Most of the countries that have public or "socialized" healthcare systems have higher life expectancies than the United States that is a FACT. Here in the United States Healthcare is a business were there are a lot of people making money at the expense of other people's health. This is wrong! health care should be a civil right for everyone.
All citizens of Iraq get full health care coverage at no cost to them under Iraq's Constitution. The provision was proposed and pushed for by the George W Bush Administration and we, the American taxpayers, are paying for it. Doesn't anyone think that's outrageous? Every civilized country (and many not so civilized) in the world has Universal Heath Care, yet a lot of Americans can't afford it.

I am an American who has been living in the Czech Republic for the past 6 years and the health care is better than any that I ever received in the U.S. They saved me during an MS scare. I hope my family can someday get the same care that I have, but they are bankrupt from so many medical bills.
What many fail to realize is that ANY form of insurance is, in essence, a 'socialist scheme'. You pay premiums to get coverage along with a group of fellow insured. Other insured benefit from your premiums should they get sick. The smaller the group, the higher the premiums. The opposite is also true, with the caveat that an insurance company will ALWAYS put profit above your well-being.
Universal Healthcare is basically a very large group of insured (lower premiums) without an interest profit!
The American Scheme: We live in a system that is specifically designed to transfer debt from the top to the bottom and to transfer wealth from the bottom to the top--the Medical-Industrial Complex is one institution that contributes to this pyramid scheme.
who the fuck cares what the americans think? it's the same old shit every fucking day... they wake up for a moment and see "ooh those other countries are doing this better" then their media puts the gears in and all the fucking absurd bullshit starts.
if they want to keep their ridiculous system, let them... ignorance is bliss?
having lived in Australia now for the last year, I can say... the Republicans are huge liars. The public health system IS fantastic and inexpensive. Everyone gets coverage. The service acts like the police or fire department. They even have doctor cars that serve people at home! The republicans have a lot of Americans in a "north korea" style of indoctrination... wherein they are automatically fed propaganda without ever seeing "the enemy".
How hard is it to understand... Public health is just like having a fire department. It is ALWAYS there if and when you need it. Have I had a fire put out lately? NO. But do I complain if they have to put out the fire of my neighbor's? NO. Have I needed police protection? NO. But it is always available to me when I need it. Same thing with socialized medicine. Some people will need it more than others.
As a public health student in an international school I can tell you that there is no perfect system. America does have the best medical care in the world, the problem access. If we were to implement a fairer system where everyone would have access we would have to sacrifice part of this because the resources wouldn't be there. The MRI in Japan is less expensive because it is what we would consider "outdated" even though it still get the job done albeit not for extreme cases. Thats one ex
@SuperBrandocommando That's complete nonsense. Japan is not some 3rd world country using outdated and broken equipment. That has ZERO to do with why our costs are so much higher. Yes, over in "Japan" they use rusty saws and hammers for surgery also. You might want to switch schools.
Everyone who is reading this comment, please click on my username for my videos I made about the The Truth of the World. I have found out what the truth of life is, the truth of the world, and the truth of God. Please, I really want people to watch and listen what I have to say. No more living in false reality, no more living in illusions, no more thinking there is no way out......its time to lead your life into The Truth of the World!!!!!!!!!
Rome wasn't built in a day, we will eventually get there. America is primarily a country for the rich at this point. Even those I would consider wealthy (200k+ a year combined salaries) have quite insane debts to pay off. More so than those of us in the 30k-70k brackets usually. There is a lot of things wrong with our system currently, and most people believe helping others is a bad thing. Much of the bad wrap comes from welfare abuses(which do exist).
I get everything for free in Canada so I dunno how much it costs...I didnt veen know u could get bankrupt from healthcare. isn't health above money in importance O.o?
Fellow Malaysian I see. As far as I'm concerned, the best healthcare in the world is back home, in terms of level of service for the absurdly low cost.
