  • Volvo drift FTW!!!

  • what about the mitsubishi evo? im pretty sure its just as good probably better than subarus awd

  • Look better

  • Most BS vie ever seen, they got paid to make subaru

  • BS

  • I have read of the XC90 AWD Haldex 2nd generation behaving in the manner portrayed in this video. When this happens you should turn the DSTC off (5 button pushes), and you'll get better results. But Volvo is already on Haldex 4th generation, and there is lots of evidence that the 3rd generation Haldex (2006) doesn't even behave this way, much less the 4th generation (2009).

  • Just read a post from a person who got to do a real life 'elk maneuver' in a Volvo xc90. Driving down the highway at 70MPH a van suddenly pulled over into his lane. He swerved very hard and suddenly found himself starting to go sideways. In a blink of the eye, he was suddenly 'righted' by the DSTC. He was very impressed, and thought the DSTC had, at the very least, saved him some severe bodily harm. I think the portrayal of Vovos going out of control around pylons in this video is very lame.

  • The youtube video "Volvo XC90 6 cylindres Sport" shows what a 4th generation Haldex AWD can do--with bad tires too.

  • @MirAndre if your car rode like crap and had rattles then you had problems. The 2004 Outback I just bought is quiet and smooth. The only difference in the capability of a Subaru and an Audi Quattro is the ride height and your choice of tire. The outback has more ground clearance than an Audi. You need to have a manual transmission if you want true 50/50 AWD though. The automatics are 60/40.

  • @MirAndre I sold my 97 Audi A4 Quattro before I bought my Subaru. It's not worth the pain. They are a fortune to fix and they have problems all the time. I'm not just talking out of my ass. I am a member of an Audi forum and people on there consistently talk about how many problems they have and how its weird if the check engine light isn't on. I would rather take a hit on comfort to have something that is easy and affordable to fix. The Subaru and Audi Quattro have the same AWD setup

  • looks like ken block drives the other cars in the handling courses

  • Mitsubishi #subarusucksdick

  • @energystar8711 Your unsupported assertions just made me literally laugh out loud. The only European AWD comparable to Subaru's is Audi's and even it can't compare with the system in the WRX STI.

  • @SoDaSub Laughing is good for everybody! You forget the Mercedes-Benz and the Range Rover in your answer

  • @energystar8711 Range Rover makes 4x4s. They are also no longer European. Mercedes 4matic is NOT as capable as Subaru's systems. It can't even re appropriate torque to any wheel with its 3 sensor 3 channel ABS system.

  • @SoDaSub AWD systems are changing and improving all the time. Volvo is now on Haldex 4th generation. So a video "proving" something about a 2nd or 3rd gen haldex AWD is now obsolete. Things change all the time--and what we "know" today may not be true tomorrow. I'm sure you would would take exception to the belief that Volvos are safer than Subarus. May have been true at one time, though.

  • @SoDaSub Range Rover makes AWD systems i believe. Look at the Range Rover sport. Who cares if they are european or not? That isn't the point.

  • @energystar8711 got owned. the 4motion junk in the VW is garbage. nothing can come close to the S-AWC found in the Evo/GTR or from Japanese cars in general. Maybe germans can just steal their technology like they steal everyone elses car designs over the last 100 years.

  • @thedenimvault Come on.Are you an amateur with cars? The fucking germans is the pionner of automobile history the last 40 years.

  • @energystar8711 they haven't done anything for autos since the invention of the internal combustion engine. pioneers...LOL! Japan wins EVERY TIME.

The LS 400 debuted at US$38,000 in the U.S. (in some markets, it was priced against mid-size six-cylinder Mercedes-Benz and BMW models) and was rated by Car and Driver magazine as better than both the US$63,000 Mercedes-Benz 420 SEL and the US$55,000 BMW 735i in terms of ride, handling, and performance.[34]

  • @energystar8711 you probably drive a broke ass golf. what can bmw make that can compete with the LFA, or GTR? NOTHING. what about audi? R8 can't touch the GTR. what about MB? SLS amg can't touch the LFA. Japan wins EVERY TIME.

  • @thedenimvault I am talking with a child?How old are you?

  • @energystar8711 good comeback. you must be 60 and haven't read an issue of C&D in over 20 years. welcome to 2012.

  • @thedenimvault I ask for you and you answered for me.I am 35 and i am reading car magazines from all the world as a hobby.I hate golf cars and i do not have german car.I had 2 japanesse car at the past and a ford ranger awd (europe edition similar as mazda B2500 or australian ford courier)English is not my language so stop jerking becouse i am a slow writer.

