@darrenmuse He punched a window through as soon as he got outside, the guy in the glasses who runs past him between the coach and the club crawled out of that window
I really hate the sluggish jack asses in the back. This is the point where if you have a gun start shooting the whole clip in the air an herd these stupid ass sheep the fuck out.
It's chilling to look at the beginning of this vid, seeing a few hundred people enjoying themselves, but to then think, just a mere 5 minutes later nearly a hundred of them are either dead or being burned. Horrifying :(
I can only imagine the feeling of hopelessness that a lot of the rescuers felt. That fire was way too hot to be put out by a hose and having to watch those people perish. I bet those people still have bad dreams but God Bless them for helping out and saving lives.
It took me awhile to understand what I was hearing at 5:28. Horrific. And was the same woman who was screaming for her husband the one who complained her head was bleeding? I always wondered if he made it out.
@Zenbridge Thank you for pointing that out for me. Now I can't get it out of my head :( For some god forsaken reason I was compelled to listen to it like 5 times in a row.
@HipHopaaDoodle It was both. The foam was not fire safe and it lit up like a match on both sides. I personally think the camera man is a hero for having the guts to go around the building and trying to help. I read that he actually pulled someone from a window.
In February 2008, Providence television station WPRI-TV made an out-of-court settlement of US $30 million as a result of the claim that their video journalist was said to be obstructing escape and not helping people exit. WPRI-TV (owned by LIN Broadcasting) was filming a story on nightclub tragedies, and was there that night to film as part of their story.
We were shown this video in evacuations training for New York City Transit at its Fire School. There were grown women crying watching this. When I head the number 2003 and "fire" in the same sentence, I immediately said "Station Fire Raw footage?" The instructor said, "Man, Don't give it away." I then turned to the class and said, "Hope you did not eat or have strong stomachs. This is gonna be gruesome." I was right. This was a horrifying video to watch.
i got banned from a previous page for saying the same thing i will say now: the CORRECT thing for the cameraman to do would have been to put down the damned camera, and start helping people. NOT capture the Story.
@smackythefrog23 The camera man knocked out a window so people could climb out it, ran around back and called out to see if anyone was trapped near the exit and probably saved thousands of lives documenting this horrible fire. Do you know they have used this video to teach people about the dangers of fires like this.
And what could he have done to help? Join the people up front yanking on the trapped peoples arms totry and free them?
@smackythefrog23 naw dude, he's right. because the camera man captured the story all the way through, its used as a tool to help firefighters understand the progression of the fire and what its going to be like arriving on the scene with people screaming useless advice. you could have had ronnie coleman there trying to pull people out and it wouldn't have helped anything. there were 100 bodies literally stacked and pushing into that doorway, it would have been useless.
Wow. I remember reading about this, and part of me was glad at the time that I never really liked Great White and none of my friends did either. But I've been to clubs where this sort of thing could happen. People should watch the "Worst Case Scenario" episode about this. I think it's the 10th episode. Know all of your exits. If it's too crowded, don't stay. If you do stay, try to be near one of those exits. If you're not, stay away from the stampede and try to find any way out you can.
I love all the people that act like reacting in panic and distress was a pathetic thing to do,its the same people that say "I would attack a terrorist if he hijacked my plane".It takes a certain maturity to understand how easy it is to become a sheep in a moment of danger and panic.Your emotions and primal reactions take over, flight or fight is revealed at its finest. You take in a lung full of pure toxic smoke while there are 80 people still in front of you and its pitch black and say youre calm
@mrdave777 yeah I hear ya, but sometimes there's little you can do in emergency situations. The cameraman handled it absolutely correctly. saw what was going down, slowly made way to the door, and got the fuck out of there.
Damn, that place was a friggin' maze of death. Poor souls...
The club was mostly at fault they had linned the walls with non fire proof sound insulation. Blocked off one of the fire escapes and reduced a double door in the front foyer to asingle door
It must have been next to impossible to escape. At 1:11 you see a guy in a blue long sleeve shirt and a shaved head. He is standing to the right of the camera and appears to be about ten feet from the door. At 1:51 you can clearly see him again, trapped on the right of the pile by the front door. He only managed to move a couple feet in 40 seconds because of the stampede that swarmed through. He was right by the door and still had a tough time getting out. I wonder who that guy is.
The worst part is when all the screaming coming from inside the building stops...Everyone who ever goes to shows needs to watch this. ALWAYS pay attention to where the exits are.
To anyone who thinks the BAND was at fault is incredibly misguided and unaware of what the real problem was in this incident.
The flames at 6:00 are not flames you see from a building fire. That is what we call NAPALM caused by the extremely flammable insulation that was stuffed throughout the entire club because an "acoustic engineer" said that the insulation would deaden the sound for the people outside.
Unfortunately, this idiot knew nothing of the actual science behind Acoustics.
@andrex1212 The band was at fault... They were not cleared to use pyrotechnics by the fire marshal for exactly this reason. This was negligence on their part... This was a building fire, caused by illegal fireworks. And I don't think that "acoustics" killed a hundred people here.
Too bad he didn't get his Pulitzer. After all, he bravely got in the way, delayed visiting any exit he knew about, and promptly got on his cell phone and called the manager of his shit news station to say "don't worry, I got it all on tape."
How must that have felt, at 1:49, to be dying while some fucktard highlights you with a flashlight so he can get a better shot?