Beats the NHS, beats all the other universal coverage systems, and don't even compare it to the one in the USA.
well fuck me i already knew that the insurance companies and republicans were makin big money but damn reading that article put it in there for me. we really are one of the smartest countries but we obviously have very little common sense and forsight and completely full of greed! come on guys we are just about the equivalant of a 3rd world country in our health care i think we should ( as much as it hurts to say it) try to be canadian
I think that what we eat plays a big part re: how much we go to the doctor.
Some illnesses ABSOLUTELY need medicine. That's one thing. But others are LIFESTYLE ILLNESSES.
Change your lifestyle. Get more sleep. Drink more water. Eat more healthily. Your immune system will strengthen, and you won't have to use as much of that medicine that drives the illness into your body (rather than letting your immune system beat it) and you'll need less trips to the doctor.
Or lets us suffer and die. I was homeless at 18 because my dad couldn't get his gall bladder removed until it almost killed him. He was in ICU for 9 months and was permanently disabled. I think the gall bladder surgery 10 yrs earlier would have been fiscally more conservative!
I don't even want to talk about the fact that I can't get insurance due to preexisting cancer I had and Lupus I have. I can't see a doctor to see if I still have cancer!
@1000Demons Yeah I mean a true socialized healthcare system might not work in the US but a hybrid system or a social insurance system might work though.
I haven't paid a cent for my medicare in my entire life, save for prive dentist visits. All covered in taxes. That includes the medicare for my broken limbs, surgeries and the subsequent hospitalization etc. There's been a lot of it.
We had to cut into my college funds to fix my torn tendons, and for the rehab after that and the medical bills over the span of three long years. Just a bit, in all honesty, but that's still money that was supposed to go to my education. It pisses me off.
I'm English, tore my knee apart in a sports injury (so my fault), I saw my doctor a bunch of times( all free), got an MRI (free), saw the surgeon a bunch of times (free), had an arthroscope procedure (free) and my ruptured ACL reconstructed and guess how much it cost me. What is interesting is after the initial GP visits, all this took place in a private facility, paid for by the NHS. And no one forces me to wear a red arm band or drive a Lada
I'm a proud American but our Health Care BLOWS BIG BALLS!!!! We in America not only worry when were sick but after we are cured Medical bills begin to create a burden on our lives, thus causing bankruptcies and adding to the nations already deficit in sky rocketing Health care costs! I do admire what alot of ignorant uneducated idiots here in America fear SOCIALIZED MEDICINE OOOHHH BOOO SOCIALISM! IDIOTS!!!
Americans are generally very patriotic. So when lying politicians say "America has the best healthcare system in the world", the general population just assumes that it must be true, because in their minds America is the best country in the world, and so it must be the best at everything.
It's not AMERICANS who are stupid, it's the damn ass rich conservative republicans. They don't see a problem with paying thousands of dollars for medical procedures. It's all pocket money for them.
The majority of us? Getting medical bills is pretty painful. =/
@archiebunkerville:Re:the rich evil conservatives, I don't think "stupid" is the word. I think "evil" and "corrupt" might be better choices. They know what they're doing.
I'm not from your country, but I do agree with you in that they should not do it.
I agree something should be done about it.
Question is: where's the revolution? The common people?
I see tea party protests and town hall meetings.
I NEVER see a Marie Antoinette-style guillotining.
@1000Demons The thing is most Americans are unfortunately too distracted to care they rather watch what freakin Oprah is doing or watch fox news than stand up get rid of the corruption and these corporate bastards and their whores the politicians who would whore themselves to the highest bidder.
The reason there's no revolution is the same reason there was no vote on whether or not to invade Iraq. American citizens have no say on policy. Both of their political parties are essentially the same and it's impossible to start a new party. In short, they're not a real democracy.
of course i disagree with you as a physicist, because in physics you are modeling motions of phenomena in which you should in theory be able to account for all variables. econimcs is not a science & it is not a maths, it is a psychology or philosophy & relies very heavily on the workings and flaws of the human mind. again you have a concrete way of thinking about economics & you are failing to consider the irrationalities and flaws that human mind adds to applied economics