  • @SoDaSub evo can.

  • There's a video on youtube titled 'who needs an suv?', that shows how good a Volvo v70 awd is in deep snow. And I think this is an old VC AWD. There are other good Volvo videos with AWD featured, but this one is very good. Not trying to dis Subaru--they are excellent cars. Just setting the record straight on Volvos.

  • @outrigger777 Studded snow tires on flat, fresh powder. That's not indicative of an AWD system at all. A FWD car would have been fine.

  • @SoDaSub The situations shown in this video is all I would ever ask of my Volvo's AWD. Anything more for me is overkill. Day before yesterday my wife drove her 1998 v70xc through some unplowed deep WET snow with just all-weather tires. Many cars were in the ditch, especially on steep hills. It was about a one hour drive. My wife is not that great a driver but her v70xc AWD took care of her. Subaru is rightly proud of their AWD system, but for my purposes Volvos are plenty good.

  • @outrigger777 Haldex just might suit your needs. If it works for you and you like driving Volvos... enjoy.

  • @SoDaSub Thanks. My daughter wants a Subaru Outback. I'm not discouraging her.

  • @SoDaSub Also, this is one of many videos that makes the 'v70 v outback' video that's in Swedish look like a lie.

  • @outrigger777

From Autoblog when testing the current XC70 on a snowy hill:

"We also had little luck testing Volvo's hill descent control due to the fact that we couldn't get up the hill in the first place, and we're not talking Mt. Kilimanjaro, either folks. This was more like a bunny hill."

  • @SoDaSub She said it was so slick that you couldn't go fast, so that when you got to a steep hill you had no momentum--it was kind of a "dead weight lift". Her AWD did great, she said.

  • Never believe a video like this that has been made by the company itself. Independent and unbiased reviewers are always better.

  • if anyone sees a volvo winning in 4 wheel drive against SUBARU, please post a respond video...

  • Again, if not the same driver for each vehicle, it is not a true comparison.

  • @tigergreg8 In regards to the video, you are right; however, the video was made as a recap for the people that actually attended the event. Each driver (over 2,000) drove all of the vehicles themselves, back to back. They were accompanied by a professional driver that sat in the passenger seat and provided instruction. For them, it didn't matter that the video used footage from different drivers. They experienced the differences in vehicles themselves.

  • @99gsx4g63 audi invented awd...thats all

  • @MirAndre Porsche invented Four-Wheel drive....

  • @dualCranKy

Wrong.... If you want to be technical about Mr. Karl Benz had the first idea to make an AWD/4wd system (pre 1900). There were many prototype 4wd/AWD vehicles and a few even made especially for the Military but Subaru made the first AWD/4wd system for a passenger car many years before Audi did. Porsche didn't get an AWD model till even later

  • @SoDaSub Again, none of that means squat to me because I love my Subaru. I know that every car is different and you can't just assume because the media says its great that it really is. a lot of the people that say they love a car have never owned a nicer car. Different strokes for different folks. I would rather light a Honda on fire and laugh while it burns to the ground than own another one. I've owned 3 and all 3 broke down on me all the time. My KIA has 160,000 miles on it with no problems.

  • @blue06spectra i own 2 audis and 1 subaru and i cannot stand the subaru, it rattles and ride quality sucks, no where near as fun in the snow as audi. also loud and not as comfortable..subaru is a legacy and audis are a4 and s4

  • @SoDaSub yes but I don't really care about what the swedish like or don't like. I don't live there! I drive a 2006 KIA Spectra on a daily basis and I love it! my 2001 Subaru Outback is my snow/ice car. As I said before I love Subaru, but every car has its pros and cons. Subaru is not the best car all around.

  • @blue06spectra if not the best, then right there. Consumer Reports says that Honda and Subaru still make the best vehicles. Subaru is first in resale value, first in residual value, the only brand with all of it's vehicles as top safety picks, one of the best in reliability, one of the best in fun to drive, one of the best all weather vehicles, the only brand that grew every year during the recession (hitting sales records 2 of those years), and the most fuel efficient AWD lineup.

  • @SoDaSub Subara first in resale value?? Maybe where you live... Here you buy one and five years later its worth scratch... The only model that keeps it value a little bit is the impreza wrx

  • @Borgalizer Check out Kelley Blue Book (resale) and Automotive Lease Guide (residual). Subaru won very publicized awards for being number one from both rating agencies. Subaru just took best residual value for the 3rd year in a row.

