  • i watched this at W W W . TV-Vide . NET . Try it 5 minutes and than fill a free survey to watch 24hours

  • danggg....hes running barefoot. how on earth are his feet like not bloody stumps??

  • why couldnt they play ethiopian music in stead of random west african beats?

  • @habesha619

And what was the go with the didgeridoo at the very start?

  • the greatest runner

  • I'm coached by the Barry Magee who came 3rd in the 1960 Olympic Marathon!

  • Pure proof that we are meant to run barefoot

for those who want inspiration look to the raramuri (running man) who run huge distances barefoot or close enough (huge distances being around 300 miles).

for those who argue his ethnicity, lets be honest who cares? the man was great, he was better than great, there are few who can compare.

  • Bikila = Badass

  • Entering the olympic stadium first at the end of the marathon must be the best feeling in the world.

  • you cant hide the truth people. abebe was oromo. so no need to make my comment a poor one. lol

  • thats how oromos do it baby!!

  • No shoes !?!? That's freaking awesome!

  • The narrarator made mistake! He was the first African to win gold not the first East African! they need to fix it.

  • No, the narrator has it right. There have been some Africans from Algeria (competing for France) who have won the Olympic marathons (in 1928 and 1956).

  • For France. We are talking about those that represented African Nation here.

  • No, the narrator means the first EAST AFRICAN athlete, regardless of what country that athlete represents, to win a gold medal. The athletes I spoke of (Mimoun and El Ouafi) were African who only represented France because France was occupying Algeria at the time.

  • Don't get me wrong. Bekile, more than anybody, began the long string/ tradition of African dominance of international distance running.

  • I never thought of it before, but surely Kenenisa Bekele is related to Abebe?

    they really look alike :)

  • A hero lives and gains succses, but a true legend never dies!!!!!

  • It´s very hard to this kind of super hero

to know ( in 1969 as far as I know ) you

will never run again or even walk. It´s nearly

unbeliaveble that Bikila won in Rome the marathon barefoot. Normally a man can´t walk

at stony aspahlt too many metres

  • Best athlete this world has ever seen.

  • A true champion!!!RIP!!!

  • Years ago, I taught in a school which named its sports houses after great athletes. One of them was Bikila House. Sadly almost none of the students knew anything about Bikila's achievements and the odds he faced. And of course, none saw the great irony of him winning the marathon gold in a country which just fifteen years before occupied his own. RIP.

  • truly one of the best, rip

  • CAN PHELPS TOP THAT!!! I don't think so. The swimming competition has mores opportunities to win so I don't think people should jump the gun and say Phelps is the best. This is just my opinion before someone replies and I am entitled to my opinion.

  • Before we crown Phelps the all-time "superman" of athletes, consider the case of one Jim Thorpe: 1) ran the 100-yard dash in 10.0 sec 2) ran the 220 yard dash in 21.8 sec 3) ran the 440 yard dash in 51.8 sec 4) ran the 880 yard race in 1:57 5) ran the mile in 4:35 6) ran the 120-yard hurdles in 15 secs 7) long jumped 23ft 6in 8) high jumped 6ft 5in 9) pole vaulted 11 feet 10) threw the shot put 47 ft 9in 11) threw the javelin 163 ft 12) threw the discus 136 ft Any questions?........
  • phelps suck so Jim! all time superman is Ali!!!!

  • Boxin: Mohammed Ali'

    Soccer: Pele'

    Swimming: Pelp.

    Athletic: Abebe Bikila

  • In Soccer is Zidane

  • Damn, 26 miles with no shoes on.

That is the pinnacle of tough.

  • What a shame he is dead i think he has achieved more than PHELPS

  • Abebe passed away, he didn't die.

  • u r the one i cant say anymore abbay rest in peace

  • For Ethiopians, every Olympics brings back the memories of Abebe Bikila.

  • the man is very good i like him but he had an accindent so he have to sit in a wheelchair

i had read his book it is very nice

  • amazing performance! just read Barefoot Runner by Paul Rambali...great book! What an inspiration!