I can provide mathematical proofs for the efficiency but it still wouldnt be enough. Ignorance is bliss.
Parallels:
Creationists know nothing about evolution and yet say the experts are wrong and they are correct. Most liberals know nothing about economics and yet say the experts are wrong and they are correct.
Creationists disregard evolution because they find it perverse. Liberals disregard free markets because it isnt fair.

I love how people downrate my comments about the efficiency of perfectly competitive firms vs massive bureaucratic systems. People are so deluded to go against the framework of modern economic/financial theory.
The liberals are suffering serious delusion. They say its just a theory but are angered when creationist nutjobs say that evolution is just a theory. You, liberals, are just as deluded as the creationists.
"Unlike food, which anyone can grow or raise on their own if it gets to expensive. Health care you are left in the hands of others."
EPIC LOL. Btw your logic, you should be provided with a car, laptop, tv,..etc because if prices were to rise you couldn't produce them inexpensively from scrap. Think over your arguments before posting them.
Those things in your list have nothing to do with LIFE. You can live without a car, or laptop or anything else that you may list. The fact is, You cant live without health care, food, water, shelter of some type and clothing. Take away just 1 of those things and you will not live long. Those are the facts. 44,000 Americans die every year because they dont have access to health care. So before you give us your misinformed logic, I think you should think over your argument before posting them.
How many people would die because of a massive bureaucratic system? You think magical unicorns will make a heavy bureaucratic system which has interconnections between 70+ agency...efficient. Why do you think GM was destroyed besides just because of the unions. They had massive bureaucracy but theres will pale in comparison to the Goalith of government bureaucracy contained within a 2000 page bill
We finally get to the REAL issue that you have. You, like Glenn Beck, see the Government as the BIG BAD BOOGIE MAN. Your problem isn't with health care for all but w/ Government. You see the Government as the problem. Your argument is about FEAR! Your just another PARANOID FREAK, that thinks the Government is out to get them. If Government run health care is so bad, then Why do the seniors of this country LOVE IT? Why do the people in Europe, even those that fought against it, now love it?
I love how you have no argument. You just throw logical fallacies at me. My position is based on modern economic/financial theory not some loon. Yours is based on emotion. Irrationality never got anyone anywhere positive.
No, its based on FACTS. Facts that you dont like. Facts like our Government runs Medicare and Medicaid for far less than Insurance company's do. Fact that Insurance company's have turned their CEO's and Executives into billionaires by denying their policy holders med's and services. As for your Emotion comment, I would say that its because of Emotional views that slavery ended, it was Emotional views that gave Woman the right to vote. It was those same emotions that gave black ppl civil rights.
"Facts like our Government runs Medicare and Medicaid for far less than Insurance company's do"
Logic fail. So if created a portfolio for you with high returns would you think that was great. Of course not. One must look at risk adjusted returns. Medicare has low overhead because they dont go after fraud effectively at all. What is their fraud adjusted costs.
LOL. So the only reason insurance company's rip the people off and take 34% off the top for their pockets, is because of RISK. Give me a break. The only RISK that they care about is the risk that the American people are waking up to the fact that they have been bought and sold like slaves on Wall Street. Look at Aetna, they are going to drop 600,000 ppl next year, Why? Not because of ricks but because Wall Street said they want MORE MONEY. please YOU FAIL and Im done with you. Have a good life.
"they have monopoly power because of the government. If you allow for interstate/intl competition, they will have zero economics profit in the long run. ZERO."
You think i like monopolies. Btw, there is no quasi monopolistic entity more powerful than the government. Go back to your delusional world where magical unicorns sprinkle efficiency on massive bureaucratic systems.
Now Im done with you. No matter how ignorant your comment will be, (just like the others) I will not respond. Find someone else that wants to waste there time with you. Have a good life. And thanks for the debate.
"Fact that Insurance company's have turned their CEO's and Executives into billionaires by denying their policy holders med's and services."
None of the CEOS are directly paid anywhere near what WIll Ferrell or Tiger Woods make in a year. The CEOs are the heads of corporations. They didnt deny any of my loved ones when they had claims that were listed within the contract.
"... its because of Emotional views that slavery ended,.gave Woman the right to vote. It was those same emotions that gave black ppl civil rights. "
That is incorrect thinking. Human rights are fundamental not emotional. We are all created equal. The government cannot give you human rights it can merely let go off the constraint it placed upon those people
Apparently, the democratic party which founded the KKK and passed the Jim Crow laws didnt see African Americans as human beings
LOL...Ok I was going to leave you alone after your last comment, but I cant help but respond to this one. LOL...OK you do know that the Democratic party of the South is dead right? That it was the Southern Democrats that fought civil rights? That even Lyndon Johnson said the signing of this bill will end the Democratic party in the south. That it was a Democrat, Emmanuel Celler that made the bill stronger. You Republicans love to cherry pick history. LOL. YOU FAIL AGAIN! But nice try. LOL
I just told you about the atrocities created by government. You glorify bigger government. Btw, would you vote for a party that was called the Nazi party if it were to change its ways?
oh my fucking god your just outright dumb.... i cant explain the amount of stupidity your spewing out... all i have to say is shut the fuck up so people dont have to look at your dumb comments all day
oh really congratz now maybe you should take a few English courses to maybe learn to read the health care bill then take a nice lil logic class and you might actually make a little sense?