Cameras turn everyone into lowlifes? What about the hundreds of people around on the outside? They couldn't do anything, just as he couldn't, but still, he's an asshole for holding the camera? This place was a ticking bomb, and once things got out of hand in less than a minute, it's not much to do on the outside. On the contrary, this video has been used frequently in education to point out the importance of fire protection in a way that just words can't do.
February 20, 2003 - 100 people died as a result of this fire. The fire started around 11:07 pm and within 5 minutes the whole building was in flames. Its the 4th deadliest nightclub fire in US history. Out of the survivors there are over 200 injuries and over 100 people survived w/o injury. Many of the firefighters, cops and EMTs that responded that night as well as all the ER workers that received the injured are still greatly affected by this.
I'm a freshman in college, and we were asked to watch this for one of our floor meetings. All I could think about was, what if this happened to someone I know and love? Just knowing that those people inside were somebody's loved ones... really bothers me. It just makes me appreciate the time I have here with everyone I love just that much more
At 1:32 You can see the band standing there with their thumbs up their asses,They deserved to be sued for all they are worth which isnt much...I found the video of people partying an hour or so before the fire check it out.
i saw the original video of mr butler. Showing the exit signs. It was so sad to see a few of the bar maids being interviewed explaining how excited they were for the evenings performance. That part of the video (not shown) is the most creepiest and sadest i find. I wish the families well, it was a very sad day.
This is a strange video. It is disturbing on many levels. It shows the Fragile grip we have on life! How we go is not Predetermined it is dependant on the actions and decisions of ourselves and others, its like the hitch-hiker who gets in he car despite that gut feeling they should not and its their last ever car ride.... That gut instinct is the spiritual connection with God warning us to THINK,,, and letting us ignore it and go into danger is God showing us we have FREEWILL!
@gentleuterus 'Everyone' there chose to be there & the group chose to use those effects & the group & their roadies chose not to think about the possibility of fire, that is a form of maybe arrogance, God gives us TOTAL freewill meaning we have the freewil to be stupid & lazy and to also harm ourselves.
those who died were people whose paths crossed at a certain point in time with people whose stupid lazy actions affected their lives like the driver who is hit by another who ignores a red light
@jim1a2a this fire wouldn't have been caused had the "acoustics engineer" who didn't know anything about his job hadn't suggested these people board the entire interior of the club with insulation. When that much insulation is set on fire it becomes napalm.
Inside that club gigantic balls of fire were falling on top of people. This is almost exactly the same chemical combination that was banned from use after Vietnam due to it's extremely unnecessary causing of extreme pain and suffering.
@EatShiteAholes Like any newborn or young the Physical is dependant upon the parents/adults BUT my point is within the baby is a 'Developed' Soul! Now this soul is there within the baby for a reason known to the Universal Creator & the INDIVIDUAL soul That experiance of being within the baby that dies 'Adds' to that souls experiances, each reincarnation that soul has adds to its experiances. Even Hitler had a soul but he lost his individual Humanity & empathy of pain caused.
@EatShiteAholes I talk about God and Babys and Divine Intervention on a blog radio show i did on 26th July 2011 - Search Blog Radio then when you get there Search DumbAmerica666 the show is Titled - Gods Divine Intervention - How It Works!
@gentleuterus As i said our grip on life can be fragile, its not only our actions that affect our lives - it is actions of others that affects our lives.... Think about a family in say Iraq sitting down for an evening meal mom dad grandma & pa & all the kids and babys etc. above them a plane drops a bomb & their targeting is not properly done or they are given the wrong information. A whole family wiped out because of the actions of others, VP Cheney calls it Collatteral Damage Gods giftFreewill
this happened when I was 8. my dad was thinking about going that night,. I cant even think of that... I'm sorry for all of you who had to go through this, lost someone from this fire. this is just so traumatizing watching it I cant imagine living through it. in that small of a building there should not have been pyrotechnics! PERIOD.
@wvd1979 The nearest fire station was less than a quarter of a mile away. And, assuming it was a standard setup, the fire alarm sent a call to emergency services the moment it was tripped.
I have no connection to anyone in this fire but This video hit me so HARD. I could not sleep last night all I could see when I closed my eyes was fire. This video is amazing how FAST fire can travel. This video will be in my mind forever. R.I.P. all that were lost in the fire and all those familys that were forever changed. I will never forget.
This was shown to me during my nursing school clinical orientation when someone was talking about fire safety. I was so scared by it that right after I went to the hardware store and bought a smoke alarm and fire extinguisher for my apartment. This shows the reality of how horrific something like this can be.... definitely scared me for life and made me aware of fire safety. In the video they showed how the fire would have been controlled with sprinklers in the building....no one wouldn've died.
The club owners should have realized that the club was a tinder box.If you look at the start of the video you can very well see that the pyro shit shouldnt of been used because the ceiling is far to low for that shit. The owners killed all those people and they fucking know it.I cant imagine what those people must of felt like knowing they were trapped and slowly dying from the smoke, and you know the heat from the fire was starting to melt those closes to it.
@starrocket666 You know what was most amazing? The assholes who used the pyrotechnics apparently had no fire extinguisher to put out the fire if things got out of hand. Could've saved everybody with minimal damage. Stupid as can be.
