  • Harmonies divine!

  • Here is the little door, lift up the latch, oh lift...! We need not wander more, but enter with our gifts; Our gift of finest gold. Gold that was never bought or sold; Myrrh to be strewn about his bed; Incense in clouds about His head; All for the child that stirs not in His sleep, But holy slumber hold with ass and sheep.

  • Bend low about His bed, For each He has a gift; See How His eyes awake,... Lift up the latch, Oh lift...! For gold he gives a keen-edged sword, Defend with it thy little Lord, For incense, smoke of battle red, Myhrr for the honored happy dead, Gifts for his children, terrible and sweet, But Oh, such tiny hands, And Oh, such tiny feet.
  • This binds my heart to Heaven. Such pure perfection.

  • I felt God come in the room & sit next to me to listen to this. This is so beautiful & pure it makes me cry tears from my heart. Thanks for this lovely posting. This is Heavens music.

  • Hermoso!!!

  • @HoquetusVishudda

I love this song. I need find de score. Somebody can help me?

  • @HoquetusVishudda Try Sheet Music Plus website (USA). I just ordered copies for a quartet I'm in at my church, hoping to sing it for the Epiphany. Also hoping that the arrangement is similar. If you are wondering how it sounds with a small group, check out the performance by tenetnyc1 on You Tube, a small group which does a nice job with it.

  • @PaoloFrancesco99

    Thank YOu!!!!!

  • do you have un nino llorando or verbum caro factum est from the same album? I'd love to hear them.

  • I could listen to this performance all night. Herbert Howells was at his best when composing these delicate miniatures...and of course, nobody performs it like Chanticleer.

  • Lovely

  • One minor correction to a post below: The words were written not by G.K. Chesterton, but by Francis Chesterton -- and dedicated to G.K.

  • my choir group just did this for highschool . we weren't bad , but of course this blows us out the water .

  • continuing

Lift up the latch, o lift!

For gold he gives a keen-edged sword,

Defend with it thy little lord,

For inscence, smoke of battle red

Myhrr for the honoured happy dead

Gifts for his children, terrible and sweet

    But o, such tiny hands,

    And o, such tiny feet!

    GKChesterton

  • Appreciated! Painful poetry.

  • thank you for posting the words!

  • I can't really understand the words, other than "here is the little door." What is the song about? Thank you, it is beautiful.

  • The song is from the point of the view of the three wise men and their gifts to Jesus. Beautiful words, beautiful music, and what a lovely rendition. Chanticleer is peerless.

  • Music by the late English composer Herbert Howells. Superb carol; best performance.

  • One of my favorite pieces to sing with the vocal group I'm in...but these guys do it best! Oh...and this is the entire piece (it's one piece from a group of three, I think)

  • @beaglemusic : Yeah the other two are "A Spotless Rose" and "Sing Lullaby". All incredible!

  • can you post the rest of the album??