a native speaker will more commonly use things such as your instead of you're because guess what they dont give a fuck about it... jackass try and do a better job understanding
not sensitive just easily annoyed by ignorant people that think they are right ;) so goodbye my good friend reply if you like i however will not waste my time arguing with someone that with all the facts in front of them would not accept it if it was correct ;) have a nice day and just move if you dont like the healthcare if you know a diff language.
The fact that nothing can be more efficient than a perfectly competitive industry...... which equates to a zero long run economic profit for the firms w/ no bureaucratic induced dead weight loss.
Ok i was going to leave you alone like the other guy but you post 3 posts and the last one just set me off- EVEN THE GOD DAMN GUY THAT WAS THE FATHER OF CAPITALISM SAID IT WOULD NOT WORK IF IT WAS COMPLETELY FREE MARKET no shut the fuck up jesus christ perfect example: electricity now i would love for you to go back to the early days of power companies and see the amount of power lines that were all over cities and crossing each other and blah blah blah just look up some pics, very inefficient
wow........just wow. I never thought the "ddgfshysgfgefgyeyge" argument could be utilized so effectively. FYI, its called technological advancement. Who said I was a pure neoclassical economist? I'm a New Keynesian.
axe: I agree that your idea of a "perfectly competitive industry" may bring about bliss to the world. Unfortunately, humans are very greedy and a "perfect" business world is something belonging in fairy tales as insurance conglomerates are dominated by sociopathic fat white men who only care about dominating their industry in order to fill their pockets with more gold, regardless of how many middle and lower class people they grind to dust under the heals of their shoes. wake up
The interaction of numerous aggressively competitive agents with an ever limited set of barriers and high information flow LEADS to zero long run economic profit. The risk adjusted abnormal return will be nullified by competitive forces .
"sociopathic fat white men" Way to generalize.
Fyi, I dont need to WAKE up. Ive taken 4 doctoral courses in economics. You need to stop being so biased and not give emotionally charged responses. Ignorance is bliss... isnt it?
you obviously have never been in a board meeting in one of the fortune 500 companies if you do not think they are primarily full of sociopaths with no care in the world other than making more money for themselves. Efficiency for them means maximizing profit, it does not imply sustainability. And certainly they are not concerned about FAIR market competition, competition to them means driving the competition to bankruptcy.
you arent fooling anyone, you merely had a conservative prof for your "4" (LOL) econ courses. You need to readmore b/c obviously you gained a very conservative-biased view about economics from your whole 4 classes, lol! I am curious, what school did you go to? I cant imagine a graduate level economics department that allows such absurdities to be taught as if they hold any relevance to reality. I assume you were in america, most likely in texas, was it texas A&M or maybe baylor?
Before my 4 graduate level courses, I had 7 undergraduate economics courses. I seriously doubt MIT is considered hyper-conservative. How exactly is NEW KEYNESIAN DSGE modeling .... conservative economics? Maybe if I was doing RBC modeling. You are totally ignorant.
also please dont pretend that your degree is worth anything, I have undergrads in physics & pure math and then stayed in physics for my PhD but I dont go around bragging about it, I let my actions talk for me an that will do much better at convincing people of your mental capabilities more than spouting off saying that you took 4 classes at university. You do realize how silly that sounds? That would be like if i went around claiming to be an philosophy expert because of the 5 required courses
My graduate work was in mathematical finance. I took 4 graduate economics course whilst finishing my math requirements. I'm currently working on complex adaptive systems.
As a physicist, you disagree with the intra-temporall efficiency of perfectly competitive firms. Beautiful.
If the government wants zero economic profit w/ incurring bureaucratic induced dead weight loss, they would try to to make the service that is provided approach homogeneity.
Risk adjusted greed has been the source behind most process and product innovation. I think its hilarious that its always the other one thats greedy. You aren't motivated by self interest? What caused the prolonged abnormal market power of the insurance industry....... government regulations which effectively restricted interstate competition. Open up interstate/int'l competition and securization... and youll have millions of individuals acting as insurers
..... Creating a homogeneous service. There you go! There will be zero long run economic profit without massive dead-weight loss and a stifling of innovative processes that occur because of massive government bureaucracy and cost control measures, respectively.
I hope this has eliminated your blinding ignorance on the subject.
but now the republicans are the ones that are guility of those thinks that the democratic party was guility of in the past. look at the tea baggers . there whole movement is based on white pride and racism & so is conservatism of today. KKKonservatives. i have read your comments you lack alot of facts which is very common for republicans. LOL
The numerous more times an average person in Japan goes and visits the doctor, in comparison to a U.S. citizen, while also maintaining a lower average cost than in the U.S., is a testament to the powers of PREVENTATIVE MEDICINE. If you really want to cut down on medical expenses, and increase the overall quality of life, as well as life expectancy, early detection of potential ailments is a must. As the old saying goes, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
Dont you just hate the monopolization of the health care industry by state restrictions. I agree with you ... we need to let the free market ideology in the health care industry reign supreme.
Health is not a commodity to be bought and sold on Wall Street. Its not Gold or Food that you can put a value of profit on. No company should be allowed to profit off of the wellness of someone else for pure profit sake. Insurance company's are leeches, instead of blood they want our money. They take and take for years on end and love you as long as you dont file a claim, but just as soon as you do they look for as many loopholes as they can to deny you.
