  • is that an origianl Hofner or is the icon but you made it look like Pauls?

  • I can't hear the damn bass!

  • @flutterandwow You're clearly not a bass player, then.

  • I found out im a lil' bicurious ;)

  • hah, and you hit the bum note as well! good job man!

  • is hofner contemporary?thanks

  • What I am seeing wrong in this clip is your camera is not positioned so we can see your fretting hand. Can you make sure your camera videos your fretting hand?I am learning and I need to see what and where you fret.I like your vids but maybe you weren't aware of this.Thanks.

  • Agree with those who want to see your fingers on the left hand.

  • this is the Hofner original??? very good

  • An excellent cover of an excellent song! Great job!

  • I like your Hofner. What kind is it? I can't see your headstock so didn't know if it was a "contemporary" version, or the genuine German made 500/1. Just got my Rickenbacker 4001c64s, so the Hofner is next on the list!

  • @ironcitydevildog Contemporary

  • @kuqi320 Sounds good. I'm getting an official German made just because I want the original, but the Contemporarys sound pretty good. My friend has a contemporary and put LaBella Beatle Bass Flats on it and sticks by it.

  • Love the cover dude u were awsome!!! :)

  • hello,

I wanted to know if you could send me photos or a video on how you made the knot of the strap on the handle (given that I also have one strap) please if you can send pictures or video please contact me so I give you my e-mail and send them to me.

    Thanks in advance =)

  • nice if we could see the whole picture

  • great sound, i love hofner basses!

  • omfg what a lovely bass can i have it? :D

  • I like your pick guard.. what model?

  • @TheBeatlesbassman

It looks like a 500/1 vintage '63...but I could be wrong

  • im getting that bass in three weeks, sweet

  • verrry kool

  • GR888888 job!!!

  • pakita nimo unsaun pag tapoy uy

  • the reAl quetion is which hofner model are you using?

  • @helter69skelter how many bass magazines have you seen with him on the front though? i think i only recall ever seeing one.

  • @helter69skelter i think he wouldn't play bass anymore if it didn't matter to him.

  • not to mention he was sing his complicated vocal melodies while he was playing this live. INCREDIBLE!

  • sweet!

  • @aSimulatedHigh it is a violin. It just has pickups a longer neck and bass strings. The idea is to make it sound like an upright bass

  • Your incredible man, what amp are you using? i use a vox t15 reissue, but the vox kensington bass amps, with an upgraded celestion speaker absolutely NAIL the tone 100%

  • how much is that bass

  • @MrTokyojoe150 i got mine for$200 at guitar center

  • @thedrummerdude1000 200 dlls for an authentic hoffner?? damn the US rocks! here in mexico is like 3000 dlls !!

  • @helter69skelter He's not underrated about his songwriting, he's underrated as a bassist.

  • @23Tomay23 Actually he isn't underrated as a Bassist, most people think he is one of the best bass players of all time. Most bassists are influenced by him also.

  • This music is really easy to plya, but really hard to memorize :/

    Goo'goo'goo'joob man

  • Excellent work!!

    Harmony, arrangement, chords..

    Good choice ... thumbs up!

Your bass has elements like the short-scale length and real vintage character. It has a classic sixties retro tone and feel; a small bass with a big sound!!!

  • I want your bass...I just have the icon b bass :(

  • PAUL taught ME how to play Bass guitar!!........

  • It's like Contra bass (standing bass) on an electric bass. Nice cover by the way ^^ I love The Beatles even though I'm only 17 years old ^^

  • @sirpc2 only 17? should have been listening at 2

  • I don't really like the feel of the Hofner bass, I picked one up once and it felt like I was holding a violin or something, I dunno. It just looks like something that belongs in an orchestra

  • @aSimulatedHigh That is precisely why I love it.

  • too bad we can't see it man!

have to get it by ear

    great taste mate

  • man i dont know how paul can play this bass line and sing at the same time!!!!!!!! but great job with the bass....props

  • @shreadhead96 not hard actually, since it always keeps the same rythm.

anyway, try playing blackbird on guitar and singing xD

  • @qwertyuploader lol yes that is a challenge

  • @qwertyuploader Blackbird while singing isn't hard either. Really, nothing is hard when it becomes muscle memory.