  • the Ethiopian lion,we will naver forgot his pride,R.I.P Abebe Bikila

  • With not much clarity I remember few things growing up in Addis Ababa however I remember the day Abebe Bikila and the whole Ethiopian team arrived home from the Olympics in Rome as clear as if it happened yesterday. What a day, what a crowd, what a man. Sad to say the day he was buried is also engrained in my memory.

  • Abebe you and Mammo were the most representetive athlets of that time. You were and are amoung Ethiopian prides! Rest in Peace and with God!

  • Look the grace of this legend. Ethiopia forever. Abe, rest in peace.

  • He won in 2 times!!!! In the 1960 Rome Olympics and the 1964 Tokyo Olympics. What an awesome runner he was...RIP Abebe Bikila...We love ya.

  • it doesnt matter if he is oromo or not. he ran representing ethiopia as an ethiopian.

  • this man has an idol..u are fantastic bikila!!

  • an hero, an idol !

    a legend.

  • Yes, the footage is just awful. I'm a barefoot runner too, and I'd love to see a better video that shows some clear footage of how Bikila ran.

  • Watch for a show called "Bud Greenspan's Favorite Olympic Stories," or something like that. There's a great segment on Abebe.

  • I remember seeing that in the late 70's... Great Show. Abebe is a true Legend!

  • Bud Greenspan's Favorite Stories of Olympic Glory, that was the name of it. Bikila was so awesome.

  • Why would they not have ETHIOPIAN music in the background?

the music sound african or brazil IT IS NOT ETHIOPIAN MUSIC

  • Oh yeah cause Ethiopia is like in antarctica right? Dude think before you leap!

  • okay shadow, the guy above you is Ethiopian and is well aware of WHERE Ethiopia is. I think your missing the point of what he's saying. i thought the same thing when i first saw the vid. they're playing some random stereotypical 'african' music that is NOTHING like ethiopian music when abebe was running quite clearly and enthusiastically for his country:Ethiopia. Yes, he's African. But Africa is a biiiiig place man, you can't just play some random African music to rep the entire continent.

  • maybe but I just thought it was a stupid comment at the time is all

  • type '10000m atenas' and you will see the best last lap ever on youtube

  • Footage is very poor. Whoever post this should search for a better one.

  • Moron roberak, Get civilized. Abebe has nothing to do with being Oromo. Abebe is adored by all kind of people, by the whole world for that matter. We don't need any label. He is a magnificent individual who brough fame for our country and his people. Extra ordinary you Abe. We Ethiopian always have been and will always be proud of you. You have been a true inspiration for generations after you. Love, Love, Love you Abe!!!!!!

  • wtf do u mean by he has nothin 2 do with oromo. His ethnicity is oromo u dumb ass shit.

  • the guy meant, YES he's oromo, no one is denying that. But he didn't go out there to rep Oromo's. Read the jersey friend... he's running for ETHIOPIA. no offense to you, if you don't feel like he's Ethiopian cuz he's oromo, thats fine. but he chose to run wearing the Ethio jersey again and again and represent Ethiopia repeatedly. He obviously considered HIMSELF Ethiopian.

  • Truely, he is a hero! We are proud of you

  • He is Oromiyan. Abebe Bikila has never been Ethiopian. He is an oromo, which has nothing to do with being Ethiopian.

  • fuck you roberak your ass belongs to Ethiopia. TPLF! forever.

  • Abebe is ethiopian but you are from Ruwanda don't you know your history? Dummy as usual!!

  • th best is bikila

  • My man my hero,I Love you forever man.

  • he showed the road to africans.respect

  • a true legend=)

  • TRUE HERO

  • What's with the stereotypical African chanting music in the background? Ethiopian music doesn't sound anything like that. It's like playing Russian music for an English runner.

  • so true ... so true :-)

  • So Proud of you, Abbe'
