Hi all! City of Fire arcurrently on Pledge Music, collecting money to record a new album. Burton and the guys are offering CDS's, shirts, autographs, phone calls, VIP tickets and other things for fans to buy in exchange for support. Please spread the word and help Burt! Thank you so much in advance!
@cwalker1978 I am sorry.but comparing Burton to any other vocalist out there is futile. Its not just his voice, but the music and lyrical dimensions he has constructed for the last 20 years is mind blowing. He has not stalled anywhere, but constantly evolving. Maybe Maynard James Keenan is kinda close, but Burton is way up there.,
@pkrishnametal Totally a subjective argument that would go absolutely nowhere.
In my opinion, Jacob Bannon of Converge is my top vocalist overall. Burton has a dynamic vocal range (which I love), but Bannon excels everywhere else (especially in his lyrics). There's passion in his delivery, he has a screaming technique that is hard to come by. He has also done softer, traditional hardcore vocals as well. In his defense, and in spite of his abrasive style, he is not trying to impress anyone.
@pkrishnametal I very much like Burton's album vocals on everything he does, from AotW, FF to this, but I have to make an argument; his live vocals are very poor. I personally think he needs to hire a vocal teacher to fix this. To me, he's a great singer, but he's a bad performer, he needs to fix this.
@pkrishnametal For the most part, I agree with you here. I only really like the lyrics for the epic closer "Final Exit", the rest is stuff I've heard many times before in other metal bands. Call me nostalgic, but I miss the consistency and interest that the concept albums brought about.
@Mythosician06 Final Exit is good. I love how Burton makes reference to Jungian themes like myths, shadows and the solar archetypes in a lot of his songs...Have you listened to Ascension of the Watchers. This guy is a genius.
I saw fear factory in atlanta recently. hadnt ever saw them live. hadnt been in georgia for a long time till recently. can say from experience burton sounds awesome live. mechanize best album since obsolete. to hear demanufacture live was truly incredible. want to see city of fire too. cant find album anywhere. that sucks.
This is MY kind of metal, where the singer actually does his job instead of emmiting animal-like grunts and growls. Would have liked some more interesting guitarwork though, but I'm sure they're still developing their sound!
im a metal drummer myself and ive played F.F and L.O.G and other fast hard songs with my band...when i change scenes and play a slow kinda heavy song it feels awsome to change...i wonder if Gene had a different experience playing somethin slow like this?! definately like wat burton has done though.
@F3rgul 'Mechanize' has a repetitive beat to it, but it shows that they are reinvigorated as a whole, especially on Burton's part. I think it's just a taste of things to come. Mind you I was blown away by the cover of their own song, "Crash Test", which was pretty much spot-on.
But I respect your opinion, I guess we'll have to wait and see?
I think the "repetitive beat" to the Mechanize album is due to the different drummer, which I find to have a boring, typical thrash metal style. Raymond Herrera had excellent feel for melody. Mechanize is the first FF album I have not purchased since Demanufacture and sadly, I do not even have a desire to listen to every single song to make sure there isn't one I like on there somewhere.
"Rising" sounds pretty good, and I'm definitely going to check out more from this band.
@landlightning Gene Hogland is definitely a good drummer, and in some ways really compliments Fear Factory, but the drums sound too organic here. Frankly, Fear Factory sounds a lot more thrashy on Mechanize, and this is a bit of a negative. Raymond sounded better for the band probably because he tuned his drums and thus, his style, to produce a machine-like sound. Oh well, perhaps this is just an infancy in the growth of the newly recreated band.
its good. some will compare them to fear factory. cant see why. no disrespect to anyone but city of fire is mostly sit back with a beer music. i like it though. FEAR FACTORY STILL LEGENDARY. RAYMOND GONE THAT SUCKS. WOLBERS GONE. ABOUT TIME.
I kind of made the same argument (about City & FF) with regards to MegaDaryal's input, except for the part where it's "sit back with a beer music." The approach to City was something far different than the animal we know and love, FF.
BTW, Raymond is a great drummer and all, but Gene has definitely met his welcome as the new guy. Don't care for Christian either, he kind of took control of FF in the previous album and look what happened.
@Mythosician06 they previously were given 4 months to record by the record company for Transgression and it was axed to just 1 & a half months, so they had to rush to get it out, but IMO it was still a great album, Archetype was amazing too, COW & Ray wrote all the music (except the lyrics) I'd say COW and Dino are as good as each other. I just don't understand where all this COW hate comes from.
I didn't express disdain for Christian, I just don't think he overlooked the production process well enough for Transgression. Had it been better produced (the bass and drums were the weak parts, IMO), the album would have been just fine.
These albums, hell, the bands are different in approach from one another. So you can't compare FF to City of Fire, let alone the new FF album, which kicks loads of ass.
Oh and if you got the Deluxe version like I did, then there's definitely a reason why Mechanize tops City Of Fire's release. I like both bands but I remain a huge FF fan of 8 years.
What I don't get is why this comment was down-ranked? There's nothing wrong with having a different opinion, one that is 100% harmless in fact. Whoever did that is simply childish.
If youve listened to and been a fan of ff for as long as theyve been around you may see that the City Of Fire cd has more power to it than new ff, with the latest ff cd most of you are just hearing ff for the 1st time...
I still don't see how they compare, dude. City Of Fire is straight up Hard Rock/Metal, whereas Fear Factory is Thrash/Groove Metal with Industrial overtones. City Of Fire deals with personal lyrical subjects where as Fear Factory, at least now, deals with anti-establishment subjects (against the government, against the marketeers of fear, against the ones who abuse power).
Oh and "more power" is a totally subjective way to put it. I don't think this album tops Mechanize, though.
What a record! It took like six months to get it, but it was worth waiting