the biggest problem have with this video is he should have been helping to pull people out of that door!!!! put the camera down and help.. i lost two friends in this fire and it makes me sad i would have been pulling people out until i couldnt stand the heat any more. all i hear is people yelling for help makes me cry every time R.I.P. Kevin and Mike....
@Lorijs1 I totally disagree with you. Someone had to document this for a number of different reasons. Because of this video, the families were bale to have solid proof of negligence. The problem I have is the number of other grown men standing around and not helping, that's bullshit. I couldn't live with myself if I didn't help.
I actually broke down and fucking cried after watching this. Those fucking screams. Imagine if you were there and you knew one of your friends was inside. And there would be nothing you could do. Imagine if you recognized one of the screams?
I can handle gore just fine, but hearing people scream for their lives cuts through me like nothing else.
I know I'm meant to feel sorry for these people but at the same time it makes me hate how stupid Humans are, they're acting like animals or something... we're better than this surely!
@slannmage Yes these are/can be animalistic things because that's what you fucking do when shit like this happens, I don't know what you mean by 'we're better than this', what would you like to see them do instead?
@slannmage How do you know the building wasn't safe, the staff wasn't trained properly and that they didn't know where their exits were?
Looks to me like they got as many people out as possible except those are were already caught in the fire, the camera man even goes around the buildings to the other exits in case there's anyone left.
You're being unnecessarily critical of something like this.
You would do the same. When your life is in danger, instinct takes over and logic is thrown out the window. Only trained people like cops can control themselves in these situations.
@slannmage Right, first of all. The majority of what you said is rendered MEANINGLESS because in such a state of emergency your mind goes into instant panic mode and only primal instincts kick in. Which include exiting the way you remember coming in, and doing so as fast as possible.
The real problem IN THIS INSTANCE are the 150 too many people that were in the building.
The building was safe against fires, it had like 5 fire exits!
@eplays The infamous "grandfather clause" made the building exempt from sprinklers because of its age. The grandfather clause has caused more deaths than anything else. The Our Lady of Angels School in Chicago in 1958 was grandfathered from sprinklers, and 95 died in a fire there (92 of them children).
It makes it very obvious to me that humanity is clearly incapable of learning from history, as we continue to make the same mistakes time and time again.
@JLJ061 That's false information. The grandfather clause did not apply after the building, previously in use as a restaurant, was approved for a higher capacity for use as a nightclub. Fire sprinklers were required by law.
Nobody shouted FIRE ! over the P.A. system. We just hear individuals shouting fire which can barely be heard over the noise and the whistles which can mean another thing altogether. May the 100 people who perished rest-in-peace.
From so many incidents happening all over the world, it looks like nightclubs are the altars of human sacrifices to the devil. After all the " fun & enjoyment ", people will need to die as human sacrifices for these nightclubs to appease the devil. If the cause is not due to indoor fireworks, it is electrical wires overheating or even arson.
If the stage hands would have put those flames out when they started, it would have never happened. Those flames were visible to the people on and beside the stage because I saw them look at the flames. You would have 2 or 3 people on stand by with fire extinguisers when using Pyro. Those flames were controllable in the early stages. I believe this was all a set up. I think the owners and some of the survivors set the fire and burned everyone in a satantic ritual.
how are there 7 likes to this video?? this is horrible. are you guys really sitting at your home watching this video and thinking to you self "I like this"?
Seemed like the camera-man was the only person near the front who had the sense to get out when the fire started. Can't believe how many were just standing there!
This brings tears to my eyes. We had a fire in my house when I was a kid and I still remember the desperate sound of my mothers voice yelling "Fire!" at 5am. Thankfully we all got out.
@chanceacalton Think about this. The self ignition point of human hair is around 800 degrees. And she made it out very early. Even at that, her hair was still burned. She was either exposed to flame, of superheated smoke.
@chanceacalton You are right. A lot of lives were saved from this; I am sure they did not die in vein. This is really sad (despite my username). And I just want to point out a fact. The self ignition point of polyester is around 400 degrees, leather is only 212. So based upon the video at 1:19, the inside of the club had to over 400 degrees in only about 1 min. That is terrible. Listen real close to the girl next to him when she feels the heat. The man whos arm ignites looks at in in disbelief.
@analyzingfunny I don't know how you guys even saw the flame on that guy's shirt, it happened so fast. Even after you had pointed it out, it took me a while/several views to find it. Are you certain it's not a trick of light from the shirt of the guy behind him? Do you really think it combusted from ambient heat? Surely the guy was not right up @ the stage, where the worst of the flames were already spreading, or he wouldnt have been exiting @ this time; but if the ambient temp had already....
at 1:19 the man right arm bursts into flames. The ignition point is around 400 degrees. Im sorry, but those people burned alive in only 2 min. If that was at the door, imagine how hot it was inside.. my God...those poor people.
I was so traumatized by this video that I couldn't sleep last night! My Friend Mike Hoogasian and his wife Sandy perished in that fire. This was the first time I saw this video.
@jcisbrazilanf This is a strange video. It is disturbing on many levels. It shows the Fragile grip we have on life! The main problem here is that people were DRINKING and/or DRUNK.
You react differently when you are drunk vs being sober.
The band should have alerted everyone and they didnt and it wasnt until the
fire alarm went off that people even noticed.
Funny how most of the band got out.
Also, not one person thought to grab an extinguisher?
How long did it take for the fire department to arrive?
Many questions had to be asked in this case.

