@COLOMBIAweedGSE This was written after a failed romance, at the time England were playing Colombia in a friendly (I think). Comparisons are drawn with Colombia from the woman's point of view ("And now I know how those Colombians feel"), in other words, feeling low and there's no way back ;-)
I love the way she wrote this to get back at a guy who she was dating turned out to be a low-life, he was married and she found just in time and dumped him and then wrote this, so typical of Kirsty. Revenge was sweet for her. Lol xxx
@clydewell... LOL.. N U HAVE TO LEARN HOW TO EXPRESS URSELF BETTA.. U MEAN "WRITE PROPERLY"????? LOOOL HA^^... HERES MY ANSWER....... DEAL WITH IT!!^^
she was on holiday in Cancun with her 2 teenage boys for Christmas 2000. They went scuba diving off the island of Cozumel and was in a scuba-only zone. As she was resurfacing from a dive, she saw a speedboat heading towards her son and swam towards him to save his life which she did but it cost her her own. She was hit and died instantly.
Its not about a Columbian man. In the song she goes on a date to a bar where the England v Columbia match is on tv. she found out the man was married with kids. She says she knows how the Columbian feels i.e loser
No!!! jiji, es una cuenta verdad. Ella fui una cita romantica con un chico casado lomismo noche Inglaterra gano tu pais en futbol. Pero ella no sabia el estas casado!!!
I remember seeing this song performed as it happened on later with jools holland,i had just finished a beer and i had a joint in my hand, and i thought that this was one of the best songs i have ever heard, and still do.
Sad how such amazing artists are not truly appreciated until they are dead. She is smiling somewhere, everywhere now...thank goddess for Kristy's voice!

Brilliant title, and she never lost the marvellous wit in her lyrics after falling in love with Latin American music.
Maybe they should make a film of her life.

Considering Kirsty Maccoll's killer hasn't been brought to justice, hear death should remain in focus.
