mig15 fan, This the owner of the walrus in the video. Yes it is a bit fast but am getting used to it. handling is somewhat tricky at low speeds. Also needed the power for water takeoffs.
Hi, plane looks great, its surprising a tricky low speed handling for bulky a bipe isn´t it. May be I should consider someother subject because easy handling was one of my goals, the other was to have something to fly in the lakes around here,THXS!
Lading on water however takes a little more finesse and speed control. to slow it plops into the water and to fast it skips back into the air and if only one outrigger pontoon touches it screws to that side as it is "jumping" out of the water.
mig15fan, The reason it is tricky is the scale location of the Engine. Changes in RPM's equate to an exaggerated banking movement rather than a yaw like most airplanes exhibit. It is not a hard airplane to fly at all and it does rather well at take offs from water.
Hello Stefan, Your English is fine. I am trying to get hold of the owner of the Walrus for exact weight and measurements. The wingspan is over 2 meters and it weighs more than 6.5 kilograms. When I get the real figures, I will post them.
My previous estimates were off a little. This is from MrRCLem (the owner).
"WS - 76.5" = 194.3 cm
Length - 62.5" = 158.7 cm
Weight - Not sure of exact weight but I think it is between 19 and 22 pounds or 8.6kg and 10kg
I am using a Saito 150 four stroke with a Master Airscrew three bladed 16X10 pusher prop
It is set up for retracts but I have not purchased them yet. I looked at his Walrus in the bare bones state and it looks great. I see he is going electric."
Im refurbishing one of these at the moment, lost interest for a wee bit till i saw this video, now working hard on cleaning it up. Looks great to fly.....well done.
My grandmother remembers these landing in a river during the war

I hope these were good memories for your grandmother. It is amazing how many real aircraft are duplicated in RC models.

most tricky part for my walrus project is engine location!

Hallo Bob,
thank you very much für the datails.
My Supermarine Walrus is little bit smaler, only 188 cm.
I will use an electric engine with at 10S lipo-batterie and a 4-blade 16" variable-pitch propeller vom Ramoser.
I think, better I hope, that my Walrus will weight not more than 7,5 kg without landinggear.
In the first step only for water take off and landing.
In the second step I want to design a retractable landing gear.
