This is too slow, that it totally ruins the rhythm of this wonderful piece! It should be played slow, but it has not only beautiful harmony and this is too slow and also out of tempo. Virgil Fox had not bad ideas, but he made it out of bound of mind. Also the Tutti-version is after a while too aggressive and disturbing, that I cant concentrate on the music.

Damn, my computer doesn't seem to want to post... if you're reading this I guess it worked! Anyway that's cool, and good timing. I got my AS results back today, and unfortunately, I wound up as 8th alternate for violins, which makes no sense... even our bass, who was a finalist in a NATIONAL competition as a FRESHMAN just got into Commonwealth this year.
I've played this song twice now, once for Kentucky All-State (it was great!). Apparently this song was for the Lutheran church, where "Come Sweet Death" is not morbid, but is actually a great thing.
@tylersimms100 Nice! I just got back the All-State results for this year today, and for some reason I'm 8th alternate for violin... makes no sense. Even our bass, disputably the best in the state, only made it to commonwealth.

Does anyone know if there a Busoni transcription? I have his for the d-minor Chaconne. Busonni must've had huge hands because I cannot stretch some of the chords.
@gan0nsl4y3r - I have Virgil Fox's version of this piece on my site and someone asked about sheet music for it. AT THE ORGAN WITH VIRGIL FOX. Published by Alfred Publishing Co. ISBN O-7692-4192-1
@marcellny it's the only piece I know I can't play but not because it's too hard but because it's so moving I am just unable to finish it. In fact most Bach works are too hard for me but this one is absolutely unique and beautiful!
Just before a friend died of Cancer he told me that he was slowly moving into a beautiful white light. A voice told him twice to go back and he said he had come back to suffering. But he went into that light shortly after and is now at peace. The second verse of this piece depicts; On entering the kingdom of God.
Beautiful and what a sound. Virgil would have approved!
@silverstartrucker your friend went to a type of hell/paradise, he accepted death by choosing not to live. this is where people go when they die, a false paradise that's only partially good but infinitely painful because it does not join us together completely, only ever partially, he chose not to live for others just because it was painful so where do you think he went? I've seen many lights, and I went there but those places just assume that you won't love everybody equally/perfectly and I do.
I know...I know I've let you down...I've been a fool to myself...I thought that I could live for no one else...

This is entirely too slow. There is no sense of rhythm or meter.

What‘s the connection with Komm Süsser Tod in EVA?????
YunkoLaputa 8 months ago
@YunkoLaputa Nothing much, the title just means "Come, Sweet Death", and the EVA version is about someone preparing to commit suicide.
