In the mass media of today, a lot of blacks are shown, incorrectly, as doctors. lawyers, engineers, scientists, leaders, and wise mentors - done in the name of extreme political correctness and inclusion. This cartoon takes the exact opposite point of view, showing them in a more traditional light. The reality is somewhere in the middle, but the cartoon's version is closer to the truth, like it or not.
As charming as the film is, its just awful that people viewed black people like that in a cartoon. If had seen this as a child, i would've thought that it was just one black woman singing with acutal monkeys.
Although it is painful to watch this through the prism of modern times, it makes us appreciate how very far we have come. We can look at this now and understand how ludicrous these stereotypes were, when at the time they were made, it barely raised an eyebrow. I know some people would like to destroy things like this, but I think it helps to remind us of the terrible way people used to treat each other, and perhaps might prevent such things in the future.

Although it is painful to watch this through the prism of modern times, it makes us appreciate how very far we have come. We can look at this now and understand how ludicrous these stereotypes were, when at the time they were made, it barely raised an eyebrow. I know some people would like to destroy things like this, but I think it helps to remind us of the terrible way people used to treat each other, and perhaps might prevent such things in the future.
