1000fps from a 4-inch revolver. Very controllable, with light recoil & muzzle blast, but extremely deadly and effective due to the superbly performing lead hollow point. I'm in the process of getting a 180gr SAECO mold HP'ed to a 160gr HP, LFN to load my own. I load to a minimum of 900fps from a 2", with 4" >1000fps.

  • what barrel length?

  • the winner of the 9mm vs .45 argument is clearly .357 magnum

  • So hollywood tremendously exaggerates the chance of survival when being shot?

  • @666YourNemesis No, just your chances of not being pushed back or not getting a limb disabled until you get medical attention.

  • Useful against jello-man

  • if anyone carries a 40 and wants identical ballistics check out double taps 125 grain barnes TAC-XP round. its a better made bullet then this one and being a bigger caliber will give you a bigger permanent cavity.

  • we used the 125gr 357 for many years, including the 110gr 2,000 fps hand loads. temporary expansion on entrance hole is usually more like 2 or 2.5 inches, we used it on pork, the FBI calibration of a bb 4 inches at 600 fps is off i think. the gell in this test shows a five inch hole, is your gell mix at FBI standard, or what % more or less do you mix. we used permagell but and dad first used FBI gell material in the 60"s and he said its hard to get any gell calibrated to human flesh.

  • I cannot LIKE this video enough! No wonder they say that getting tagged with one of these is like getting dropped by lightning.

  • WOW NOW THAT IS SOME EPIC FUCKING POWER

  • ho lee shit :0

  • 1 person doesnothave a magnum

  • They should call this the fork round, put it in you and you're done...

  • @GMisurdaddy Actually you would be forked :)

  • The best ammo for defense.

  • What would be a more ideal round for home defense. Same expansion with no overpenetration

  • @unlitdarkness6

    .50 Beowulf

Massive expansion, very little over-penetration, and it hits like a runaway freight train.

As far as pistol rounds are concerned, it's a toss-up. The .357mag, .44mag (with the correct bullet), and .45ACP are all good home defense rounds. It comes down to what you shoot best with and what you are most comfortable using.

  • anyone else think a cod head shot should look like that?

  • Dammmmnnn.

  • Can you say collateral damage?? If you shoot an intruder your neighbor might be mad at you for hitting him to

  • Tear you open like a rotten tomato.

  • Well there's your problem, you got a hole in yer!

  • That one person that disliked this most likely got shot by one of these.

  • This is overkill IMO.

  • @Peidmonte89 No such thing in my book. I can kill intruder, or I can "over"kill him. Dead either way ;)

  • @bluestudio67 ok when its 12, 1, or 2 in the morning and someone breaks down your door and you shoot him and go blind and deaf you let me know how this gun serves ya. I recommend either a low flash 9mm or .45.

  • The German BND is the renamed 3rd Reich GESTAPO.The BND had organized the delegate Scheuermann of our county to visit or home.To allow him to personally experience how my brother and our parents had been tortured. The BND continued to torture my brother. He was assassinated on July 11th2009.Half a year after the assassination of my brother the CDU delegate Mappus from our district town Pforzheim was made prime minister of the German land of Baden Würtemberg

The CDU is the ruling party in Germany

  • oh shit

  • DAAAYUUM, dat's sum lethal shit, yo!

  • Note to self: don't get shot with a .357 Magnum JHP UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES!

  • This is my load for handgun hunting small game. It is simply amazing. 6" 357 mag with a red dot sight, and it means business kids.

  • And the Bullet is still going...still going...still going....still...ahhh...it finally hit the lady next door.

Penetration is a wonderful thing if you absolutely, positively have to kill everything through 3 walls.

  • I carried a Security Six for fifteen years in the field, and I carried THIS BULLET the whole time!

  • My Security Six just got a boner.

  • @HeadHunter797 that go's without saying.

  • This is my "trouble load for carry". It is also a great load for hunting deer within 100 yds in a contender.

  • Am I seeing things or did the top split and rip open?

  • Wow...

    That''s pretty.

    Like a sculpture.

  • It might be a little redundant, but I would like to see the 125 gr. Gold Dot out of a .357 Sig test. The advertised velocity is only 100 FPS less than the .357 Magnum, but I not sure about the bullet construction.

  • These videos should be required viewing for anyone interested in carrying a firearm, or debating caliber effectiveness. thank you so much for doing this work. I wont lie, im a .45 fan, but recently purchased an XDm compact in .40 S&W, hoping to convert it to .357 sig at a later date. that 125 gr .357 mag is impressive, and even overshadows my beloved .45 ACP. I would like to 2nd erapa380's interest in some .357 sig testing, perhaps compared to the standard .357 magnum round.

  • Great load for serious work and a great deer load as well, for larger like black bear I use 158 solids.

  • I really enjoy these videos and am thankful for your ability to produce them, very informative. I'm sure you get a lot of requests so instead of asking you to do a video, I think it's more appropriate to simply check if it is on your list or in the works. I have a glock 22 that I can convert to 357 sig, I love the .40 videos you do because that's what's always in it, but I'd enjoy seeing what the other is capable of. Any 357 sig planned for the future?

