  • This is so freakin' awesome >.<

    :D

  • "we don't want to be technical. we just wanna feel it"

I love this guy. That one comment has really improved my opinion on him just for the ideaology of that statement. You have to appreciate the guitar as less of an instrument and more as an experience to progress musically and I really feel like he gets that.

  • What's next, honestly what's next!? Once you achieved Gilberts level what do you do?

  • You Think Your a Bad ass Mf on Guitar then u watch Paul Gilbert and get a reality Check quick...lol...

  • thank you! and all those that hate this vid are idiots! :D

  • this song is harder to play than it looks, it just highlights the flaws with my technique, dam you paul :p

  • oh my god. this is genius.

  • Gonna just remove comments from all of my videos I think because Youtube is full of idiots that post stupid shit for no apparent reason!

  • The two uploader comments are both serious answers to jokes, LOL

  • @MegaYeshua33, and how on earth am I to know that these fools are being serious or joking exactly???

In my opinion the comment saying that this was fake sounded like it was some kid that had no clue about guitar effects, and the comment about what amps he uses that I replied to was a genuine answer, as all you can see in the background on this video is Laney amps, so I figured that the poster of the comment was seriously asking what kinda amps Paul uses, which is indeed Vintage/Modern Marshalls

  • I wonder what amps he uses...

  • @TheCharmingChild

when he was filming this dvd, he used laney amps. you can see 2 amps and one head behind him.

i have no idea did he switched to something else these days.

  • @TheCharmingChild , Paul uses Marshall Vintage/Modern series of amps at the moment, or at least that's the heads he was using the last time I saw him play live..

I imagine in the studio he will use a variety of different amps.

  • I love this song song song song...

  • Nice delay effect

  • Bah! I LOVE those pre-lawsuit ibanez guitars!

  • whats the delay time?

  • @shutup1223 doted 8 just like the edge of u2

  • @shutup1223

     -300-

  • amazing

  • cool guitar.

  • @kingv911 its a flying v

  • nice

  • What I want to know is how how he can keep what he is playing straight in his head with what he is hearing in his ear? His hands know they are playing eighths but his ear is hearing sixteenths. Yet one more reason why I appreciate guitar even though I can't play one.

  • amazing! just amazing!

  • buckethead sucks no offense but hes just a shredder paul still has soul

  • @dmohr7 They both have different playing styles, you can't really compare the two guitar players.

  • @dmohr7 if you think someone "sucks" because they have no soul, you clearly don't know what you're talking about

  • Can anyone tell me what type of delay? Also how many ms/feedback settings?

  • @UrbanAssault5150 pretty much any delay will do, but i use an ibanez dl5 digital delay. it's between 360 and 420 milliseconds of delay, depending on how fast you play it. i keep mine around 380 ms. only one repeat, and the mix level all the way up. does that help?

  • It's all about the faces.

  • Comment removed

  • So does anyone know the exact amount of delay he uses? I heard it was about 313 milliseconds, which feels about right.

  • Is that a 1977 Ibanez Korina Flying V??

  • @asmithgdci its a 1976 pro cover ibanez flying v... wanna know how i know that? he says it at the F*ing beginning haha

  • @trapper08spike HA!! good form!!....

  • crazy

  • now i just need a delay pedal.......

  • @88segovia a and good distortion pedal

  • @Ferrera14 I got a Blackstar HT-20 Amp...best low priced tube amp ever IMO...good distortion

  • @88segovia good. so... now you only need a digital delay pedal LOL.

  • Master guitarist =]

  • he has a big ass pinky!!!

  • it looks like hes having too much fun on the guitar

  • @HandreyAlex lol i was at that part of the vid when i read this

  • I'd give up cash for life just to be able to play this song as good as Paul.

  • i love this! reminds me a little of U2! XD

  • the intensity in PG's face just to keep up with himself

  • @brando18guitarplyr Never said he ripped anything. I was just stating his argument was invalid, you should say that to the dude I answered to.

  • @2moonsrock i did as wel, but this was more speaking in general......

  • @brando18guitarplyr Fair enough, agreed then !

  • can you use analog delay for this

  • @seanyboy395 yep any delay that lets you get the delay time you need and dial the feedback down to a single delayed note will work fine.

  • @jimmyopolis umadbro?

  • This is brilliant.

  • @SLee1337 guess which one was first created?

  • loving the rack gear.

  • song sounds awesome even without the delay

  • i'd like to hear him lay that with no delay pedal

  • @ertylnw I'd like to hear you lay that WITH the pedal.

    In 1/2 speed.

