Love this... keep it coming!!!! I read Lynn Hilton's book several years ago. I have no doubt as new scholarship and archeological discoveries continue, greater evidences will be found for the veracity of the Book of Mormon.
@thelordcommandeth Re-translation: "Thank you for reinforcing my confirmation bias." Seriously, though, what we have here, BackYardProfessor, is a paradigmatic example of an instance in which one constructs one's theory before one has gathered one's data; inevitably, in so doing, one makes the data fit one's theory rather than make one's theory fit the data. In a nut, take a vague geographical description, determine it's veridical, look hard enough, and you will find what you are looking for.
On the first page of the first printing of The Book of Mormon it reads: 'By Joseph Smith, Author and Proprietor,' which in later revisions and printings was changed to read: 'Translated by Joseph Smith, Jun.' Why did Joseph Smith name himself author of the book in the first place? And why did the Church in later printings make that important change?
You really need to look into things more closely. The Gulf of Aqaba is 200 miles south of Jerusalem across a landmass that resembles the Grand Canyon.
As I said in the video, you critics DON'T pay attention very well. I didn't say from Jerusalem, but its a three day trip from the TIP OF AQABA. That is how the Book of Mormon says it concerning their camp and travels to the valley. Thank you for your question.
You mean 1 Nephi 2, where the family leaves Jerusalem and after a 3 day journey comes to a river of water in a valley, and Lehi names the valley and the river?
Perhaps you should read 1 Nephi 1 to figure out where they are leaving from. Their house is in Jerusalem . . . Lehi is preaching in Jerusalem . . . Lehi is sleeping until he is woken and he dreams that the lord tells him to run . . . then he leaves from 100 miles south of Jerusalem, right?
Nope. You'll have to watch the video. The Book of Mormon shows the company arrived at the Red Sea, and from there in three days came to the Valley of Lemuel, which they themselves named, yet another desert custom authentically depicted in the Book of Mormon.
I have already. In fact, I am making yet more videos for you on this. You are misunderstanding things yet again. The 3 days counting was from the point of the Gulf of Aqaba, not from Jerusalem. It's layed out in 2 Nephi 2.
"And he also spake unto Lemuel: O that thou mightest be like unto this valley, firm and steadfast, and immovable in keeping the commandments of the Lord!"
you ran into the youtube users I call grnmessup and jhustler.
jhustler I consider a prisoner of his own religious hate.
grnmessup tried to portray himself as an expert in the field in which I have a PhD. When he couldn't I was the idiot in my own field of expertise not him with only a high school diploma.
BTW, the video was so good I listened to it twice.
Degrees are fine in and of themselves, but they certaily do *not* indicate the knowledge of a perso. Try not to get too caught up in degrees as the proof of knowledge and ability to analyze. It's a bit tricky ya know.
I have a PhD in Near East history from the University of Michigan, and--although I might quibble about some details--I agree with Kerry. Does that help? On the other hand, there are probably other people with PhDs in history that might disagree with Kerry. People with PhDs disagree all the time about all sorts of things. That's called scholarship. We should stick to debating the evidence and analysis.
the problem I have with the likes of grnmessup and others, is that you have these PhDs (myself included) who have spent good portions of their life trying to become an expert on a subject and you have crack pots who come around and read ONE article from yahoo and now they know everything about the subject
I find it annoying and disingeneous and totally lacking in scholarship.
But like a fly, I have a tendency to swat it when it becomes pesky.
chickadeario, No, it's not my experience with ALL critics. But with 99.9 it has been that way. You are the less then 1% who I have noticed does not scamper away from the point or fact. I have never sensed a bit of contention or hostility from you, or a twisting of my words. and that's refreshing believe me! If they were all reasonable such as yourself, life would be a breeze, instead of battling tornados ! since I cant stop them, I have learned all i can do is love them!!
Chickdeario is one who is always pleasant to talk to, and it appears to me that Green Messiah is getting rather pleasant now also. It is nice, thank you to all of you for carrying on good and interesting conversations. Decency is always the best way, in my opinion.
I see no reason to be unpleasant especially when you consider that I come from the position of always knowing that I'm right and the other person is wrong!
I'm not sure if I can explain this properly but there is a difference in a man who is an investagor, compared to a man who has had the gospel in his life, embraced it, felt of it's truthfulness and then fallen away, due to the cares of the world ( pride/fear ) or mens philosophies.
Investigates are wonderful, but those who were once LDS and fallen are hard and bitter; they're the ones who give greatest grievance, become ego driven, angry, bitter, hard, with a loss of love.

definitely immovable, no question about it.

When did I claim myself an expert in the field of Biomechanics?
Do you have more than one Phd?
What college did you go to, besides YBU?

grn Why is it when the facts are presented to you critics , instead of conceding, you tweeder todder all over the place, and away from the point?
The facts are presented to you clear and undeniable.
Only an "egoistical fool" lost in his pride would argue with the facts.
Is that what you are trying to tell us?

chickderio,
lol
by golly, that's my philosophy
to keep a cool hand luke..
In having been given the truth, there is no need to get ruffled.
Thats why for the most part I dont mind taking on the critics.
I do it purely out of love and in wanting to share with others what the Lord has shared with me.
That's what drives me.