  • Is this a hofner ignition bass?

  • @Fiji1000 Uhm. People outside of America also have the internet.

  • Cool! My 11 year old has just learnt this! He plays left handed and would love your bass!!! Paul McCarney is his GOD!!

  • where you got the bass

  • I WANT A BASS! :D

    bombombombom :D

  • @TheLonelyMountains My goodness, join the club. BOMBOMBOM ;)

  • good. this artist has performed -- very staccato. paul slid notes as much as possible. it's not beginner or intermediate stuff. check out other songs like "lovely rita" legato bass to the extreme-- masterful.

  • @Fiji1000 fuck u u fuking rasist bitch u go back 2 ur counrty HELL BITCH

  • It would have been better if you had framed your shot to get the entire guitar. As fascinating as it is to watch what you're doing on the right hand, also seeing what's happening with the left would have been more instructive. Nice sync with the track though.

  • fijisun4me. I own a mid '60's Hofner and I purchased a Vox T25 Bass amp. They only made them for a couple of years not too long ago, but it is worth searching out. I think it gives you a pretty decent Beatle tone along with the Hofner. It is a small amp so if you are playing out, it may not suit your needs. Hope that info helps you some.

  • GREAT Job! I second MrDavidfletcher's comment about your accurate rendition of this piece. Could you please share with us more information about the AMP you used for this recording? I have the 62' Vintage Hofner and I am researching what AMP I should buy to get that Beatles sound as accurate as possible. Thanks and once again, GREAT JOB!

  • great job, I love my hofner bass

  • cant hear what your playing because the music is too loud.

  • I got a left handed budget Hofner.

  • pity ur not left handed lol

    nice job dude ;o)

  • Such a 100% accurate rendition. It's a difficult piece. I don't know how you caught all the nuances. Wonderful, absolutely wonderful. It's like the real Paul were playing for us. God bless you and keep up the good work.

  • I hear the Bass very well. And I have to say it sounds VERY good.

  • You Rock!

  • I cant barley hear the Bass over the record... nice job though

  • sounds great I love your gutar!

  • @TheColts99 it`s a bass

  • What is the point of this video? You can't hear the bassist over the Beatles record and you can't see his fretting hand. This seems to be a problem on alot of the videos on You Tube. Turn the damn record down enough so we can hear you play and show your fretting hand unless it's some unique picking thing.

  • you are pretty correct with your words, Harvey. This hands over no sort of lesson on the song, and for any casual youtube viewers it holds no sort of entertainment value. This is one of the simplest walking bass lines EVER, and he's not even showing the fret mappings. I'm not denoting the player, for he has produced some quality videos with some considerably tough lines, but I don't understand this one.

  • Awesome!

  • great cover by the way.... the below descussions side tracked me. lol

flawless grooving with plenty of swing ... ;)

  • Another amazing walking bass by Paulie ! Really good job man !

  • cant see your fingers.

  • good music taste man. what program do you use to record the sound to your computer, by the way?

  • what model hofner is this?

  • Great cover man !

    P.S. I love that bass ....

  • I love the way hofner's sound

  • I love the sound of hofner's

  • exelente tu amigo think the interpretation would have saved your original, very elegant technique to play, and of course you have the original 1963 GERMAN HÖFNER who will win this iron?, yo soy de VENEZUELA under that is too costly to bring to this country $ 2100 here is not easy, I have a violin that does the work EPHIFONE but never like HÖFNER, saludos

  • Perhaps you should get some basis for argument before you make assumptions...

  • I see~Thanks for the info ,dude~

  • hi is that a sun burst finnish? 5 star***** =D

  • An iconic bass line of an iconic Beatles song played (very well!) on the iconic bass guitar. Great stuff.

  • We can't see your fingers work on this one. Great job, though.

  • perfect key!

  • Wunderful! I like it!

  • Forget the haters. This rules!

  • dude. We can't see your left hand at all.

what's the point in posting this video.

  • To show off ?

  • turn the song down and your bass amp up .

