A stunning combination of a brilliant artistic statement with a strong political message. What a cool creative idea using 16 words for the lyrics. Ms Guryan has consistently high standards and is an artist to be admired. Great job and important sociological message for all to watch and absorb.
"'16 Words' is a hauntingly effective anti war anthem that uses George Bush's own words to condemn him. A listener of this song, so powerful in its stark simplicity, comes away understanding that the blood on Bush's hands stems from the lies that came out of his mouth."
Joe Wilson (Husband of Valerie Plame - outed CIA Agent). Quote May 2007.
how stupid are you people who have been responding thinking this is specifically supposed to be funny? this is a SONG... making a POINT... by a great artist. remember SONGS and free expression? jeez. read a book, listen to LKJ and Dylan, maybe check out her other works.
yeah, I remember songs that used to make a point, remember that oldie but goodie called "I just dropped 6 lbs. of wet peanut riddled shit on a liberals head for whining like a baby", now that was a great song-poetic and full of free expression.
How stupid are YOU for not realizing that dark satire isn't funny? Especially accompanied by this cartoony video with rows of chorus line Ann Coulters? Are you really this dense?
Since when is dark satire not funny ? Sounds like you're the one who's dense. You calling another commenter "dense" is like $hit telling vomit that it stinks.
The video is well done and the tune itself is surprisingly catchy but this is barely satirical. "The Bush administration said things that were untrue" is hardly a revelation. Perhaps the makers of this song should focus their efforts on the current situation in Iraq rather than flogging this dead horse.
I heard the interview with Ms. Guryan on Weekend America today (June 16), and got here through their website (The peice is titled, "To Look Back or Not to Look Back" if anyone is interested). The song is great, and the video complements the style and artistic vein perfectly. This is brilliant, and, while a short spot on a nationally syndicated radio program will certainly help it gain exposure, it would be fantastic if it were being played (and veiwed) everywhere.
Loved it. Beautifully executed and right on target. Cutting satire delivered artfully. Couldn't ask for more, except maybe an impeachement or two in Washington. Can you offer any help along those lines?
You're right, it's not funny. It's satirical and dark (and mildly humorous in its portrayals). I've observed that people who find things such as Guryan's, "devoid of intelligence," are usually afraid of self analysis, which both stems from and perpetuates ignorance to the point that it becomes congenital.
Thanks for your comment,Bruno. This will be released in the U.K. by Pure Mint Recordings in late April as an enhanced CD single, the "16 Words" a-side, a b-side and the video, viewable via computer. ---David
Actually, this mostly digital (as well as a few scanned in images) photography. It was then animated in the multi-plane method in After Effects. Some of the elements were simple animations built in the animation program 'Flash'. That's funny because I got the job initially by mentioning to Margo & David I was hoping to give it a 'Monty Python' look.
Wouldn't it be nice if someone famous and popular would start wearing a T-shirt image from this video, just as (was it Kurt Cobain?) did with the Daniel Johnston frog picture. But this reminds me of Elvis Costello, so maybe it's too good to be popular.
I can't express with words how much I like this.

Why did noone tell me that Margo Guryan released a new song 3 years ago?
Why did she record only one song in 40 years?

Nice mix of lyrical and political; it's not the form, it's the content. Very nice work.

I'm glad you think you're the authority on what makes a song good. YouTube comments are so stupid...I swear.

Eek... meant "is" rather than "isn't" obviously. My mistake, though you'd imagine you'd figure out the point and error.

No, no no no. This just isn't funny at all and is in fact completely devoid of intelligence. Nor does it display any real musical talent.
