......history, Guy Gibson (from the Dambusters) trained here on tiger moths. during ww1 pilots trained using the Bristol F2b fighters which were known as the sunbeam arabs due to the different powerplant to that of front line fighters and the shortage of engines. No.2 radio training school flew dominies and proctors from here. just to the north less than a mile was the relief landing ground of RAF Townsend which was litterally just a field!!!
i'm suprised that there's still quite a few buildings there i've been there loads of times and only got as far as the main guard room. and i only live down the road from there. the view from the A4 is quite restricted but you can see the ww1 hangars and the accomodation blocks from there.
the flight line buildings are hidden behind the trees and the only remaining feature of the east site is the gymnasium the rest has been retuned to farmland, however microlight flights operate there.
@sgtgrech thanks for this, my Dad was here 1943 radio training did 7 opps after d day i would have loved to have run this by him but he wouldn't have talked about it anyway he didnt talk about the war much. i will visit this place sometime thanks again

@westmids11 Thanks for your kind comment my friend. Yatesbury is a very atmospheric place, although it was only a Training Command airfield it certainly has a presence. Unfortunately, the present owner who was sympathetically restoring the buildings has run out of money & left the site, it now looks like a building site & the worrying thing is who will buy it & what will they do with it?
Awesome, hope this place gets the future it deserves.

Hi Petr, I guess that's what happens when buildings are left for many years at the mercy of the English weather