  • I think this helps to show why the .357 Mag. 125 gr. HP still rules the roost for 1-shot stopping power (vs human predators). Thanks Much! My GP100 thanks you.

  • @jeldavos Too light, throw away the small stuff and step up to 10mm. You wouldnt say that after watching the dash cam of SC trooper Coates when he hits a suspect 5 times center mass with a .357 and dies on the side of the road from a .22.

  • Rocco: Is it dead? McMurphy: OMG!!

  • * deFense

  • I remember someone trying to explain to me once how the .357 magnum was an underpowered self defense round. I .... am inclined to disagree haha.

  • .357 magnum is my favorite handgun round period.

  • The wound channel is spiral shaped.

  • Thank you - the revolver used was a Ruger Security Six. We have a much larger database of videos - its just the question of getting permission from the customer to release them publically. Not all companies/people are OK with that, so we release what we can and also the independant work that we do.

  • @BrassFetcher - Thanks for your prompt response and information. I am looking specifically at the Colt Python with 6in and 8in barrels; would you say they compare favorably to the results of this test?

  • @RDylanR Colt Pythons are awesome. My dad owns one from the '70s with a 6 inch barrel. It is very accurate and has never let us down. Plus, the trigger is unbelievable crisp and light in single-action. In response to your question, a general rule of thumb is that the longer the barrel, the more power the gun has. So, since the pistol in the video has a 4 inch barrel, the Python should actually be slightly more powerful, with its 6 and 8 inch barrels. I hope that helps.

  • @metalstorm91291 Thanks for that metalstorm.

  • @BrassFetcher wow, pretty glad i have one in my night stand with some black talons

  • @ViolentEncounter Shoot up the Black Talons and load up with the Speer 125 grain Gold dot! It is a much better performing load (Newer technology) plus you don't have to worry about some lawyer peeing his panties over your choice of ammo.

  • @MultiGuntoter i dont think the criminal perp. will care what i use, as long it was self defence, within the laws. ammo choice doesnt matter, unless your using fletchettes or incidiary rounds ...

  • @ViolentEncounter Cheaper Than Dirt sells flechette projectiles to put in shotgun shells. But one should check the legality of them just in case before one uses them in a self defense situation. But I would think if you use a shotgun for home deense, buckshot would be the way to go. My Ruger GP100 .357 is MY choice.

  • @13ECHO20 Why would someone want flechettes is beyond me. Less effective than buck and a lawyer can easily pull off a "he's a sick man and he thinks regular shot isn't deadly enough" on the user.

  • @bf2lover42 I agree.

  • @BrassFetcher Great vid! What was the length of the barrel?

  • @BrassFetcher

may I ask what the barrel length was?

  • do you have tests/footage for .357mag using 6in or 8in barrels? May you say what revolver was used in this specific test? Awesome clip! loving your channel - thanks for all the hard work!

  • for defense purpsoses do you want a bullet to go through your target, if say you were in a house and the chances of the round then penetrating another target were slim to nothing?

I guess is a round more deadly if it rips straight through the body vs getting stuck 6 inches inside?

  • @unlitdarkness6 If a projectile stops within the target then that means that it has imparted all of it energy into that target. That is why JHP are preferred over FMJ in this area. Most self defense pistol calibers will penetrate ~14in of soft mass (of course bone and other density variables will effect this number) so you can do the math considering the "girth" of your target whether or not it will make two holes or one. Hope that helps!

  • @unlitdarkness6 No, you don't want the bullet to go all the way through your target, especially in a house. Bullets that overpenetrate the target do less damage to the surrounding organs than those that stop within the target, requiring the shooter to be more accurate, which is something you'd want to avoid in a self-defense situation. Also, it's possible that, if a bullet overpenetrates the target, it could hurt or even kill someone within the house.

  • @metalstorm91291 I know from experience that 2 holes are better than one when stopping a fight! More air in, more blood out equals faster results.

  • @MultiGuntoter You know, now that I've read a bit more on stopping power I'd have to agree with you, especially since you have experience in this matter. However, I still think it's dangerous to use an overpenetrating bullet, especially in a house. For home defense, I'd choose a pump-action shotgun loaded with 00 buck any day.

  • That looks... harmful.

  • I had someone try to explain to me how the .357 magnum is an underpowered round for self-defense, lol.

  • good 'ol 357, ive owned a S&W model 19 w/ 6" barrel for about 10 years now, and its never let me down. great for self defense, not too big not too small.

  • @mattmonster93 You've actually shot someone?

  • @GandalfsMamma No no no, and i hope i never have to, i carry it because you never know what could happen

  • The files would be several GB if the video ran to block reset.

The dynamic penetration depth is more important than the static penetration measured after the block comes to rest.

  • Why do you cut the vids short, I think they should run for 10-20 more seconds, the motion hasn't even slowed down and then you cut away.

  • Blocks are 10" deep by 5" x 5" . All pistol shots are done into this size block.

  • @BrassFetcher most are 16" x 9" x 9", but some places use the size you used, still great video, it shows the massive power of this round

  • what are the dimensions of the block your using, and do you always use the same size block?

  • It owned that fucking gelatin! I think I am going to buy a 357 now :)

  • thats why i love my 357!!!

  • 4"

  • how long was the test guns barrel?
