I did not expect this song to be nominated for the Oscar. There were other good songs from other films like The Living Proof from The Help any other song from The Muppets. And I'm glad Hello Hello from Gnomeo and Juliet did not make make it no offense to Elton John. And Lay Your Head Down from Albert Nobbs would have been eligible too. Also Rio is not nominated for best Animated Feature Film. It's likely Rango would win. And Play this song for the 2016 Summer Olympics In Rio!

Man or a Muppet feels sounds rushed like something out of Brett Mckenzie's Flight of the Concords or The Mighty Boosh but has better lyrics by a bit. Wil.i.am's appearance is the only downside of this song but its only like 4 or 5 seconds but very energizing and complex. My opinion is on this song for the oscar.
@jbaj19 each song has an important meaning to it (for the record, i've seen neither movie), but it seems as though the theme of Real in Rio is the pleasure of the company around you as well as the pleasure of your surroundings. Man or Muppet involves distinguishing the difference and establishing separation between who you want to be and who you're supposed to be. Man or Muppet is deeper and more mellow, but i think it will be a close race. ultimately, i think Real in Rio won't win.

I have seen 'Rio', it was a fun but forgettable children's movie, but even if I hasn't that would make no difference. It's obvious this song will not win a Oscar. I mean, it's a good song but in my opnion, there are better songs in this movie. The music "Fly Love (Ararinha)" is way better than "real in rio". As a brasilian i say the americans don't like samba, but they are receptive to bossa nova. So a Bossa nova song is the only music that can compete with the muppets song. It's a game of marked cards.

That's a samba song like we can appreciate in a samba school parade in Rio. I was there once and can tell u I never have seen something more builtiful and energetic!!! For who like inovative songs I recomend listen more from Carlinhos Brown who is one of the authors of Real In Rio.

Up unto that point, the energy of the song was such that I could forgive it for the countless times I had to sit through the Orange ads every time I went to the cinema for the three or four months surrounding the Rio release date. I have seen 'Rio', it was a fun but forgettable children's movie, but even if I hasn't that would make no difference. We're discussing the sonh here, not the film, and It's not like the song needs to be given any context or anything. It's ridiculously simplistic lyric-wise and could've been cooked up in about 10 minutes. I love real samba and to say this is some award-worthy song is just ridiculous.

Why are people going on about Will.I.am, this song is by Carlinhos Brown and Sergio Mendes, and the english lyrics are by Siedah Garret. Hopefully Brown will peform at the awards, as well as complete samba band, that would be awesome.

It's obvious this song will not win a Oscar. I mean, it's a good song but in my opnion, there are better songs in this movie. The music "Fly Love (Ararinha)" is way better than "real in rio". As a brasilian i say the americans don't like samba, but they are receptive to bossa nova. So a Bossa nova song is the only music that can compete with the muppets song. It's a game of marked cards.
Rio has a incredible soundtrack, but this choice was not fair.

Ora vejam só, um filme homenageando uma cultura que não a americana e por ironia uma de suas músicas concorre ao Oscar de Melhor Canção Original junto com outra de um filme valorizando tudo que há de mais fútil na cultura americana.

That's a samba song like we can appreciate in a samba school parade in Rio. I was there once and can tell u I never have seen something more builtiful and energetic!!! For who like inovative songs I recomend listen more from Carlinhos Brown who is one of the authors of Real In Rio.

Five Points:
1. "Man or Muppet" was kind of lazy as a song.
2. will.i.am is talented, whether or not you like his music. That's like saying we should only listen to classical music, and everything else - especially mainstream music - is total trash.
3. The people who got "snubbed" in the nominations probably like this song, the movie, and will.i.am.
4. The song was great for the movie. It opened it in the best way possible.
5. Mostly animated films get chosen in this category.

1. Not every great song is dynamic. A simple one can be good.
2. When you have two equally talented artists (will.i.am and Bret McKenzie) then its pointless to consider personal talent, and rather concentrate on the context of the song.
3. The people who got "snubbed" in the nominations also probably like Man or Muppet, its movie, and McKenzie.
4. It perfectly reflected the absurdness of the scene.
5. Of the 77 winning songs, only 15% are from animated films.

3.10 - that's the point they definitely lost any chance on the Oscar. Up unto that point, the energy of the song was such that I could forgive it for the countless times I had to sit through the Orange ads every time I went to the cinema for the three or four months surrounding the Rio release date. But trust William (I'm not spelling his name like he does. It's stupid) to spoil it.
Plus, it's the Muppets. How much chance were they going to have?