No, my argument is no that its a necessity its a RIGHT. Unlike food, which anyone can grow or raise on their own if it gets to expensive. Health care you are left in the hands of others. You cant just go make your own med's, or do your own operation or give yourself a mammogram. In this country we have the RIGHT to Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness. And you cant have Life without health care. Health Care is a Right, Not a privilege.
Listen. You can create a contract with a group of your neighbors. Pay them an amount based on your risk factors and be insured. They would partition of the contract to spread the risk
I want universal health care coverage but I'm not sold on the public option. We don't have a capitalist health care system. We have a corporatist health care system. If you want an example of capitalist health care just look at Switzerland and the Netherlands. Private market with gov't as the ref.
agree 100% Switzerland's system is a great example of what we need here. The Conservative party there fought to keep it from going through, just like they are here and now that they have it they dont know why they fought against it. Its one of the best systems in the world and the people love it. The people pay the Government who uses 7% of the money to run the system, unlike America, we pay insurance companys and they take 34% off the top and puts it in the pockets of CEO's and stockholders
Numbnuts... they have monopoly power because of the government. If you allow for interstate/intl competition, they will have zero economics profit in the long run. ZERO. What is more efficient than that? The answer is nothing. You have been owned hardcore ;)
Moron...The government has nothing to do with them taking advantage of the american people. You dumb ass republicans keep say that Government needs to get out of the way of business, and you see what happens when they do. Businesses take the American people for everything they can. And to say that "they will have zero economic profits in the long run" is a fucking joke. The Insurance companys have for the past 40+ years had been able to do what they want and you see where that got us. CLOWN! :o)
The market for Health Care should be like the market for cell phones.
Every year the price goes down and the quality goes up.
Why? Because the free market is not distorted anywhere near as much as it is in health care (U.S. or otherwise) by socialistic interventions and regulations
The US has become an international joke and disgrace. Corporate/business power own and run the country, own the political parties and serve only themselves.
Single payer is known to work in countless countries yet in the US they wouldnt even allow it to be brought up and the corporate media served their masters and kept quiet as well.
The US is circling the drain due to corporate rule. If the people remain quiet and ignorant, it will in the end go down that drain.
What are you talking about? We have the best 'golden parachutes' for CEO's who do nothing but fail! See Home Depot in 2008(?). What is 'Fritz' Henderson going to walk away with?!?
We here in the US all have the same sickness GREED! Health care here has gotten so out of control that the only way i can pay for dental care is by staying a month in latin america for the same exact care. I almost died of Leptoscirocis there too, I would have died here since i don't have health insurance, worst of all I do have a few bucks to rub together! Hey conservatives stop living in the 1920's. I really need to look into retiring in Spain.
Fuck I love living in Canada =), Its fun to watch Americans tear eachother apart over Universal Healthcare. I really don't see whats "Socialist" about it, or why ANYONE wouldnt want to have it. ITS 1000 times BETTER than what ever the fuck health care you guys have right now. How can you all WANT to keep paying these enormous hospital bills? WHY? WHY!?!? I've never even seen a hospital bill in Canada. You all want everthing to be free, why not healthcare? Your fuckin ridiculous people!
I know, I'm an American and I'm so ashamed of my country especially the conservatives who don't want to take any role models from great countries like England, Canada, Japan, and Switzerland. I love the idea of socialized medicine but I would even compromise with a universal single payer system that covers everyone. We're not all ridiculous just the people in power who can't take a fucking hint from smarter countries like your own.
My uncle has had to pay over $200 a month for medication. He's had to move back in with his mother and he can't work due to his injury. His mother (Retired widow) is helping him fork out the money to get medicine he needs.
The companies excuse for not paying? "You can walk, so you're not disabled."
If you think the American healthcare system is good, you my friend, are what the LARGE majority of the world would call a fucking idiot.
we traveled to china & japan trip in a couple years ago.
my husband got food poisoning in china & found out when we got to japan.
he was hospitalized in japan for 4 days.
we had no idea how much it would cost us since he didn't have travel insurance.
the total bill came out about 1,500$.
his insurance in us didn't cover the cost because it is too cheap. i think it was more than 2,000$ to be covered by insurance back home. of course, it would only cover a portion of it anyway
The countries with socialized or universal health care made an ethical and moral decision to make the health and well-being of its people a right of their citizenship. It is just like providing for primary and secondary education, providing for a common defense, maintain roads and infrastructure, regulating monetary policy, etc...These are things that governments should have a vested interest in by promoting the general welfare of the people.
How come the US supposedly 'can't' pay for it, but so many European countries can? It's a matter of prioritizing. While health care is being pushed to the side, the US is waging two expensive wars that are nowhere near over. FlatulenceFox (interesting name by the way :P) makes a great point: the true character of a nation shows in what fundamental rights it allocates to its citizens. When people have a right to life, it's more than logical they should have a right to medical treatment too.
@AnnaMayaHouse: I said this before. If you remove the two wars, where one is costing 3 trillions dollars and the other one, whatever amount, you can absolutely pay for healthcare.