@keithsmove Fire department did come about 4:50 on video. So I quess they came less than 4min after they got the alarm

i saw the original video of mr butler.

That gut instinct is the spiritual connection with God warning us to THINK,,, and letting us ignore it and go into danger is God showing us we have FREEWILL!
jim1a2a 5 months ago
@jim1a2a So why did God just allow those people to be roasted alive?
gentleuterus 5 months ago
@gentleuterus 'Everyone' there chose to be there & the group chose to use those effects & the group & their roadies chose not to think about the possibility of fire, that is a form of maybe arrogance, God gives us TOTAL freewill meaning we have the freewil to be stupid & lazy and to also harm ourselves.
those who died were people whose paths crossed at a certain point in time with people whose stupid lazy actions affected their lives like the driver who is hit by another who ignores a red light
jim1a2a 5 months ago
@jim1a2a this fire wouldn't have been caused had the "acoustics engineer" who didn't know anything about his job hadn't suggested these people board the entire interior of the club with insulation. When that much insulation is set on fire it becomes napalm.
Inside that club gigantic balls of fire were falling on top of people. This is almost exactly the same chemical combination that was banned from use after Vietnam due to it's extremely unnecessary causing of extreme pain and suffering.
andrex1212 4 months ago
@jim1a2a
Do babies that die have free will, too?
EatShiteAholes 2 months ago
@EatShiteAholes Like any newborn or young the Physical is dependant upon the parents/adults BUT my point is within the baby is a 'Developed' Soul! Now this soul is there within the baby for a reason known to the Universal Creator & the INDIVIDUAL soul That experiance of being within the baby that dies 'Adds' to that souls experiances, each reincarnation that soul has adds to its experiances. Even Hitler had a soul but he lost his individual Humanity & empathy of pain caused.

A whole family wiped out because of the actions of others, VP Cheney calls it Collatteral Damage Gods giftFreewill

beeroosterm 5 months ago
@wvd1979 The nearest fire station was less than a quarter of a mile away. And, assuming it was a standard setup, the fire alarm sent a call to emergency services the moment it was tripped.