  • @ertylnw lol its paul gilbert ....he can most likely play it without the delay

  • For those interested in playing the song , a dotted 8th is equivalent to a an 8th + a 16th. I had to look that up. So at a bpm of 126 , 8th = 238 mS & 16th = 119 mS, you would set you pedal for 357 mS.

For those that want to call each other names.. I'll go first ...You're a douchebag .

  • it's not fakeness. it's using a pretty basic effect in an ingenious and interesting way.

  • DUDE THIS IS SO FAKE YOU CAN TELL CUZ HE ISNT EVEN PICKING ALL THE NOTES

  • @manicf122 DUH! DUH! DUH! DUH! DUH! DUH! DUH! DUH! DUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUHHH!! :B

  • @manicf122 you have to be one of the most fucking retarded people i know or you live in kentucky

  • @GalantyGuitarist Ok asshole don't be attacking Kentucky here you stereotypical prick, I have no idea what he said that got your panties all in a knot but think before you speak and bash 3 million people all at once

  • @manicf122 Dude its called a delay pedal

  • @manicf122 Moron..Thats why its called echo song..He uses a delay.

  • @manicf122 are you stupid?

  • @manicf122 are you fucking retarded or what?!?!?

    He's using a DELAY PEDAL!!!!

  • You're a fucking moron.

  • @manicf122 ha

  • Paul is like the better looking and far more talented version of Dane Cook, google it lol They must be brothers from another mother

  • fake and way

  • Its not nessacerily creative but its very effective and can catch alot of attention fast, which is what a guitar player wants. good playing mr paul.

  • i want a delay pedal now

  • @dudejoe64 lol should be one of the first u own :P

  • @johnstrat13 why do folks post retarded comments like this?

Seriously, nobody is here to compare Paul to Buckethead or vice versa, I uploaded these vids for folk that are looking to learn from Paul, not for people like you to post foolish comments like yours!

  • @lespaulzrule Agreed, well said :-)

  • @lespaulzrule they post these comments to make people like you angry and to get attention that way.

  • ass hat

  • you know i've been practising this and i realized its not a flanger... it's the sound that produces the picking with all the palm muting, stacatto and delay at the same time

  • @livio1396 yeah man its definitely a flanger. when he plays it part by part you can hear that it doesn't have the same sound.

  • @ibemedtm91 well of course it doesn't, cause it's slow and without the delay, when you pick, you always scrape the string a little, and the pitch of course varies with the note you play, if you add a little speed and delay it kinda sounds like a flanger... just try it man... i mean.. of course it could be a flanger, but when i play it, the picking does that sound...

  • Buckethead - Big Sur Moon

  • Whats up with his orgasm face whenever he plays his guitar?

    i like it

  • hey guys if you wanna make delay sound that clear. dont buy digtech delay at all, buy boss ones

  • wow he is a big fan of laney

  • Sounds like aphase shifter bleeding through alittle

  • he really needs to put some meat on those arms.

  • Ah, the joys of delay! Giving him a delay pedal is like giving a 6 year old a whole garbage can full of M-80's, they'll find a way to make them really fun!

  • Buckethead and Gilbert need to do a god damn album together. A whole one. To prove how amazing teacher and student are.

  • @luichigo they alway do...they are the same guy..

  • @benchmstr no, they aren't

  • @mogamibijomaru1 prove me wrong...give me 1 single shred of proof they arent....you cant!!!..cause they are the same guy...

  • It's so clean, there's no fretting noise, nothing... wow

  • man hes got some weird guitars lol

  • cool iabanes

  • @rogerthehat Ibanez.

  • @GridZone i know isnt it a cool guitar my one is great gotta love the iban

    guitar

  • @rogerthehat its spelled ibanez

  • @rogerthehat I like how you spelled Ibanez.

  • can you post the tabs for this song?

  • Holy crap. Good thing I actually have a delay pedal!

  • Luv gilbert, there is no one better.

  • mantaaaaab

  • this makes me want to buy a flanger/phaser

  • ASS HAT HAHAHAHAHAHA!!

  • Lol, his face when he starts playing is fucking priceless.

The Echo Song was actually the first song I'd heard by Gilbert. How fucking lucky was I?

  • Cool

  • he can sure teach and make it seem so easy XD, although anything is with practice =]

  • Lol this song has the power to impregnate entire continents with guitar prodigal fetuses...

  • Delay and MXR phase 90?

  • @TheGatman100 From his pedalboard I've seen (check him out playing "Get Out Of My Yard"), you can see that he has a MXR Phase 90 on his board when he turns the speed up and down on his Boss DD-3.