"How come the US supposedly 'can't' pay for it, but so many European countries can?" - "...the US is waging two expensive wars that are nowhere near over."
First of all that is a false choice: go bankrupt by providing universal care or keep the status quo.
It is pretty funny that we are the country who is up to our ceilings in debt while other industrialized nations who are providing universal care are doing just fine staying out of the red.
Secondly, slaves, especially in the US, got no health care at all. I am sure many of your cohorts on the right would accept your modest proposal of reenacting slavery if they could.
Third, and here is the shit kicker, those who make the argument about the cost are being most disingenuous, especially when it comes to their real opposition to universal health care. Please not that we went down this same road in 1993-1994. This country was just fine then financially speaking, but still there was the same vehement and visceral opposition to health care eform then as it is now.
Same goes for medicine in sweden. We subsidize medicine so that you never have to pay more than roughly 150$ a year for medicine. All medicine is sold by government stores. And all medicine is bought by a government company, giving the country a very good bargaining position since we buy in bulk. Medicine is therefore cheaper here, even without the subsidy. And turns out in polls lately, our state-run pharmacies are the most popular brand of stores in the country.
I know americans think government sucks by default, but why is it then that many of us over in Europe dont think that way?
Sure we have a dislike of politicians but that´s inherent in the nature of a politician. However we do like our government services. For example in sweden all bottled alcohol is sold only by government owned stores. Alcohol in sweden is not cheap but people still like the government stores and no effort is made to change the way it is.
Finally TYT brings up the fact that the world outside america is not all banana republics or similar.. In fact Europe is a quite lovely place, even when compared to the US.
The lies that conservatives have spread about canadian and western european healthcare really offends me tbh.
Meanwhile the american system is laughable. You have private insurance working as a useless middleman between patient and doctor only there to grab peoples money.
How much of my money is spent on crap like x factor, Britain had talent, strictly, strictly on ice, soaps and the multitude of other crappy TV shows. Dont get me wrong when it comes to news coverage the BBC is great and the science/nature documentaries do make the TV licence defendable but until reality TV is buried with a fuckin spade I'm not 100% happy with how the money is spent.
To the people who like reality TV- death is too good for you miscreant wretches.
Yeah the BBC used to piss me off. But then you look at other countries and corporations have hoodwinked the whole populace to think wacky things.
The BBC is the difference between why out 2 countries that went to war, one still has a large portion of there population that belives Saddam was personally involved in 9/11.
The other country does not belive the lies and has national views more closely based on reality. Thus has never had 'non-existence cause' modern day terrorists.
You are very mistaken. The examples you have cited: "Britain's Got Talent" and "X Factor" are funded by and appear on ITV, not the BBC. So far the BBC is the only channel to receive all its money from TV licensing. Hence no adverts.
Quality control is a big issue at BBC, not that I'm a spokesperson or anything, but they do make sure there is a healthy variety of programming to appeal to most people.
I wonder if the VAs at Walter Reed Army Medical Center were happy with the rats, cockroaches, stained carpets, cheap mattresses, black mold, and no heat or water? I bet they loved their socialist health care.
The only reason that got that bad was because it is for service personnel. They are conditioned to just deal with it and not complain. If something like that began happening to most civilians, all hell would break loose. No one can just tell us to shut up and take it; don't rock the boat.
Because of this characteristic, civilians need to keep an eye on the military.
There are plenty of elderly and mentally ill people in facilities with horrible conditions also, not just service personal. Anything the government touches turns to crap. Even our military sucks. The government spends billions and billions on it and they can't even win a war against guys on camels.
Our military is set up to fight a war in which the enemy looks like the enemy. The most effective answer is one which the world cannot stomach.
"Anything the government touches turns to crap."
That's our fault! We're supposed to be watching. Eternal vigilance, remember that? It's the duty of the citizenry to monitor and inform one another. We spend billions on roads every year that should last longer, but don't. That's thanks to business (corruption).
This is the way the American capitalist system works, though. It is designed to over compensate people "they" deem worthy, like doctors, and other professionals. We say education is the conerstone of society, and reward education on some level, but the person who teaches thousands of rich doctors is no where close to them economically. Do you really think a doctor should be paid 5 times as much as the person who keeps the hospital clean?
Yes, the doctor spent over a decade aquiring the skills and knowledge required to provide the services he does. Any meatbag can push a broom or wipe a counter, yet many won't even do that to make a living.
Just how much should we devalue blue-collar people. How much pay is enough for these doctors. Remember, in many cases the hospitals/medical companies will reimburse their schooling for x# of years service. What motivates them to do it. Public service? Hardly!
How much pay is enough? As much as the traffic will bear. They provide a valuable service and should be rewarded for it. If one wants to compete for their business, then put in the required study and associated effort. Everyone cries out about the evil medical services providers withholding their services for payment, but no one wants to put forth the effort required to compete in their business.
Enough screwing around. Their pay shouldn't be free market based. Much of their need for pay is for educational reimbursement and liability. A general practitioner making between $75-150,000, depending on location, wouldn't be the worst thing.
I just see no reason why we should mortgage ourselves for their 'market value'.

