@vincentjacque That was a Chinese poem, written by Mao Zedong, who was the founder of People's Republic of China. Ryuichi was interested in communism in his school era, between late 60's and early 70's. In some aspects, Mao was his hero and influenced Ryuichi. That must be one of the reasons why he used this poem in his first solo.
This song (and album) got me through 5 years of adolescent turmoil and confusion. I have been a rabid fan of Sakamoto ever since. And that guitar solo!!! It's like 'proto-metal'! At least 3 years before Eddie Van Halen shredded his way through 'Beat It'. Anyone know the name of the guitarist? Is it the same man who played with Sakamoto in YMO? Thanks a million for posting this! I hadn't heard it for over 20 years!
This is competely unreal. I thoguht I knew a lot about retro music, but after having listened to Japanese artists and then owned a Korg for years I still don't know about this episode in which the two came together. Un-fucking-real.
Does anybody else resonate really strongly to this chordset? Especially the voice part in the beginning? Something about the key he's playing in sounds really powerful and haunting.
Although I love the upbeat version for the BGM album, I still think this original 1978 version is the best one. While the BGM version has an awesome (and innovative) drum & bass line, this original version feels a lot more soothing and soulful.
watch his eyes. he have a long hair like a ROCK-artist untill this picture.

One of my favourite songs. Sakamoto and YMO played this one in many variations, but I still am intrigued by his first version from 1978.
32 Years old and it still sounds fresh and extraordinary. A true classic.