  • Great effect, like the one that Gustavo Cerati uses in the 1986's song SIGNOS, when he was in Soda Stereo, anyway, very cool effect, even better guitarist

  • On paper this song seems so basic. But, it's so awesome and cool sounding.

  • i prefer buckethead's big sur moon but buckethead was just elaborating on the echo song which paul gilbert wrote. the two pieces are great examples of how buckethead was influenced by paul gilbert; after all, he was his teacher

  • very Ozric Tentacles :D

  • i didnt mean it like that.......... paul gilbert is my favourite guitar player because of songs like this, and let the computer decide is my favourite song

i just meant its funny how much he is feeling the music, not a bad thing

  • amazing creativity!

  • i really like how the echo just goes once really loudly then just stops. it is sooooo coool so you dont have 20 notes blending together :D

    PG in the man!!!!

    ~Andy

  • definetly some flange and delay but an amazing song even more of an amazing guitarist

  • That's sick... I wish Ibanez would make a V again... :( I would sooo buy one. I love Ibanez!

  • wow i dont know how to do this even simplified haha his timing is just so awesome with the delay

  • He looks like he just took a hit of something right before they hit record.

  • =( chill dude.

  • @AVFC0711 lolll give him respect for enjoying his music for so many years man. hhaha i agree with yor comment tho

  • Your an idiot, all of PG's music is worth listening to every note.

  • @AVFC0711 actually, it is.

it is quite creative if you ask any impartial observer

  • PG is just one blessed and dedicated badass picker folks.

  • I like Big Sur Moon. I'm a huge BH fan. But this song is extremely awesome! It lasts 5 minutes!! An incredible and accurate piece of music by Mr Paul Gilbert

  • what is time of this delay? ~340 ms or i'm wrong :P

  • What Ibanez model is that?

  • big sur moon sounds better but this is still awesome

  • Definitely a phaser. He uses a Phase 90 on his board.

  • thats awesome

  • HE´s using a Delay pedal

  • @pedro7g5

that's right but with auto-wah too

  • @pedro7g5 thats what he wants you to think

  • This guy is a GOD!!!

    MrGuitarguy1986,

    I'm 99% that's a phaser...

    Flanger's don't sound this way

  • dude is that Chebacca on his shirt? SWEET!

    PG rules!

  • Also yes he's using flange in this version. There's another version on youtube where he plays the whole song and uses flanger at the end. It sounds trippy with flange though. And yes, there is no guitarist more bad ass than Paul Gilbert. It's just a fact. The man reinvented the pentatonic scale.

  • I knew it was in sixteenth notes. When the vid started he said 8th notes and I felt stupid. I know technically they're eighth notes but with the delay it's really sixteenths. I feel smart now. Also just TRY and play this song. That's all i'm saying. it's the hardest Fing song you've ever attempted.

  • I have seen Paul playing live- he is absolutely most talented and technically playing guitarist. I love his music and his lessons:)

  • love it how he feels the guitar, truly artistic, perfect example of man binding with guitar

  • cool gitbox cool

  • i think hes got a flange going too anyone else hear it?

  • I do hear it, but it's a minimal amount. I think he did it just to add a lil extra flair

  • @wyldefan00 Actually I think it's a phaser?

  • @Blade686 I concur.

  • Yeah I think its a phaser too.

  • @wyldefan00 It's more of a phaser. A really cool sounding one at that.

  • @wyldefan00 yeah i hear that

  • @wyldefan00 definitely.

  • @wyldefan00 yeah he does

  • @wyldefan00 phaser set to a slow sweep

  • @wyldefan00 It's a phaser i think.

  • @wyldefan00 yes. its very light though.

  • @wyldefan00 yea for sure. you hear the faint wah in the background goin up and down? thats just a small amout of flange.

  • @wyldefan00 Nope that's a phaser

  • @wyldefan00 It's a phaser and delay along with a mild distortion.

  • @wyldefan00 ofcourse he has...?

  • @wyldefan00 absolutely

  • haha 4 20

  • amazingly clever and talented man

  • haha awesome, and at the beginning it looks like he farts hahahahah

  • would love to have this setting for the DD20. Can anyone help.??

  • @bluezdweezil He also has a flanger going.

  • i have a DD20.. set it at dotted 8th.. e. level max, feedback min, then tap tempo for ease.. but! his challenge is to practice timing, so set your desired time and practice. :D

  • that shits trippy...

  • man this sounds insanely awesome and like not from this planet somehow lol

  • "but we don't wanna be techincal, we just wanna feel it" lol awesome.

  • DD-OVER9000!!!!

  • lol dancing pinky 1:06