Isnt it true that the real problem with the usa healthcare is that the citizens dont want to pay more then 16% taxes?
In Sweden we pay 40%+ taxes but it all goes back in form of healthcare and we know when we get old we have money to survive
We dont need to have big house, 5 cars....

The American Scheme: We live in a system that is specifically designed to transfer debt from the top to the bottom and to transfer wealth from the bottom to the top--the Medical-Industrial Complex is one institution that contributes to this pyramid scheme.

having lived in Australia now for the last year, I can say... the Republicans are huge liars.
SashaHasani1990 1 year ago 4
How hard is it to understand... Public health is just like having a fire department. It is ALWAYS there if and when you need it. Have I had a fire put out lately? NO. But do I complain if they have to put out the fire of my neighbor's? NO. Have I needed police protection? NO. But it is always available to me when I need it. Same thing with socialized medicine. Some people will need it more than others.
SashaHasani1990 1 year ago 3
As a public health student in an international school I can tell you that there is no perfect system. America does have the best medical care in the world, the problem access. If we were to implement a fairer system where everyone would have access we would have to sacrifice part of this because the resources wouldn't be there. The MRI in Japan is less expensive because it is what we would consider "outdated" even though it still get the job done albeit not for extreme cases. Thats one ex

I also agree with Bill Maher.
I think that what we eat plays a big part re: how much we go to the doctor.
Some illnesses ABSOLUTELY need medicine. That's one thing. But others are LIFESTYLE ILLNESSES.
Change your lifestyle. Get more sleep. Drink more water. Eat more healthily. Your immune system will strengthen, and you won't have to use as much of that medicine that drives the illness into your body (rather than letting your immune system beat it) and you'll need less trips to the doctor.

ct'd: I say this coming from New Zealand.
New Zealand has quite a highly socialized healthcare system. It's run by ACC - Accident Compensation Corporation - which is paid for BY YOUR TAXES.
Now, to visit a GP (general practitioner) your bills are subsidized, but you do have to pay something.
If you have to be seen after hours, it's by and large FREE.
FUCK any system that makes its residents pay needlessly!

The Japanese medical system is actually pretty good. I say that as a guy living in Japan.
It doesn't have a true socialized healthcare system - we have to pay into a system - but it's a hybrid system, and it works pretty well.
We pay a certain amount of healthcare. 70% of my medical bills are taken care of.
I have to pay into the system, but even if I'm running behind on my payments, they STILL cover me.
Japan looks after its residents!!!

What is their fraud adjusted costs.
axe863 2 years ago
Have a good life.

you obviously have never been in a board meeting in one of the fortune 500 companies if you do not think they are primarily full of sociopaths with no care in the world other than making more money for themselves.

Private market with gov't as the ref.
mqf0489 2 years ago 2
agree 100% Switzerland's system is a great example of what we need here. The Conservative party there fought to keep it from going through, just like they are here and now that they have it they dont know why they fought against it. Its one of the best systems in the world and the people love it. The people pay the Government who uses 7% of the money to run the system, unlike America, we pay insurance companys and they take 34% off the top and puts it in the pockets of CEO's and stockholders
specialjr11 2 years ago 2
Numbnuts... they have monopoly power because of the government. If you allow for interstate/intl competition, they will have zero economics profit in the long run. ZERO. What is more efficient than that? The answer is nothing. You have been owned hardcore ;)
axe863 2 years ago
Moron...The government has nothing to do with them taking advantage of the american people. You dumb ass republicans keep say that Government needs to get out of the way of business, and you see what happens when they do. Businesses take the American people for everything they can. And to say that "they will have zero economic profits in the long run" is a fucking joke. The Insurance companys have for the past 40+ years had been able to do what they want and you see where that got us. CLOWN! :o)

"Businesses take the American people for everything they can."
Do you think that those actions were capitalism?
You obviously didn't understand my arguments.
axe863 2 years ago
Government is the problem.
Free market health care is THE solution.

CShake420 2 years ago 2

I think he means that it is excellent as it debunks some of the myths that are preventing true healthcare reform from happening.

FlatulenceFox 2 years ago 8
All the ethics and morals in the world won't get you a stick of gum (let alone health care) if you cant pay for it.
Unless your talking about reenacting slavery?
MikePresents2 2 years ago
How come the US supposedly 'can't' pay for it, but so many European countries can? It's a matter of prioritizing. While health care is being pushed to the side, the US is waging two expensive wars that are nowhere near over. FlatulenceFox (interesting name by the way :P) makes a great point: the true character of a nation shows in what fundamental rights it allocates to its citizens. When people have a right to life, it's more than logical they should have a right to medical treatment too.
AnnaMayaHouse 2 years ago
@AnnaMayaHouse: I said this before. If you remove the two wars, where one is costing 3 trillions dollars and the other one, whatever amount, you can absolutely pay for healthcare.
clemssss 2 years ago
AnnaMayaHouse - I totally agree.
and I think you've answered your own question.
"How come the US supposedly 'can't' pay for it, but so many European countries can?" - "...the US is waging two expensive wars that are nowhere near over."
MikePresents2 2 years ago
All the more reason to lower costs. Universal care costs less or did you miss that part?
grahamhg 2 years ago
First of all that is a false choice: go bankrupt by providing universal care or keep the status quo.
It is pretty funny that we are the country who is up to our ceilings in debt while other industrialized nations who are providing universal care are doing just fine staying out of the red.
Secondly, slaves, especially in the US, got no health care at all. I am sure many of your cohorts on the right would accept your modest proposal of reenacting slavery if they could.
FlatulenceFox 2 years ago
Third, and here is the shit kicker, those who make the argument about the cost are being most disingenuous, especially when it comes to their real opposition to universal health care. Please not that we went down this same road in 1993-1994. This country was just fine then financially speaking, but still there was the same vehement and visceral opposition to health care eform then as it is now.
FlatulenceFox 2 years ago
I think I've stated my point a little too strongly.
I believe we should move towards a universal heath care. It's long over due.
But to put blind faith into our corporate manipulated government to do it for us is what worries me.
As our economy worsens (and It will), my point will become clearer.
MikePresents2 2 years ago

