Hello Chris, what picks are you using? I like your playing and sound, we can see you are talented eventhough you practiced a lot and this technic is a huge part of your sound. Nevertheless I think that you should sometimes think more in a story/melodic way and you'll get the best out of you, just my opinion.
Hello Chris, I am really impressed by your talent (I know some hours helped to get there) and I want to thank you for your free lessons!!! What mediator are you using? I also wanted to say that maybe if you think more of a melodical/story way instead of technical I think you will get the best out of you...nothing personnal and i am a lot worst than you so just my opinion if you wanna take it.
@chrisbrooksmusic Sure I noticed the "teaching" here lol...after seeing your songs, I wanted to share this (I had the same comment and I had to "rethink" my way of doing music and it did help me to push further): I had a feeling sometime, that maybe it comes from realesing a song that you are not 100000% satisfied with? (maybe I am wrong) But I can feel your composing shape instead of "the song", so focusing more about an emotion and/or a story to tell and then apply your skills?
@roccckkerrr No, I was seriously into alternate picking from the beginning but after I had an injury in my picking arm I worked on legato and liked it so much I kept doing it.
omg jack-off, like the shit u play can't b compared to this... dude, ur shit sounds like its of an old amiga game called marble madness... get ova ur self , hard on... :/
@thegreatgarry Exactly! It can have a great WTF? factor when used in rock, although it's very cool with in fusion context too with the right harmony underneath.
Been playing with this for a couple of hours this morning.. think I've got it down :)
Are the other lessons going to focus on just the licks you play throughout the song, Or the rhythm parts too? One of the things I've always loved about this song are the riffs, really cool rhythmic accompaniment
You know the weird thing is, I didn't hear ANY while doing it, nor afterwards. But fear not, future lessons will not be filmed in the garage but in my new music room, and with a mic for the talking. I've got it covered!
Cool lesson man, just a suggestion... it might better to mention the fret numbers rather than the notes. I know there are lots of players who don't know the notes of the neck so well that they don't have to think about it.
I had considered it, but to get the licks down in the song, I think it's pretty crucial to already have a grasp on the notes of the guitar, otherwise it's not music, it's just shape playing. Plus, it takes longet to explain every note if I have to give strings and fret numbers. But thanks for the feedback - I'll take it onboard!

Chris, Great lesson. This was really informative. Very well explained. What did you use for your drums track on "Kryptica"?

@EricMaldonadoMusic Hey Eric! I programmed the beats with my fingers in Cubase and generated the tones with a Yamaha soundcard.

thx for the lesson....
Finally, I know that whole tone can be used in other musical genre...it's not about jazz/fusion only...

Plus I think the repetitive symmetry of this lick will make it pretty easy for shape favoring folk to get down quickly.
