@DenHalteFaan Identical down to the fact that I mined all the ores (and all the gravel near the top layer if I remember correctly, as I still had to make the road from my base to the open mine) and sealed the resulting holes, as well as all the natural caves, with cobblestone all the way down to the bottom? Why would I bother with that if I had an editor? You can also see some of its earlier stages in my "Minecraft silliness" video, during the music parts.
@ussmidget Correct. Repeaters made everything a whole lot better. I've been working on a tutorial for that, but uh... It's on hold at the moment, let's call it. Feel free to check out my Tetris v3 video for a repeater version.
@creeplosion Goddammit, you people and your asking... I'm trying to work on a tutorial for the new version I made, but I haven't gotten anything done with it lately. Once that is done, and I can't tell you when that'll be, it will have very specific instructions on how to make what I made. I don't have sheet music because I play by ear, but I'll try to transcribe it in a familiar format in the tutorial.
@creeplosion Heh. Yeah. Feel free to check my channel for the newer version I made some time ago, after repeaters came out... That's the one I'm trying to make a tutorial for.
@Roxfox hey, i dont mean to bug you but do you plan on posting any videos soon? i dont really meen a repeater tutorial maybe just and update video or no. just wondering
@kingcobrajh I'm trying. It's hard! I've got so much junk going on right now. My "fun things I want to do for the fun of it" list is like a dozen items long, and Minecraft stuff's kinda slipped to the bottom of it because it takes so long. I've barely even played any in the last month!
@Wololo1337hax A repeater works exactly like one set of two NOT gates the way I use them in this tutorial. Instead of two blocks and two torches with redstone between them, you just need the one repeater block. Stay tuned for another, much more in-depth tutorial I'm working on!
@Roxfox dont want to sound pushy or anything but when do you think you'll makes the tutorial with repeters? this is the best tutorial ive seen but i suck with repeaters
@kingcobrajh That's perfectly fine, seeing how I've been talking about it for so long, now. I'm trying to get it done, but it's getting a lot more expansive than I originally planned, requiring that I make a lot more material, and I haven't been able to record anything for some three weeks even if I wanted to. I'm stuck with this reoccuring cold that absolutely refuses to go away, so I can't really use my voice... I'll TRY to get it done soon, but I honestly can't promise anything.
@Roxfox oh ok, it looked like you were swimming up it at the end and i was thinking "does he honestly swim up that every time he wants to get up?" so i mentioned it just in case :P
@bkla93 Note blocks make different sounds depending on the surface underneath them, so no. All of this is obsolete thanks to the new repeater block, anyway!
@Foxtrotwolfwhistle No clue. I still suck at everything redstone. You should ask someone who knows anything about this stuff! Maybe the wiki knows something about it, I don't know.
@Foxtrotwolfwhistle That's exactly what I did. Every 8th of a beat has its own note block slot, even if there's no note there, so there's always an even tempo. However! The last Minecraft update has an awesome redstone repeater block that can be used to great effect! With that, a music sequencer will take up a LOT less space, and a single repeater can be adjusted to have varying degrees of delay, so you no longer need a bunch of empty non-note space.
Thanks a lot. This video has tought me how to do something that's surprisingly more simple than I ever imagined. It's all about the sections of redstone wires that add delays.
Great, but doesn't it matter which way you make the not gates face? What with the north/south quirk. Or perhaps you could use it to create more advanced music with trills or something.
(search MC wiki for redstone circuits, scroll down to north/south quirk if you don't knkow what I'm talking about)
@Snikkeldarm Not really. It would have taken out the step of counting how many clicks I needed, but that process made the whole thing take a mere few seconds longer, at most. Mind that I made this before any of those tutorials and helpful programs existed!
So I was trying to make tetris ingame (the general tune though, not the bassline), looking for a tut on how to wire, and found this wiring tut playing tetris.
@Legirian Heck if I know how those things work! That's why I never used anything like that in the first place. But if you go to the Minecraft wiki's redstone circuits page and look at the "design B OR gate", that's basically what I'm referring to. One of those with only one input will act exactly like two NOT gates after each other, but take up less space and redstone. For some reason...
Just like you, I'm much more visually oriented, I use a lot of music trackers, so really, as long as I know the tempo, I can re-create any song. I just had no clue how to use the redstone wire, as you just showed me c:
@jonassvensson4 I understand that a lot of people want to mess with Minecraft's music blocks, and a lot of them use note charts and weird click-to-note diagrams that people made for the note blocks... But that's where the "musically inclined" bit comes in. I don't have any problem recreating simple melodies by ear, and this tune is very, very simple.
@Phluffey You could either set it up to be a series of chords, put the bass on one note and the melody on the other. I did it by hooking up two redstone wires to the lever, one wire going to the first floor where the melody sits and the other going to the third floor where I put the bass parts.
This is really cool man! I assume that with the design you used, you could essentialy make a song that was in double-time compared to what you have now?
There is amazing program called synthesia (on-screen piano), it can take in midi's and it display notes on labelled keys. May be useful for figuring out notes, you need to google for midi file of song you want and open it in synthesia.
@Pwnapple123 To make it repeat connect last output to input, instead of swith, you may need to 1 more gate to make it work as number of gates have to be odd.
Rather than a separate floor for each instrument, couldn't you link multiple instruments into a single "chord?" For instance, if on the first beat, the "piano" is playing an A, and the "bass" is playing a lower A, just have one of each note block connected to that beat.
This would ensure that notes on separate instruments that should happen at the same time always receive input at the same time, because it's from the same source. Any problem in tempo would be shared by all instruments.
@bmc0607 Absolutely. If you're willing to plot the song out as you go, that's definitely the most efficient way of doing it. But like I said, I had a graphical sequencer in mind, and I put the whole grid down before I started placing the notes, so I couldn't do that. I'm making a new grid right now, and I'm still going with the same system as I haven't decided what song to put on it yet!
@SandburgSpartans I got that that's the song you were talking about as it's the only song in the video. I'm not sure whether I should be insulted or feel pity for you for feeling the need to clarify that. In any case, the original question still doesn't make any sense. Are you sure you're replying to the correct thread of comments...?
@Roxfox Haha, wtf are you talking about? The only thing people want to know is the name of the song that the blocks were playing. And I don't know if you just joking or what, but what song was playing?
@SandburgSpartans So you weren't replying to the correct thread, as I suspected. The question I was replying to was "what surface did you use, I think it was a 12x8". And your answer to that reply was "the song in the beginning of the video". I see that the same person asked about the song later, but that's not the comment I was replying to. Most people viewing this know what song it is because they found this via the other video I made about the song. Check the video responses for that one.
Levers look like a dick when u place it on a wall. click it, u turn it on. click it again and turns it off. You'll also notice how the lever moves when u click it. ;)
@ZachariasClub Digging the hole, you mean? That easily took a thousand times longer than collecting and setting up all the redstone! If I counted the hole as being part of this project, it would've been the most difficult part by far!
@ZachariasClub 32x32x75-ish. Every week while listening to the Giant Bomb podcast, which is 2+ hours long, I'd go dig in it for the entirity of the podcast and then some, and it took several months to reach the bottom.
@Roxfox yeah... I do about the same thing... I have a suggestion, though. If you break it up into smaller segments (like 10X10) you can get to the bottom quicker, and thus feel better about yourself as you expand to whatever size desired.
@ZaXy77 Sorry, I'm not going to do that. My save file's pretty huge (Windows claims 70MB) and has lots of fun things on it I'm not sure I want to share yet. I suppose I could start a new world, set up a new tutorial there and upload that, but that's a lot of work I don't really have time for right now. I have lots of unrelated videos to edit and render, an art commission to deal with, and I've already started a new music project in Minecraft that I want to finish before I do anything else...