  • @SoDaSub I notice that the expensive cars are at the end of that list. Again you are preaching to the choir. I already said I feel the Subaru is #1 when it comes to AWD but comfort takes a hit for performance. At least with the Volvo you have a luxury interior with lots of options and with a little extra throttle it will go through most things you will come in contact with in daily life. I vote Subaru because I deliver newspapers and work 365. I can't get stuck EVER!

  • @blue06spectra I didn't post the full list. This is Sweeden's 2011 Auto Index. Subaru > BMW > Toyota > Mercedes > Honda > Audi > Volvo > Skoda > Saab > Mazda | Mitsubishi > Volkswagen > Suzuki > Nissan > Opel > Citroen > Hyundai > Kia > Ford > Renault > Seat > Peugeot.

  • @SoDaSub Sweden

  • @SoDaSub that makes sense. Thanks for the info. I have no doubt Subaru has the best AWD setup out there but it annoys my when videos are setup to make the others look like crap. like the one where they have the Outback and the Volvo V70XC going up a muddy hill. Anyone who has driven a V70XC knows that the AWD doesn't kick in when cold. If he had hit half throttle and held it there it would have went right up the hill no problem.

  • @blue06spectra It's nice when your AWD just works with no strings attached. The funny thing about all of the Volvo defense going on is that for the 3rd year in a row, Subaru is #1 IN Sweden for the brand of car the Swedish are most satisfied with. The rank is Subaru > BMW > Toyota > Mercedes > Honda > Audi > Volvo > Skoda > Saab > Mada... and the rest are below middle line.

  • Climb*

  • This video is a lie! Another video shows that no car can clump with 4 wheels having no traction. Put a bug 4x4 truck with lockers and a head driven 50/50 transfer case on 4 sets of rollers and it will spin all 4 all day. He claims at one point all 4 wheels were searching for traction but the front right never moved.

  • @blue06spectra This video used a ramp that's not as steep as the ramps in the other video, the rollers also were not completely free spinning like what is used in the other vehicles. There was some traction to be found, but not much.

  • @SoDaSub meant to say *videos* not vehicles.

  • In so far as the pylon driving is concerned, there's a youtube video that shows an xc60 driving a lot faster than the cars in this video on a wet road, and doing a spectacular swerve around some pylons. Search /xc60 - test drive - elk test/ on youtube. Also have found some videos where xc90's were doing much much better than in this video, and it looked like the same pylon test. Couldn't find any for the xc70 though.

  • @outrigger777 Keep in mind these are not professional drivers. These would be the kind of driving results likely to be found in the general public.

  • @SoDaSub Yes, but in the xc60 test the maneuver starts at 100 kph on a wet road, with just a little braking before swerving. The xc90 tests were not done by professional drivers.

  • @outrigger777 without seeing the video, I don't know if the course was done with professional drivers, if TCS was on or off, ect. The vast majority of the drivers that attended this event were going through these exercises one at a time for the first time. They didn't know what to expect. Their reactions and that of the vehicles would be more in line with the average joe or soccer mom encountering a real life emergency.

  • @outrigger777 I jut saw a video with a race of AWD vehicles up a grassy hill. Not knowing anything about the vehicle, the XC60 struggled to get up the hill. It seems their are conditions and caveats with Volvo's implementation of Haldex that don't exist in some other AWD setups.

  • @SoDaSub Don't know about the xc60's AWD. What I've heard seems to make the xc60 the new automotive standard for safety. Included in this new safety standard is incredible high speed maneuverability.

  • @SoDaSub Won't deny Subaru's got the best road-car AWD--and a very good off-road capability. I just deny most Volvo AWD systems are as bad as portrayed by some. The two Volvos I own do well on steep snow covered roads in Colorado. I'm not an off-roader. The 2000-2002 VC AWD's are terrible, but I know how well my wife's 1998 v70xc performs. I do a fun check where I intentionally activate it at the start of every winter. This year, up my steep snowed covered driveway--it worked great.

  • @SoDaSub Have seen some Roo's stuck on youtube. Some of them were stuck in holes that an Abrams tank couldn't get out of, but some were where a reasonable person would have thought a Roo could have gotten out of. Of course it was always attributed to bad drivers or bad tires. Sounds familiar. I guess turn-about's fair play though.

  • The xc90 and the xc70 have essentially the same AWD sytem. Haldex II? The evidence in this video suggests the xc70 has the 2nd best system after the the Roo's. But my xc90 AWD doesn't behave like the xc90 in this video, but more like the xc70. I think it must be the driver in the xc90.

