Everytime they are on the phone arguing he repeats what they are doing with the soldiers..... Remember when the farther said fuck.... The kid repeated and put it in the toys..... That was deep.... I loved the reference to the WWI armistice at christmas. I just thought the very last scene of the parents fighting changed it from happy to sad ending. It almost made the whole film pointless because we're back where we started.

@MartaHetfield xmas isnt an illusion. it means something to a lot of people. i'm not religious but my family celebrates it and it means family, warmth, peace to me..sure, every year, now that i'm growing up it means less + less, but now it's more like childhood memories. everyday cant be like that,because we're all human and stupid. people have jobs to get on with, problems to fix, moments of grief... and they cant be completely loving and selfless all the time. xmas is the one day we're okay.

I believe that if you were to put dates like, Dec 21... or what not, in a small text box at the bottom would help the viewer. But I definetly understand it more now after reading ziohohothis, comment, but it seems like he didn't pay attention in english class/not classed. J/K! lol

the fighting between the parents depict the fighting between the germans and the british soldiers in the 1914. during christmas, they came together and stopped the war briefly, and played football. After that, they continued fighting. This is what the coming togehter of the arguing parents depict. it shows the unifying force of christmas.

Did anyone else get that this movie was a re-telling of the 1914 X-mass truce? Made famous by the soccer game in the book "Silent Night" by Stanley Wientraub...? True story that really changes the perception of the film... look it up.
