There is a minority of people within the Pandit communtiy who are not Kashmiris in origin. About 200 yrs ago, there were some Bengalis/Biharis who moved into Kashmir and might have inter-married with the poorer Pandits...Hence, quite a few no longer look kashmiri. The same holds true for their Muslim counterparts, as there were some Muslims from Bihar/U.P. who migrated to Kashmir and inter-married with Muslims. Anyway, a true Kashmiri is one who speaks in koshur language and follows the culture

- We KPs are a mix of ancient Rig-Vedic Aryans, with some Jewish blood and some poorer ones who have also have mixed with Dravidians from India (The reason was that we never ever intermarried with Muslims and never accepted back those who had converted into islam). Hindu Kashmir was very aggressive (Rajatanigini). In fact the Chaks who were originally Hindus (Lankar Chak, Pandu Chak, Shanker Chac, etc) who later became Shias defeated Akbar. I am most grateful to Kashmiri Muslims for what they did to KPs. A majority of Kashmiri Pundits are doing well in various parts of India, much better than they would have done in Kashmir where they faced constant subjugation.

There is a minority of people within the Pandit communtiy who are not Kashmiris in origin. About 200 yrs ago, there were some Bengalis/Biharis who moved into Kashmir and might have inter-married with the poorer Pandits...Hence, quite a few no longer look kashmiri. The same holds true for their Muslim counterparts, as there were some Muslims from Bihar/U.P. who migrated to Kashmir and inter-married with Muslims. Anyway, a true Kashmiri is one who speaks in koshur language and follows the culture

Surely Sahana Butt you have not done homework on Kashmir. Most of us today have descended from Kashmiris who were Hindus and belonged to the noble Aryan race. In my opinion the views of Sheikh Showkat do not reflect the views of most Muslims of the Valley. He seems to have some resentment for the Pandits. Our roots mainly are same thus there are bonds which can never be broken. When your numbers are so small even the bravest of the brave avoids battle. Kashmiriyat has survived and will flourish. Peace in Kashmir is done. Minor upheavals will have no consequence on the peace process. The Kashmiris (be they be Hindus or Muslims) mostly are from a single origin, the Aryans. Aryans did not enter Kashmir (Kashmir itself is Central Asia) but were indigenous. When the turmoil occurred in the Valley it was surely the responsibility of the majority community to protect our Brahmin brothers. We did fail if not totally. All the Brahmins who believe in genuine Kashmiriyat must now start to return.