  • @outrigger777 The XC90 not being able to climb is a function of the weight and power being transferred. It's some 600 lbs heavier than the XC70. Heading up an incline, weight transfers to the back of the vehicle. The XC90 has adequate power to make it up the hill, but could not transfer enough of it to the rear to compensate for the weight. The XC70 struggled to make it up the hill everytime. It was a totally different feeling being behind the wheel of the XC70 versus the Outback.

  • @outrigger777 The Outback just climbed, the XC70 would stop and spin its wheels.

  • @SoDaSub Another video on youtube, that's in Swedish(?), touts the Subaru AWD over the xc70's. In that video the xc70 AWD performs very badly--rear wheel assistance is nonexistent, much like the xc90 in your video. Your video, however, shows the xc70 doing pretty well. It's the only car besides the Subarus to make it over the hill. Why did the xc70 perform so badly in that video, and acceptably-IMHO-in your video? Personal experience tells me the xc90 will do better than this also.

  • @outrigger777 That video is an old video from the 90's which depicts Volvo using an older, pre Haldex system. The results are real, but Volvo has long since changed its system. The Volvo in this video could not make it without stopping and spinning its wheels. The Outback and other Subarus just climbed without any drama. Keep in mind this was a compacted dirt hill. It would be even worse for the Volvo if water, ice, loose gravel, etc. were thrown in.

  • @SoDaSub Volvo pre-Haldex had two incarnations. 1997-2000 which had a VC with a very high pretensioning and a very responsive AWD. I know how my wife's 1998 v70xc responds in snow--it does very well. Volvo was afraid people would not be religious enough about rotating their tires on schedule, leading to a premature VC heat death, so they loosened the pretensioning on the VC from 2000-2002. I agree these model year Volvos had a terrible AWD system.

  • @SoDaSub My 2006 xc90 (2.5T) has Haldex 3 (Instant Traction). Does the xc90 on the hill test have Haldex 2? That could explain the difference between my xc90 and the one in your video. 2003-2005 xc90s had Haldex 2. Cars are changing all the time, and what we know about yesterday may not be true today. And what we know about today may not be true tomorrow. Even if what you show about some Volvo's have a grain of truth (not conceding though), the new xc60 has raised the reality bar.

  • @outrigger777 I do not know if XC90 was a 2005 or 200 model.

  • @outrigger777 Also, Haldex is not Volvo's system. It's made by an outside company that offers its system as an off the shelf system for manufacturers not wanting to spend the money to develop their own system. Volvo's are not engineered from the ground up as AWD vehicles like Subarus are. Haldex is used in the lesser Audi models, lesser VW models, Volvo, Ford's Taurus, Saabs, and some non RWD Buicks/Cadillacs.

  • Since when cars have been able to climb a ramp with 4 wheels on rollers? If no wheel has grip, it's impossible to climb, whatever the AWD system.

  • @Jehco14 At no point does the roller exercise show a Subaru climbing with all 4 rollers free spinning.

  • @SoDaSub Of course, as it could not occur, but if I'm not wrong, they say the opposite...

  • @Jehco14 I haven't watched this video in awhile. But I'm pretty sure that it doesn't depict or announce a Subaru will climb with all wheels not having traction.

  • Not trying to bash Subaru... but the video definitely is biased lol, even though the Volvo made the climb at the same pace as the Subaru, apparently it had to work harder..

  • @musicmanvin1 In +2,000 tests, the Volvo struggled, and if things weren't just right, it required a lot longer to make it up.

  • I've intentionally activated my AWD in my 2006 xc90 and in my 1998 v70xc on steep snowy Colorado mountain roads by stopping on the steepest part, then putting the pedal to the floor. A little slip of the front wheels, the rear wheels kick in, and up I go with excellent acceleration. The haldex II is not junk, neither is the 1998-1999 VC AWD's. The Subaru AWD is overkill for my purposes.

  • @outrigger777 From autoblog's review of the new XC70.

"We also had little luck testing Volvo's hill descent control due to the fact that we couldn't get up the hill in the first place, and we're not talking Mt. Kilimanjaro, either folks. This was more like a bunny hill."

  • @SoDaSub I won't deny the Subaru AWD is better than Volvo's, but there are a few videos of xc70's and xc90's with proper tires doing really well up steep snowy hills. If someone was trying to decide between a Roo and Volvo and they did a lot of offroading, I would recommend a Subaru. But for my purposes, the Haldex II and the old VC AWD are plenty good. They're not junk. Also, I've seen videos of xc90's and xc60's do the pylon maneuvers like in this video, and they did great.

