I know what gundam means to Japan, but after playing OP TROY, Crossfire, 0081 and DW Gundam they really need to let someone else take a crack at a Gundam video game because Bandai has just gone to crap, part of it is theyve got the one of worst consumer feedback response of all the developers.
I'v loved all the gundam games so far even the gameboy advanced ones and nooffence but this game sucks =.=" i mean the bad voice acting ,outdated graphics, collision bugs, clumsy gameplay . Most reviewers like IGN,GAMESPOT, GAMEPRO etc agreed that the game was by far the worse launch title for PS3. and like i said no offence imma gan too but i recommend don't buiy this game (seriously ..don't )
Say...how bad is the language barrier in this game? is it weak enough like MS Sensen 0079 where it isn't necessary to know Japanese or is it like the Gundam Battle/Assault games where there are just too many important things to be missed by the language?
More about quality of battles in Gundam than Quantity of units you destroy, it's really getting annoying anymore on Gundam games. Final fight on Rise from Ashes for the Dream cast for example, you only faced 1 mobile suit and an almost useless vs player mobile armor, but that 1 mobile suit was uber hard to hit, making it a very hard fight. 3 GM Sniper II Customs vs 1 Gelgoog, and a random mobile armor, that was truely a joy fight.
It would be better that the 0081 game would be sold as a Playstation Network purchase demo in North America for a Bandai test market promo and then if the game demo sells, they gives us the complete version and more added features and new mobile suits including some from Zeta Gundam like the RX-178. Also, I saw a hint of manga title cover of the game. I hope Tokyopop is aware of it and is negotiating a license.
only thing I don't like about this game, theres now way to set subtitles on or anything. like I realised that it was released only in Japan, but they had to haev realised all teh other people who woul dimport copies, why not throw us a bone and have somethign to set subs in the options menu or something, and not just english
@DangerousD6969 ign and g4 both suck... i quit watching them cause all they support are the popular games (mostly shooters) i refuse to continue to support them because they bash true classics for games like halo and cod...
but again this is a launch game, look at the first ever Gundam game to come out for PS2, it was G-Saiviour and it was basically the result of very early development tools and was not even released in the US despite coming out in Japan in 2000, months ahead of MSG or as we know it as Journey to Jaburo, then play a game like MSG Ichinen Sensou and the years of dev time speak volumes, MSG games have to follow the rules of the anime, the game cannot play like ZoE or others or its not Gundam
Basically watch even 8th MS team, that one pilot with the most MS experience ended up sucking the most at the end of the anime, same deal with 0083 with Monsha and even Allen and Kirks, Monsha's skills dulled due to alcohol and over confidence while Allen dies thanks to relying on a n00b in Keith and Kirks was at the wrong place at the wrong time and even though he tryied to fire his Zaku rifle in vain panic he got killed because the Dom pilot had speed on his upper hand, I admit the framerate
Now that PS3 specific 3d game development tools that use all of the features of the Cell BE cpu and RSX and Blu-Ray, etc like Killzone 2, Uncharted 2, Heavy Rain, The Last Guardian, Gran Turismo 5 final and a few others the game devs will show major improvements in gameplay and graphics accross the board and the Gundam games will benefit as a result, ever play Gundam Ichinen Sensou 0079? released in 2004 or 5, that game featured a really different PS2 3d engine that brought Zeonic Front detail
Gundam Crossfire was not really Subpar, it had flaws common to a launch game released on day one or even the first 6 months of a game consoles retail release.
I managed to master the gameplay in Gundam Crossfire to the point of easily getting S ranks in all but the final mission EFF/Zeon as you have to take zero damage and you facing a great challenge, its underappreciated because in the US people tend to not understand a game that follows rules established in an anime and not self established
well what I meant by subpar was not the realism of damage what I meant was the clunky controls, the graphics looking not that great, bad draw distance, and an unsmooth framerate. Personally I liked how you could die easily in a few hits in crossfire its something I miss in 0081.
I understand what you mean but I played the game Gundam Crossfire and at first felt the same, however after mastering the controls and the camera and becoming able to get a constant reliable S rank on most missions unless it was my error or allowing the AI to flank me the game's flaws are really that of a "launch" game and mostly the US videogame media greatly exagerated the games flaws and lack of understanding of how to play the game or even that the AI assist are supposed to be n00bs not Aces
Personally the only thing I hate about the game is the framerate admittedly I had a ton of fun playing it otherwise. Even 0081 isn't silky smooth but its far closer than crossfire.
Its obvious that 0081 is going to have improved framerate due to the fact that its 3d dev tools are more advanced and complete than the rush to launch to assure the Japanese Gundam Otaku that there is a game they can try out right away, it was a risk they had to take, no other way around it, the new hardware in PS3 means that these devs will want to do more, not just online play (0081) but gameplay advancements and physics specially in space and on asteroids and underwater, play MSG OYW 0079 JP
@Loz8900 "sucked" does not explain much specially coming from an American gamer like you.
Did you really watch MS Gundam 0079, 0080, 0083, 8Th MS Team, even MS Igloo and did you play previous PS2 Gundam games not to mention the Japan only releases?
Like I said this was just a launch game and its impressive given that its gundam eventually they will improve but it takes time
@7MGTESupraTurboA yes i did watch all of those, and i didnt see them being slow and sluggish. And the only japanese gundam ive played is gundam vs gundam next plus, which is what gundam is supposed to be like. Not all this fire....fire.....slash...........fire.........dash......slash garbage
@Loz8900 if you werent watching, the machines in senki are pretty sluggish too, or at least early MPs are like GMs, and just liek cross they have extremely limited thruster usage and die very quickly. The reason why people see crossfire as beign so bad is really cause your view range was too short to see the attacks coming to start moving earlier liek you can in senki, thats why senki tends to be a lot easier to play, also the FR is fixed. but it was still a PS3 release game.
@linkxsc Everyone i've talked to about crossfire says it's just too slow paced. My friend had it for about a week, beat it, and said he never wanted to see it again because it was just too boring. I liked the graphics and style of everything, but gameplay on almost all console gundam games CAN be improved. They should just at least make ONE console game like the PSP battle series and see how it does. I'm sure it'd get a lot more positive reviews then past titles at least.
i just ask for one thing better on here if it ships to US... better explosions. To be honest Journey to Jaburo had the best explosions graphicaly of any gundam game.
uhhhh it's better to not be ignorant of he fact and actually know what you're talking about? Ever Gundam is a Mobile Suit, but not every Mobile Suit is a Gundam. Period.
Besides, the environments could use a small touch up, but to be honest it looks fine. They couldn't make everything look super realistic like they did in Crossfire; it'd mess up the anime cutscene ability to mesh with the 3d graphics. Which is why the backgrounds are cel shaded as well. But yes, the environments could be a bit more lively, but it look great in any case.

They really need to get hideo kojima to make the next gundam game or ZOE. Only his team knows how to make mech games that have good mechanics.
