Only when you play to audiences are you actually a DJ.

I listen to a few of the originals; They're very good. However, I listened to a few of them as "remixed" (More like wrecked) by DJ Rankin. It hurt my ears. It was so terrible, I couldn't even bear listening to the others I wanted to check. "Rankin's" songs are horrible travesties of what used to be musical.
To be brutally honest, if they used a computer, it would make no difference. That is, IF they actually remixed the songs. I was originally posting, arguing against RankinTruth, and emailing back and forth.
With a computer, changing the song to the point where it's an actual remix, and publishing it under a new name, listed as a (Song Name: Remix), it might pass. But as is? Not so much.
It's the way publishing is gone about that raises the most eyebrows, I should think.

While I think that it's possible to be a DJ with only a computer, the current users aren't actually working to the extent one must if they are remixing a song. Computers are capable of doing so, but aren't being used to do so properly, in the case of Rankin, Cammy, and others.

Dude, i totally agree with you. DJ Rankin just makes the Dance theme look vile as well as giving all the 'real' DJs bad names. Also may i add why are all these guys who've downloaded one of his songs from limewire or bearshare, defend him so distinctively - It's seriously demoralizing... what has the world of music come too. I hate it too when these guys class themselves as "Harcore" and "Techno" producers when all they do it speed a song up and add Eminem in the background.

Rankin needs to change his entire outlook on what he's doing. Pitch bending and mixing are fine in clubs but don't do it to a song, change the title, put that stupid "In DA MIX" stuff in the middle then LImewire it....

You need to work out whether youre viewing him as a DJ or producer. Changing the pitch of a ready made song has nothing to do with remixing, and making songs has nothing to do with DJing. He is a thief, that's the point.

Thats a bad comparison. DJs are not musicians. They do not create. They just play other peoples music. Musicians who use computers create. When you use a virtual DJ program you are simulating DJing. I play Need For Speed Underground but I cant claim to be a sports car driver.... Likewise paying about with virtual DJ software doesnt MAKE you a DJ. Only when you play to audiences are you actually a DJ.

No I have no idea, but seeing as every single one of his DJ bookings was made off the back of his fake songs, I'd say a fair amount. Liam you have no idea. Dance music IS made on computers, sound by sound, note by note. DJing is ALWAYS just gonna be playing records. Rankins 'songs' are 'made' in sequencers, not DJ software.

I listen to a few of the originals; They're very good. However, I listened to a few of them as "remixed" (More like wrecked) by DJ Rankin. It hurt my ears. It was so terrible, I couldn't even bear listening to the others I wanted to check. "Rankin's" songs are horrible travesties of what used to be musical.

To be brutally honest, if they used a computer, it would make no difference. That is, IF they actually remixed the songs. I was originally posting, arguing against RankinTruth, and emailing back and forth.
With a computer, changing the song to the point where it's an actual remix, and publishing it under a new name, listed as a (Song Name: Remix), it might pass. But as is? Not so much.
It's the way publishing is gone about that raises the most eyebrows, I should think.

I could either pursue a side of an argument which is wrong, or I could change my tune. I could argue until I was blue, but these DJs aren't fulfilling the minimum of requirements to be a proper DJ.
While I think that it's possible to be a DJ with only a computer, the current users aren't actually working to the extent one must if they are remixing a song. Computers are capable of doing so, but aren't being used to do so properly, in the case of Rankin, Cammy, and others.