  • Except for the Subaru outback vs the xc70 AWD that's on youtube in Swedish, this is the grossest piece of car propaganda I've ever seen. I've seen posts by 3 people who have owned both outbacks and xc70's, and they said the outback was uncomfortable to drive over 70mph. Not at all like the solid high speed rides of their xc70's. OK,the Subaru AWD is better, but I ain't going out if there's glare ice on the road in any car. The Volvo's AWD is more than adequate for snowy Colorado mountain roads.

  • @outrigger777

I have owned both a Volvo and a Suby and lived in Colorado for over a decade. The Suby is much better int eh snowy mountain roads than the Volvo. AS far as comfort the Volvo has the Luxury items, but when you get stuck in a storm in a mt pass, there is no comparison between the 2 cars.

  • @eleven22 Don't really disagree, but my old 1994 Volvo 850 FWD got me through some really bad snowy mountain roads--with studded snow tires of course. The snow was deep enough one time that we were "plowing" the road going uphill. There are a lot of Roo's in my area, but the serious offroaders use other-than-subaru vehicles. I'm wondering if the Subaru AWD system is too much for most steep snowy roads, but not enough for really serious offroading? The Roo AWD is better than Volvo's.

  • the Nissan Moron "oh"

  • lol 6:19 Subaru FTW

  • It's me again... Nissan Murano has automatic gearbox that is programmed not to transfer much power(momentum) at lower speeds regardless to its low performance at this high angle test where it must transfer lot of power on the wheels...

  • @lamazver The Murano has a CVT.

  • at the 4:30, tribeca ''professional'' driver cheated, because he let the car go off the rollers and get sratring speed over them rollers.. i'm not saying anything to subaru' awd system ut thats a cheat. and looks like passat hal sess time to find traction on those rollers. but bit respect goes to legacy it's great...

  • @lamazver The test was done over 2,000 times. The Tribeca was able to climb everytime.

  • ALWAYS PEOPLE ARGUE ABOUT QUATTRO you need the urquattro with his torsen diff and he will manage all the tests! The new audi cars have a different quattro system in it which acts different so it could happen that a quattro fails a test

  • 08:51 of course it won't...the driver of all other cars didn't even tried to keep this test fair. this is bullshit...

  • @90Ming90 2,000 tests and the volvo never made it. Many of the sales consultants sell more than one brand and many of them volvo. They also didn't realize they were being filmed or what for.

  • @SoDaSub wheres the mitsubishi outlander ?/

  • @boyishiyah This video was made before the current generation outlander. both the previous and current generation are bit players in the segment. The vehicles most commonly cross shopped against Subaru were included for testing.

  • this is BULLSHIT!

  • Comment removed

  • no fj cruiser? that car wouldve eaten that hill

  • @unnecessaryremarks Once again, this is AWD to AWD, not AWD to 4WD. The FJ is a 4x4. That being said, do you think it would have fared as well in the road course?

  • Cheaters!

    What about dodge???

  • @2424Goldie Dodge's AWD doesn't even deserve mention.

  • Comment removed

  • @knobudee The people that were there were able to draw their own conclusions. The video was just a recap for all of the driving exercises they were able to experience for themselves. It would have made ZERO since to give them a video contrary to their own findings. There was no cheating, the Volvos did not climb the rollers, and the wet driving issues were repeated over and over again.

  • Wheres the Audi and Mitsubishi? ... not really a fair test with out the king of AWD Quattro :D

  • @osvst Where is the WRX STI? Audi doesn't even make a system comparable to that of the WRX STI... not even in the R8.

  • @SoDaSub Dude Quattro was the first AWD system and is still in most cases the best and the R8 uses one of the most AWD systems for a car. The RS4 will out do WRX STI any day the 2.7 bi turbo is one mean mo-fo of a engine

  • @osvst Quattro was NOT the first AWD system by nearly 100 years. The system found in the R8 is NOT as sophisticated or as comprehensive as the system found in the WRX STI. The RS4 as a vehicle is not equitable to an STI as it's double the $ of an STI and has 120 more hp; however, the WRX STI still has a better AWD system. Road & Track posted an article a couple of years ago where the Legacy GT beat the S4 in the dry and wet.

  • @SoDaSub Quattro if u look in the history of AWD it was the first successful AWD system that didnt bind up of weigh 5 tones in a car. And Quattro uses both mechanical and electronics to control its AWD Subaru is all computer controlled and i said the RS4 no the S4 the RS4 had a 380 hp 2.7 biturbo. i think y there isnt a Audi in the Video is because it probley would have done everything the same as the Subarus and clearly this Video just wants to bash all the other AWD systems

  • @osvst Looking at history, Subaru started driving all 4 wheels in 1972 and introduced its Symmetrical AWD system in 1981, the year after Audi introduced Quattro. Only Subaru's Active AWD system is all computer controlled and that's only for select vehicles pre 2009 and for all after 2009. Subaru's VTD and Continuous AWD systems use mechanical and electronic systems. I was calling out the S4 with the Legacy GT.