I have no connection to anyone in this fire but This video hit me so HARD. I could not sleep last night all I could see when I closed my eyes was fire. This video is amazing how FAST fire can travel. This video will be in my mind forever. R.I.P. all that were lost in the fire and all those familys that were forever changed. I will never forget.
pingreegrove 5 months ago
This was shown to me during my nursing school clinical orientation when someone was talking about fire safety. I was so scared by it that right after I went to the hardware store and bought a smoke alarm and fire extinguisher for my apartment. This shows the reality of how horrific something like this can be.... definitely scared me for life and made me aware of fire safety. In the video they showed how the fire would have been controlled with sprinklers in the building....no one wouldn've died.
Rokuwhitefox 6 months ago
The club owners should have realized that the club was a tinder box.If you look at the start of the video you can very well see that the pyro shit shouldnt of been used because the ceiling is far to low for that shit. The owners killed all those people and they fucking know it.I cant imagine what those people must of felt like knowing they were trapped and slowly dying from the smoke, and you know the heat from the fire was starting to melt those closes to it.
starrocket666 6 months ago
@starrocket666 You know what was most amazing? The assholes who used the pyrotechnics apparently had no fire extinguisher to put out the fire if things got out of hand. Could've saved everybody with minimal damage. Stupid as can be.

If anything, chronicling the events are much more helpful.
ghastwraith 6 months ago
@Lorijs1 I totally disagree with you. Someone had to document this for a number of different reasons. Because of this video, the families were bale to have solid proof of negligence. The problem I have is the number of other grown men standing around and not helping, that's bullshit. I couldn't live with myself if I didn't help.

vmistry94 7 months ago
@vmistry94
1. Not go and see that shitty band
2. Make the building safer against fires
3. Train the staff
4. Don't use pyrotechnics in such a crowded and small building
5. Know where your exits are
6. Don't panic or push
etc etc.
All these people died because of Morons.
slannmage 7 months ago
@slannmage How do you know the building wasn't safe, the staff wasn't trained properly and that they didn't know where their exits were?
Looks to me like they got as many people out as possible except those are were already caught in the fire, the camera man even goes around the buildings to the other exits in case there's anyone left.
You're being unnecessarily critical of something like this.
vmistry94 7 months ago
@slannmage
>6. Don't panic or push
You would do the same. When your life is in danger, instinct takes over and logic is thrown out the window. Only trained people like cops can control themselves in these situations.
Older222 7 months ago
@slannmage Right, first of all. The majority of what you said is rendered MEANINGLESS because in such a state of emergency your mind goes into instant panic mode and only primal instincts kick in. Which include exiting the way you remember coming in, and doing so as fast as possible.
The real problem IN THIS INSTANCE are the 150 too many people that were in the building.
The building was safe against fires, it had like 5 fire exits!
You're the moron.
SamuelEllmer 6 months ago
@SamuelEllmer There were no fire sprinklers installed, which was required by law. How is that a building safe against fires?
eplays 6 months ago
@eplays The infamous "grandfather clause" made the building exempt from sprinklers because of its age. The grandfather clause has caused more deaths than anything else. The Our Lady of Angels School in Chicago in 1958 was grandfathered from sprinklers, and 95 died in a fire there (92 of them children).
It makes it very obvious to me that humanity is clearly incapable of learning from history, as we continue to make the same mistakes time and time again.
JLJ061 2 months ago
@JLJ061 That's false information. The grandfather clause did not apply after the building, previously in use as a restaurant, was approved for a higher capacity for use as a nightclub. Fire sprinklers were required by law.
eplays 2 months ago
@eplays I saw no water sprinkling down...
EatShiteAholes 2 months ago
@EatShiteAholes There were no sprinklers, so it would be odd if you did.

If the cause is not due to indoor fireworks, it is electrical wires overheating or even arson.
opsvideo2008 8 months ago
If the stage hands would have put those flames out when they started, it would have never happened. Those flames were visible to the people on and beside the stage because I saw them look at the flames. You would have 2 or 3 people on stand by with fire extinguisers when using Pyro. Those flames were controllable in the early stages. I believe this was all a set up. I think the owners and some of the survivors set the fire and burned everyone in a satantic ritual.

The man whos arm ignites looks at in in disbelief.
analyzingfunny 10 months ago
@analyzingfunny I don't know how you guys even saw the flame on that guy's shirt, it happened so fast. Even after you had pointed it out, it took me a while/several views to find it. Are you certain it's not a trick of light from the shirt of the guy behind him? Do you really think it combusted from ambient heat? Surely the guy was not right up @ the stage, where the worst of the flames were already spreading, or he wouldnt have been exiting @ this time; but if the ambient temp had already....