  • McCartney was one of the most renowned and paradoxically, because of his fame, one of the most UNDERRATED bass players of all time. He is arguably the best . The most melodic, and technical, especially for someone who didn't read music.

And yes, that's the real thing.

  • Completely agree. The man is so melodically talented, it's almost ridiculous. I grew up listening to the Beatles. But, as I got older, I began to realize that his unique, yet fitting bass lines had a lot to do with what made their music so enjoyable. A Living legend!

  • @BennyHinny all of his bass lines weren't boring either. they were all amazing

  • @BennyHinny you are right im only 10 and i love the beatles they are a living legend!!

  • @hopay4 Umm...I hate to bring the mood down, but they aren't really a _living_ legend... They're a half-living legend.

However, you're right about the legend bit :)

  • @saltek1a I Agree 100% with you!

  • @saltek1a James Jamerson, bitch.

  • @TheEMGAP You're correct-More forgotten, than underrated. A great Bassist who should be (and I think, is) remembered as one of the best. Great resume that didn't translate to the personal success he deserved . Highly influential-one of the best ever, without question.

  • @TheEMGAP ...I was speaking of James Jamerson, here.

  • @saltek1a Arguably is because as much of an outstanding player that he is, he is not the best at what he does, except perhaps vocals. Paul's an AMAZING Bassist, Guitarist, Drummer, etc *he does it ALL!!* and his voice is phenomenal but I think everyone knows "The Who's" bassist is highly perceived as being the best.

  • @MasterSenseiKing The "the best' argument is kind of a dumb argument to have. Nobody will ever agree ever, ever. And in reality there is no best. Everyone might have a personal best, but that's as far as it goes.

  • @MasterSenseiKing really? i honestly didn't know that. i new he was good but i didn't think he was up there. p.s i wouldn't really say paul was a phenomenal drummer.

  • good job !

  • Ive wondered if this bass is cheaper in germany to purchase? Whats so better about this bass than the original?

  • Comment removed

  • this bass is the real deal right? The $2,000 german bass guitar

  • Yup, the Icons have black controls

  • I have a original 63 Hofner, and I love it!!!!

  • is an icon?

  • excellent bass playing pal bass looks beautiful and sounds great flatwound strings? take off the pickguard looks even better i took it off mine looks cool like pauls

  • i love the sound of the hofner bass. i recently aquired one for avery reasonable price.

  • can i get a drop d tuning? with this scale of bass ?

  • you are a very good player. thanks for the help.

  • i wish you had shown the neck a little better so we could see what you were playing

  • Suonami i Beatles, suonameli con il basso di Paul ma non suonarmeli col plettro, cazzo!

  • PART 2, Beatles trivia: (1)on the songs Dear Prudence, Back in the USSA and The Balad of John & Yoko Ringo is NOT playing drums...It was Paul...who is a pretty good drummer considering he is not known for it. (2) John Lennon's song "Happy Christmas War is over" is taken almost note for note from a very old balad called "Stewball" which nobody owns because it is a "public domain" melody. You can listen to "stewball on here on youtube

  • Beatles trivia: when paul was young he tried to get into his local church choir....but they said his voice was not good enough LOL. Three of the beatles were born Catholic with the exception of Ringo who was born into the Anglican Church. The Beatles most covered song by other artists was "Yesterday" by Paul...2nd most covered was "Something" by george Harrison. When Harrison died he was worth about 400 million in American dollars.......oops..ran out of space

  • interesting note: as many beatle freaks know Paul never wanted to play bass. He was pretty much forced into it by necessity. When he went to buy his first bass he could not afford the "Gibson Violin shaped bass" he wanted so he bought the Hoffner witch is actually "knock off" of the gibson. A fortunate occurance indeed....that "Hoffner" played a big role in their distinct signature sound.

  • This is not entirely true. Paul wanted a Fender Precision not a Gibson EB1. He could not afford the Fender so he bought the Hofner. The Gibson EB1 was not a true Violin type Bass it was a solid block of Mahogany. In 1956 Hofner developed the 500/1 the first and true hollow body Violin type Bass guitar. Everything else is actually a knock off of the Hofner, not the other way around.