Levers look like a dick when u place it on a wall. click it, u turn it on. click it again and turns it off. You'll also notice how the lever moves when u click it. ;)

Great instructions.
But I'm more amazed by the fact you dug all that out by hand

@N2tZ that's the easy part, the easiest.

@ZachariasClub Digging the hole, you mean? That easily took a thousand times longer than collecting and setting up all the redstone! If I counted the hole as being part of this project, it would've been the most difficult part by far!
Roxfox 1 year ago
@Roxfox hmmmm.... I must have way way way way more time than you to randomly dig holes... or your hole is much bigger than mine...
what are it's dimensions?
ZachariasClub 1 year ago
@ZachariasClub 32x32x75-ish. Every week while listening to the Giant Bomb podcast, which is 2+ hours long, I'd go dig in it for the entirity of the podcast and then some, and it took several months to reach the bottom.

@Roxfox yeah... I do about the same thing... I have a suggestion, though. If you break it up into smaller segments (like 10X10) you can get to the bottom quicker, and thus feel better about yourself as you expand to whatever size desired.
well done!

And I like to trust people.
Also, the cobblestone in the walls indicates filled in caves or ore veins.

Could you at least link the SHEET MUSIC or something? Much appreciated if you do.
mastermax7 1 year ago
@mastermax7 I can't even read sheet music! I'm sure you can google it. It's not exactly an unknown song.

I love your accent, and this is really informative. It makes the redstone thing much easier to understand.

Great! Really cool. But it would be even easier to learn if you uploaded your world. Would be AWESOME if you did! Thanks! :)

@Roxfox Ah, k. Nps. :) Thanks for the quick tutorial thing tho! And good luck with your next projects! :)
