  • I like. Nicely done...

  • Geez! There are too many idiotic comments on here about the drumming and how it's supposedly too loud. The guy has tremendous talent and the entire trio sounds outstanding! Keep up the great work, guys!

  • Very nice. Good keytar work on the other vids. I think my guitar teacher actually invented the keytar. :)

  • We're just learning this in Jazz Ensemble. Say what you want, but this is a tough piece. I think these guys did a great job.

  • for all damn so-called jazzmens - ya know what's fusion? U think drummer here just ain't know how to play it well? Try out MSMW Miles Behind.

  • don't you just love it when everyone has an opinion? I've played this song like a million times because it's a supercool peace of music, but don't expect any musician to play it as superb as Chick Corea and return to forever did. I think these guys deserve a little bit more respect, because it's just pretty heavy shit to play. Please keep your narrow minded frustrated opinions to yourself and let them play. Jazz police: f*ck off!!!

  • i couldn't agree with your more i dont look at these negative opinions as opinions but as BASHINGS!

  • the drummer has only some funk breaks instead of jazz ones and i think it sounds really great

  • Wtf about the bad comments here? This song is normaly played by the best musicians of the world and they still managed to make it pretty darn good. It's not the drummers fault if the audio mix is awfull. In a trio setting the guy did what he needed to do. Grats to these guys!

  • just needs to work on his time really.

  • I'm going to take the of the road on this one. The drummer definitely has a LOT of talent. I think he overdid it a bit, but not to the point where it wasn't good. Excellent performance.

  • yes majskorv2000!!!

    good job you guys!!

  • Ugh, lots of jazz police here.

  • hey people, get real... Drummer just ROCKS ;)

  • Not liking the percussion at all. Should be a steady 4/4 beat in the breakdown in my opinion. But that is just my opinion - the great thing about jazz.

Pianist is clearly talented but is with the wrong players.

  • Oh, mein Gott..ich liiiiiiiiiiiiebe es!

  • decent.. its normal collage jazz. but yea they will be good in a few years like paulibaer said. and yea the drummer... dude its not YOUR song...... your too loud and you lost the pocket for a sec on the breakdown part. he gotta chill out..... but the piano guy. your improv didnt have a structure you just kinda "went" good tho. and i didnt hear you ever go "out" but other wise good :) 4 stars

  • @kalluafc...Why don't you pitch your smut somewhere-else? Clueless are YOU?

  • The drummer's good.

But he's MUCH too busy. So many hits he's losing his pocket. Too loud too.

I know a highschool sophmore who did a much better drum part to this. Flawless.

  • his name was joel hawkins

  • Relax... that's typical college jazz, give em a few years and they'll kick ass

  • hell of a drummer, huh? xD

    nice piano rendition, though...

  • can any of you haters play it better than the "awful" drummer

  • No, but he should.

  • that drummer sounds awful

  • Oh damn I love this song. Very good performance by the way!

  • It's a pretty good version of spain, and the pianist is very good, but the drummer is really trying to hard, instead of playing music and feeling it.

  • I heard his last performance, just one night before this one, was a death metal act evening ;)

  • lolz

  • why don't you shoot yourself in the head then ?

  • not chick corea but then it's not meant to be. good stuff I agree with you all but lets not get to anal they are good muso's and i bet that drummer can play good metal the trio is better than many, music is to be enjoyed

  • Terrible.

Reason: Keep a steady tempo...or just continue to WOW elementary school children.

  • Groove-wise it'd be easy for one that loves percussion, however it'd be difficult if one/two people can do it, and the drummer 'just happens' to be a metalhead that can't pull off grooves like that.

I plan to play this song for my exam, so I've got about 8 months to practice this, studies aside. :D It's a beautiful piece, I just hope the other performers will be able to play it too.

    Great performace btw.

  • I agree with the comment about the drummer... not in "the pocket" the whole time... but sounds like the venue was the problem? or the mix?