  • wow! i really didn't know that. I can actually say i learned something from watching these vids now. haha

  • very good mayfriend!!!!!!

  • gorgeous sound!

  • BTW- I love your 500/1 roneyrock!

    Well done fellow.

  • most gorgeus guitar ever made

  • Awesome

  • Are you Mark Franklin. You fucking dick.

  • that´s not really the hand i want to see...

    good job anyway!

  • very close..at least your timing is on

  • thats great, i realy want a hofner bass, how much do they typicly cost?

  • Well, That looks like an Icon-B model, that's what I have, which goes for around $400

They sound awesome if you can get 'em in a nice amp as well ;)

  • HalfEatenDimSim

    Hey, Bulldog! woof!

yi r a cheap bullfrog i'm sure yi r jerkin' yir stickie while watchin dees lovely 500/1.

leave the fkn alcohol in peace and go to bed.

Yer pants r wet dirty cunt.

  • that looks like the regular German model to me. I have three of em now...a German, CT and an Icon model.

the regular German model goes around the 2000 dollar range...give or take a couple hundred bucks.

  • my dad has a hofner and ive got a epiphone viola, i play beatles songs with him i actually like the viola sound more than the hofner.. suprising but true

  • I think the epiphone version is better and costs muuuch less

  • Why do you say so?

  • It looks better to me, I don't like the hofner's pickguard and those kinda switch controls, plus i've heard some really good comments about the epiphone viola and it´s cheaper. Oh and I also prefer the color on the epiphone and I love that detail on the bridge.

  • I've had my epiphone viola bass for 9 years, and it sounds very good. It sounds more like a rickenbacker, punchy and tougher.

I think the hofner looks more authentic than the epiphone copy. Also, the current hofners are made far better than Paul's original, thus the price.

  • the best copy is a bakers-copy! its completely hollow exact like the real hofner 500/1 and the best is: it cost only 149EUR !

i compared them and it sounds even better than the contemporary from hofner because this is a semi-hollw bass. the 500/1 is completely hollow, so if you want to have a nice cheap hofner-bass copy buy this!

  • Nothing beats the Epiphone Viola bass........baahahaha!

  • only one thing: the HOFNER !

    ........baahahaha return!!!

  • Can't knock the Epiphone Viola though. I'm a college student and I didn't have nearly enough cash for a Hofner (before they put out a cheaper version). With a little modification and the right strings the Viola works well, but it's no Hofner for sure

  • yea man i got a viola but id still rather have a hofner. frick like when paul bought his first hofner it cost 80 bucks cuz it was a cheap bass. but now its like 3 grand just cuz paul mccartney played it

  • yeah... i had one..... got fed up with it constantly going out of tune and the intonation was always crap :(

best saving up for the real deal i thought.

  • yea paul said that its a pain in the ass that it always goes out of tune yet he still loves it

  • yeah.... unmistakable tone :) definately works for home recording... just not live. lol

  • at my local music store they have a real hofner for 450 dollars

  • Is it the Icon Or the Contemporary Version?

  • nevermind

  • Buy it now!

  • Pretty cool man...you even included Paul's flub during the start of the duet. I'm into the "note for note" thing ,so I can appreciate this stuff. Keep up the good work.

    JB

  • Well played...and to think Mr McCartney played that line and sang lead too... Quality.

If I'd had that lead vocal it would have been a root note every 24 bars :)

  • me gusta tu bajo, que lastima que no se oye tu interpretacion

  • What are you playing that through?

  • I know some of you will go ape about this but Rogue makes a fake Hofner violin bass that plays and sounds excellent. I got mine for $200.00 from Musicians Friend. I have several basses including a Rick 4001 and all I play is the Rogue. It's a short scale so you can really cruise on it. Of course it doesn't say "Hofner" on the peghead but I can live with that.

  • I agree. I love my Ric 4003 but I also love my Rogue.

  • Love the Hofner!

    Great playing

  • how much does a hofner cost?

  • you can get a good epiphone version for 300

  • yeah but how much does the hofner cost?

  • like $2000+

  • btw, Rickenbacker like John Lennon's cost $2500+

  • Cuantos Bajos tenes?
