So many people complained over the years, even til now, over why S could not just catch the missile. This scene explained it and it was mentioned earlier about the missle avoidance system. I wish at least they would have put this as a deleted scene in the uberDVD set, it would have explained a lot; but THANK YOU very much for putting it on youtube and I can now show it!
I remember watching a vhs copy (recorded straight from a tv broadcast of superman) where Luthor is feeding meat to pet lions in a pit (you dont see the lions). Another scene was at the end where Ms Tesmocah (sp?) was about to be fed by the same lions but superman comes and rescues her.
it should be noted not only did john ratzenberger played the controller in both films of superman but also rhea pearlman was stated to be the woman laughing when zod throws superman into her car while eating KFC i think shes the one who says my car im still paying for it both cheers alumni in superman II before there ever was a show called cheers fantastic
That's Phil Brown who said "Jersey? What the hells in Jersey"? You remember him as Uncle Owen in star wars. I met him at a star wars con in 1997 and he was very nice.
Its nice to hear the full soundtrack with the film in this deleted scene. I remember listening to the soundtrack a lot as a kid and wondering why I never heard the bit before you see him actually chasing the rocket in the theatrical version. I love that piece of music that plays when he starts to chase the rocket. Gets you pumped up and makes you root for him to stop this thing. Down the road I'll bet WB will eventually release ALL the footage someday years from now.
Yeah, I was shocked that they did so many deleted scenes for the Superman films (in the 13 disc set), and yet Superman 1 had nothing really new in terms of scenes. They even included most of the scenes from the other films but then left out specific ones, like in Superman 3 when Superman and the Pamela Stephensons character are um... getting busy. Thankfully YouTube has all of those scenes, but Superman 1 had none here, so that's why I posted them.
I love the look on Reeve's face when the missile soars around him. "What the fu...?"

its great to see this scene and its a shame it isn't available on dvd, but i think the movie works better without it.

The FX when the missile pass and is saw by the woman, looks quite bad, and maybe that's why the secene was cut.

On the second disc of Superman 1 there should be deleted scenes. It's also the second disc in the 13 disc Superman box set.

@undeadnightorc Yeah, I remember that scene when it was first broadcast on ABC though I believe they were panthers in Luthor's Layer.

This should have been in the Deleted Scenes section of the Superman: The Movie 4-disc boxed set.