It's simple -
Wealthy country's have better health care than poorer country's.
The US is on the edge of bankruptcy.
If we don't get our economy back together, we're going to have POOR health care.(no matter how many bills are passed)
"Health care reform" is treating the symptoms and not the problem.
IT'S ALL ABOUT THE ECONOMY.
Don't be traumatized into giving up your freedoms just because a few crooks looted our economy.
MikePresents2 2 years ago
I would agree with you if when your economy was strong that your system was better... it wasn't though.
Demaestr0 2 years ago 2
Same goes for medicine in sweden. We subsidize medicine so that you never have to pay more than roughly 150$ a year for medicine. All medicine is sold by government stores. And all medicine is bought by a government company, giving the country a very good bargaining position since we buy in bulk. Medicine is therefore cheaper here, even without the subsidy. And turns out in polls lately, our state-run pharmacies are the most popular brand of stores in the country.
Thealazor 2 years ago 3
I know americans think government sucks by default, but why is it then that many of us over in Europe dont think that way?
Sure we have a dislike of politicians but that´s inherent in the nature of a politician. However we do like our government services. For example in sweden all bottled alcohol is sold only by government owned stores. Alcohol in sweden is not cheap but people still like the government stores and no effort is made to change the way it is.
Thealazor 2 years ago 5
Well, several reasons.
Just 1:
Big Business & evangelicals, probably should be at odds as Jesus' main talking points being against materialism.
But both these groups HATE free markets and free thinking.
Big business does not want to people to buy things like clean transport and the Evans don't want you to think and believe evolution etc..
Both groups end games req. & utilise the same politics united under the republican party.
That's just 1 factor for this bizarre gulf in public thinking.
CmdrTobs 2 years ago
Finally TYT brings up the fact that the world outside america is not all banana republics or similar.. In fact Europe is a quite lovely place, even when compared to the US.
The lies that conservatives have spread about canadian and western european healthcare really offends me tbh.
Meanwhile the american system is laughable. You have private insurance working as a useless middleman between patient and doctor only there to grab peoples money.
Thealazor 2 years ago 10
True... try to find a Canadian willing to trade his health care system for yours.
Even that lady they had in the attack ads from Canada wouldn't trade her system for the USA one.

To the people who like reality TV- death is too good for you miscreant wretches.
hammy606 2 years ago 2
Yeah the BBC used to piss me off. But then you look at other countries and corporations have hoodwinked the whole populace to think wacky things.
The BBC is the difference between why out 2 countries that went to war, one still has a large portion of there population that belives Saddam was personally involved in 9/11.
The other country does not belive the lies and has national views more closely based on reality. Thus has never had 'non-existence cause' modern day terrorists.
CmdrTobs 2 years ago 3

I bet they loved their socialist health care.
anarchyfortheusa 2 years ago
The only reason that got that bad was because it is for service personnel. They are conditioned to just deal with it and not complain. If something like that began happening to most civilians, all hell would break loose. No one can just tell us to shut up and take it; don't rock the boat.
Because of this characteristic, civilians need to keep an eye on the military.
jefevonQ 2 years ago
There are plenty of elderly and mentally ill people in facilities with horrible conditions also, not just service personal. Anything the government touches turns to crap. Even our military sucks. The government spends billions and billions on it and they can't even win a war against guys on camels.
anarchyfortheusa 2 years ago

Do you really think a doctor should be paid 5 times as much as the person who keeps the hospital clean?
hollaboutit 2 years ago
"five times"
that number seems a bit low in way too many cases
jefevonQ 2 years ago
being generous, to say the least, didn't want to exaggerate.

Yes, the doctor spent over a decade aquiring the skills and knowledge required to provide the services he does. Any meatbag can push a broom or wipe a counter, yet many won't even do that to make a living.
franksnow79 2 years ago
Just how much should we devalue blue-collar people. How much pay is enough for these doctors. Remember, in many cases the hospitals/medical companies will reimburse their schooling for x# of years service. What motivates them to do it. Public service? Hardly!
jefevonQ 2 years ago
How much pay is enough? As much as the traffic will bear. They provide a valuable service and should be rewarded for it. If one wants to compete for their business, then put in the required study and associated effort. Everyone cries out about the evil medical services providers withholding their services for payment, but no one wants to put forth the effort required to compete in their business.
franksnow79 2 years ago
Enough screwing around. Their pay shouldn't be free market based. Much of their need for pay is for educational reimbursement and liability. A general practitioner making between $75-150,000, depending on location, wouldn't be the worst thing.
I just see no reason why we should mortgage ourselves for their 'market value'.