  • @osvst The 2000-2001 RS4's AWD still is inferior to that of the STI and it's still almost twice the cost. I would expect a twin turbo V6 to have more power and be faster than a single turbo H4, but the STI still has a quicker 0-60 and similar quarter miles and outperforms an unmodified B5 RS4. The B5's fastest nurburgring time is 8:25 while the 2011 STI's is 7:55 (at the time the quickest sedan and eclipsing the previous best porsche panamera and Cadillac CTS-V).

  • @osvst There isn't an Audi because Subaru used the vehicles it competes with in the market place. If Subaru didn't even show or mention the WRX STI which is its best AWD system. This video is a recap for those that experienced the competitors AWD systems for themselves. They can draw their own conclusions.

  • @SoDaSub And if i recall the very very early Subarus used a Pro Drive modified Audi transmission and then Subaru modified hem from there and used there engines.

  • @osvst Where on earth did you hear/read that? It's 100% false.

  • @SoDaSub some of the early AWD Subaru's use the casings from Audi i seen one on a very old Subaru and it had 4 rings and a VW logo on it. the guy who was rebuilding it for a customer said it was funny cuz it was a German Transmission in a Japanese car and when he got all the parts for it they all said made in Germany. with the same two stamps on them

  • @osvst Come on man. You can't possibly think you can pass that off as truth. All of Subaru's Transmissions going back to the 3 speed transmissions were made in house or by JATCO. Your credibility just went out the window.

  • HAHAHA, what a laugh at this COMPARISON, completely biased. Did you see how the driver yanked on the volvo steering wheel on wet test and gently tugged on the subaru steering wheel. This is completely BS.

  • @nsnrider Did you read the disclaimer? This video wasn't meant to persuade anyone that hadn't experienced the driving events themselves. It was a recap for those people. The tests were performed over 2,000 times. It was never meant to be a public video.

  • I should also note that I did not see the disclaimer till after the comment was made.

  • Yes I did, I'm sorry. I'm on a mobile phone, I can't remove a comment.

  • The guy even tells you " theses are subaru salesmen not professional drivers" asses just one more company trying to pull the wool over our eyes. "look how well it works!! But don't look over here"

  • @agualotus Did you even read the disclaimer?

  • @agualotus

The people buying Subarus and its competitors are not professional drivers either.

  • He says volvo and wheels funny.

  • Honestly, I'm a subaru fan but this is biased. Looks hella fun though.

  • @SubieSean Look at the independently certified ones by going up to see all the videos SoDaSub has uploaded and choose the 2011 one. That is certified independent by the United states Auto club. Also you too @sonywiz92

  • This is a completely biased comparison. Stupid video

  • The reason of the Subarus having such precisive cornering is becauase of their boxer engines giveing them such a low center of gravity, the engineering of Subaru's cars is pretty awesome

  • Someone commented a while back about the lack of other competition. For years I have been looking for an Audi vs. Subaru side by side comparison. It seems that both companies avoid pitting them against each other. Personally, I'm just curious. I own an Audi, and have yet to lose traction. My neighbor and good friend, the same with his Subaru. Just wish I could find something!!

  • And I know my comments has nothing to do with this forum "AWD VS EVERYONE". but from my experience Volvos are great on snow, snow storms, slippery roads.etc. if subarus have better awd system. I'm not gonna fight 'cause of that. if you love your subaru, love what you drive. the old Volvos were amazing. a Volvo holds the guinness records of ""highest mileage car ever on the planet""" . the driver feels he is gonna die before the Volvo. is gonna hit 3 million miles, now has like 2.8 million M

  • @ThePurulentSickness I think you are holding onto something that Volvo doesn't represent anymore.

  • @Vanrocco Not only the name, but "VOLVO" . is a fu....g legendary brand. I know what is slow or what is fast,or fast as hell. I can tell you Even Volvo buses are powerful. not like the ones we see in america. Video::"""VOLVO B12RB"". they are too fast to be huge buses. turbo engines from hell. the double decker version is also fast, more in mid range acceleration. can you imagine this world without any VOLVO on the highways?. they may not be the fastest cars but. VOLVO 850 T5R, S60R? Autotech!!