  • I think the drummers Latin-based ideas were really good, and would probably be very fun to play with. Unfortunately, like one person before me: he tends to rush his phrasing. The other thing would be it just sounds like he's trying to do too much. And the busier things get, the less likely they are to pocket properly.

Having said that, the trio sounds like a good trio, and they sound like they'd put on a good show.

  • I was mentioning myself to

    "blogdocrato"

  • Spain is such a great work. I'm glad people continue to play it. It's truly an amazing piece.

  • To be candid, that comment was totally uncalled for. Your just a pretentious prick. This guy is definately good. Jesus Christ

  • I'm really not glad with this post... i'm just planning to play Spain with my band, and if I barely get close to this fine work of free style it will sounds nice

And please, of course it is a fine job!

  • blogdocarto These guys Trying to play better but if you're implying that your Trio does better Job,Then why don't you post your clips and let us be the Judges.

  • great independence and latin feel by the drummer but he tends to rush his phrases just a bit...and yer..its pretty loud but i think its because of the recording and acoustics.

i think the drummer comes from a metal background...hahah those 30second rolls across the kit...nice job as a collective!

  • Of course this isn't Chick but these guys are doing one of my favorite songs, and they're doing it well

anybody who criticizes these dudes is jealous cause these dudes are actually on a stage. bravo,

  • its not chick corea !

  • No, i hope so. He looks like the pianostudent from Fame.

  • I love this song. The bass line...perfect.

  • entero fome

  • I thought the drummer was pretty good, I have a recording of Chick playing this with his late electric band, the latin drumming is insane. I bet in that concert itself, it would have been pretty good. Pianist a bit choreographed and staccated.

  • I hate to agree but yes....the drumming is too loud for such a piece. Anyhow, good playin' guys. And who did the arrangement? Beautifully done!

  • For this kind of piece, the drumming is too loud.

  • Drummers should never "dictate" tempo...they should only lay out a rhythmatic canvas in which musicains can create within an assumed time frame...In music, time is relative to what feels best for the collective group, especially small combos. This is why orchestras need conductors because there are too many people to have a concensus on what tempo "feels" best.

  • for me the drummer was the best musicians in this peace

  • I agree he took the most chances

  • lol

  • great performance, very good pianist

  • i think the drummer is doing too much filling and everything. He should play original rhythm that the soloist would be on solo not the drummer.

  • good drummer. but the snare and all the accents are too loud. for me the drummer is too hard, he should play more soft. why play every accent in the uni-sono part? better play quarter notes....just my intention...

  • lol? better play quater notes? Are you kiddin'? This guy is awesome, one of the best drummers i've ever seen!

  • Very Good drummer !!!

  • What do I always say?

    Cancer?!

Good recreation of the tune. Love the Drummer, I wish I was there. Thanks for the share.

  • oh man that drummer is tight like daaaaaaayeeeem, where you live???? i wana jam!!!

  • Playing this for marching band this year. Good song.

  • Amazing piano playing right there!

  • holy shit...i know him and took from him for a lil while...mike silverman... awesome to hear you again! - Peter S. (don't wanna post the whole last name)

  • Hey Peter, good to hear from you, man. Give me a call! -Mike

  • yeah, i'm pretty sure the guy was using a fresh concept, commonly known as 'sarcasm'.

the drummer on this video fucking rocks, pianists not too shabby either. good shit.

  • this is a pretty awsome song, we are playing it for a marching show, and it sounds awsome

  • So, so, awesome.

  • Nice job, guys! It's a shame that you took the same capture of the pianist a couple of times, though ;- ) Great skills you got there, I like it!

  • agreed, this is one of the best arrangements I've heard of the song. Great performance!

  • really great right hand boy!! still, why does he keep his left hand out of the first part of the intro? any way, he's really good!!

  • Yeah, beautiful!

  • great!i didnt know this trio

  • This is a great arrangement of the song.
