That scene is a spoof on a movie Dylan did actually make called "Renaldo and Clara". He did actually visit a crucifix with Allen Ginsberg in 1975 in Lowell, MA, while they were in town for a concert and to see Kerouac's grave. The '65 Dylan being portrayed here is pretty inaccurate.