  • @ThePurulentSickness Volvo cars and Volvo commercial trucks are two completely separate businesses. Volvo hasn't been Volvo since Ford bought it. Now under Chinese ownership, Volvo is a shadow of its former self. Again, what does this have to do with AWD?

  • @coyote. I wouldn't drive a car with an stupid name: subaru is like sushibaru, toshibaru, etc. who cares if works like a robot on slippery roads?? they have more accidents. Is not new to me. in the evening when you see a car going with only 1 headlight on,and the other like a pirate, thats for sure a subaru. always I see subarus with broken bumpers, broken smashed crashed doors and sides. subarus are in top of the cars with more collisions around the world. Volvo S60R IS FAST for smart people.

  • @ThePurulentSickness What on earth are you talking about? A) you're making stuff up. B) This has nothing to do with AWD.

  • @ThePurulentSickness

Whenever I see a car with only 1 headlight on it usually is a VW. Meanwhile my 13 year old Civic still has all the original bulbs.

  • @steevum yeah but at the end of the day your still driving a honda

  • @ThePurulentSickness You buy your cars based on the name of the car and whether or not other people have taken care of their cars??? You are a jack ass!

  • @ThePurulentSickness volvo isn't a strange name at all

  • This video talks more about psychology than it does about the cars. People who like German cars will drive them like they perform better even though they might not. I hate it when people take sides but in reality the lines are more blurred than that.

  • BTW, i live in the mountains of colorado...ive had a suburban, a blazer, an isuzu trooper, a mitsubishi eclipse awd, audi a6 quattro, and probably some other cars and trucks. The suburban was a beast, but none of them even stand a chance against the STi. The ability to control slides, the advanced braking, the light weight of the car and the phenomenal balance and engineering, make it such a fun snow car. Ive never come close to getting stuck. STi+Blizzaks for the win!

  • Subarus AWD system is amazing. I took my STi on a jeep road to 11000ft in telluride, people in their lifted Jeeps were looking at me like i was crazy. With the right tires, its unstoppable in the snow, ive plowed through 3 foot snowdrifts while jeeps, tahoes and x5s were rolled off the side of the road. Even on sheets of ice uphill, the car just goes up, all 4 tires spinning, sliding sideways uphill...its fun as hell. and it brakes amazing in the snow, turns awesome, and outaccelarates anything

  • @Soda who needs a car with supreme dynamic ultra sensitive intelligent traction control hyper variable torque distribution?? who is gonna drive??" the car" or "us"???. So why subarus are more involved in car accidents??' cause most of the people drive subarus??. noooh. in USA. you see more subarus in accidents on the snow, slippery roads, snow storms, etc. Volvos don't need hyper ultra dynamic torque distribution or bullcrap. and We Volvo drivers have good driving records even speeders from HELL

  • @ThePurulentSickness Please quantify your statements regarding accidents and driving records. Volvos have an inferior AWD system. That is the point being made and a point proven.

  • In the AUTOBAHN Volvos are one of the kings of the highway too. The Volvo S60 T5 manual in mid range acceleration is sick fast as hell. they can run to 160 mph easy. from my experience I have seen in Colorado Volvos S60T5 and subaru wrx STI fighting for "king of the highway supremacy". and from 40 mph to 100 or 140MPH. the Volvo was faster than the toshibaru. Soda go drive a 2005 to 2007 S60T5 manual, and you will see. they are faster than toshibarus wrx or sti in mid range acceleration.

  • @ThePurulentSickness Your comment has what to do with AWD?

  • You don't think that making a video for the sole purpose of devaluing other AWD drive systems is not inherently saying "we are the best"? The STI is in a league of it's own and should not be compared in this scenario. My fault for mentioning the EVO as it seems that is the only thing you payed attention to. But to restate my point...The descriptions says "core competition", A4 Quattro, Acura TL, and some Mercs fall in the same price range as the subi but they are not mentioned.

  • @Imaginarychild43 I think that Subaru is in business to sell cars and decided to give its salespeople some experience with competing products. Audis, Acuras, and Mercedes are NOT core competition. Audi doesn't even start with Quattro until $33,000. TL? over $39,000. At those prices, the answer to everything would be "STI." I don't even know why you throw Merdeces in there. You must be unfamiliar with their system.

  • @SoDaSub I concede to this treadmill of a debate but I do thank you for keeping it friendly and not personal. I do love Subaru's and believe that they have the "best" AWD system on the market regardless of price. I'm glad someone finally debates the issue at hand with hard facts instead of attacking the person commenting. Have a good one SoDaSub!

  • The description says "core" competition. Subaru claims the best AWD system yet didn't test other brands that claim the same...i.e. Audi Quattro, Mitsubishi (Evo), Acura SH-AWD, Mercedes 4matic. Strange to see such a biased comparison. Granted it is produced by Subaru for Subaru. Oh well.

  • Why did you choose to make up the "best" claim. Mercedes 4matic and Volvo's Haldex definitely don't deserve to be on the list of the best. All of the above, with the exception of the EVO don't even make systems comparable to that in the WRX STI. If Subaru were really going there, these videos would have been the STI vs. everything under the sun. It didn't even get a mention.

  • I own a Honda and it's not made to climb hills like so. The VSA is nice for light to moderate snow conditions but the center diff isn't going to transfer much power to the back on a steep, slippery grade like that. It's a front wheel drive based system just to assist in light low trac conditions. I like Subaru...But I get tired of these tests. You just gotta have the right tires and need to know how to drive and you can go anywhere.

  • @seanf125l These tests were performed over 2,000 times. The other cars could not make it up the rollers. The VW made it and it was shown to have made it. It's not a review, it's a recap for those that attended the event and drove for themselves. The xc70 driver was not a professional driver. To repeat, these exercises were done over 2,000 times. You can check my latest videos for independent tests.

  • @SoDaSub all im saying is that I could easily have done better then whoever drove the volvo. im not saying the subarus are not good, in fact, i am very impressed. I am just saying that from what i saw in these videos, i do not believe that xc70 in particular was used to its potential. again, i was not there and i cant say for sure, but that is my take. i would also like to see more real-world driving conditions. bring them to my town. sorry if I was rude at first, not my intention.

  • I find it funny how when Subaru wins something everyone gets pissed. Maybe they are actually good cars? Did you even ever think of that? Grow up.

  • I find it funny how when Subaru wins something everyone gets pissed. Maybe they are actually good cars? Did you even ever think of that. Grow up.

  • @SpencerS77 see, i was trying to be unbiased but i own 2 of the cars they reviewed (vw passat and volvo xc70) and I know for a fact they can do MORE than what was showed. I live in a town with heavy snow and ice where salt is not used and plows come out after the commute. I have driven both vehicles up steep hills on bad ice, have taken icy turns at higher speeds and they both handle them great... i know for a fact these drivers were not using those vehicles' full capabilities.

  • @seanf125l I understand. I love Subaru. But the XC and Passat are AMAZING off road. Their ESP and Dynamic Traction Control Systems work well and they are very capable. We owned a Passat 4Motion and it was like a tank. These videos are okay. And I own a Honda and it isn't the greatest in the snow. But I know for a fact the others are much more capable than they made them look here. I agree with you that they didn't take the vehicles to the full capability.

  • FAKE

  • @pieniokas Check my other videos for independently certified tests.

  • This is a stupid video with the ramp test the vw and Volvo would've made it but the driver didn't want them to so he kept braking every time it was going up the ramp! And the stability control was obviously turned off on the other models except for Subaru and the hill climb with the Volvo... It made it the same as the Subaru but yet they say it had to work extremely harder and the driver was too scared in the last two vehicles to climb the hill so he didn't make it tsk tsk... I hate biased vide

  • @Sodasubaru. What Car would win from a roll, mid range acceleration. from 40MPH to 120MPH.:: 2007 VOLVO S60 ""T5""( not 2.5t) OR 2007 WRX STI.???. remember also mid range acceleration makes you the king of the highway. any idea who would win?? and why?. Volvos S60 T5 in mid range acceleration are fast as hell. 'cause high pressure turbo, Front wheel drive, and of course is a Volvo. if your answer is wrx sti. I need proves. if you didn't know Volvos are fast as fuck in mid range acceleration.

  • CVTs are garbage.

  • @zznwea Volvo's system is very basic. It takes control away from the driver by cutting engine speed and applying the brakes. The same thing happened over and over during the +2,000 tests during this testing period.

  • i had a subaru and they dont last at all . the next time you see a subaru look under to the rear differencial is the size of a greape fruit my izusu rear diffef is the size of a watermelon

  • @ivan112116 Subaru is consistently ranked as one of the most reliable brands. Isuzu on the otherhand, is towards the bottom and is no longer even sold in the US. Subaru's differentials will be smaller as they are a unibody AWD vehicle and not a body on frame 4x4 like Isuzu.

  • @SoDaSub wait that kind of tires did each car and suv have?

  • @kamaster1011 Stock OEM tires.

  • @SoDaSub maybe they should of put the right tires on each car? idk but i think they should of.

  • @kamaster1011 What do you mean by "the right tires?" The tires on each car were the tires they come with from the factory.
